Babel is the most overrated movie of the year. I was hoping that The
Departed or The Queen would win that category. At least Marty won best director. |

Nothing there particularly unexpected. This is going to be a year in which Best Picture honors are going to be gathered by entirely forgetable and largely ignored films, while the most interesting battle is shaping up in the animated film category: Cars vs. Happy Feet.

With Cars having about a 75% edge as I estimate...luckily, because it is the more deserving one (and it would be a nice consolation for them not giving Tony Shalhoub another for Adrian Monk for the TV section). Truthfully I can say that I know practically NONE of these films apart from The Departed (so I know if he's nominated, how close is Jack to the Oscar record, or does he even hold the record?), and that's clearly not going to help their desperately sagging-like-your-mother-in-law's....well,-you-know-what-I'm -talking-about-ratings. On the plus side, seeing Eddie Murphy win's a relief to know his other-than-the-Donkey career isn't dead (although if the 2 planned remaining Shrek films fail, we might see Eddie kick his ass, which may have been Chris Farley's ass had fate not intervened, and walk away, while kicking his own...well, you know where I'm going with this). It shows there's still a glimmer of hope for the SNL/SCTV generation who aren't already dead to return to their former glory if they'll just stop wasting time and energy on false family films that Eddie himself looked shackled to until now. |
