Weakened Box Office: Nov. 21-23, 2014

MOCKINGJAY PART I Hardly Hungers for Business, Opens 2 Gigantic B.O.

With one of the largest opening grosses of 2014, HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART I didn't disappoint in its first round. Runners up DUMB & DUMBER TO, BIG HERO 6 and INTERSTELLAR all ended up looking puny in comparison. Even with PENGUINS OF MADASASCAR opening Wednesday, HUNGER could remain #1 for Thanksgiving weekend as well. For full B.O. MoJo Weekend Chart, CLICK HERE.

Oscar Winning Special FX Highlight 1953 Version of WAR OF THE WORLDS

Truer to H.G. Wells' novel than most any other screen version, George Pal's Oscar-winning 1953 take on WAR OF THE WORLDS is many people's idea of the definitive filmization of the classic tale of Mars' invasion of Earth. Featuring wholesale destruction of cities by death rays, some of the best-looking aliens ever made and a surprisingly low-key conclusion, WORLDS airs both Tuesday night on Movies-TV.

Audiences Turn to DUMBER Fare as Sequel Tops the Box Office Chart

The 20-years-later sequel DUMB AND DUMBER TO eked out a victory to top strong hold-overs BIG HERO 6 and INTERSTELLAR, both of which each fell off about 40%. While the DUMBER number wasn't huge, it was still more impressive than many were expecting. Meanwhile, Ocar hopeful GONE GIRL surpassed $150 million. For full B.O. MoJo Weekend Chart, CLICK HERE.
