Time to finish off Saw week.
 
The good:
 
Hoffman dies at the end: This really made me happy! If this didn't happen, then I would have given this a C-.
 
The bad:
 
Kevin Greutert: Greutert's good direction from the last one doesn't carryover here. Considering the dickering that LionsGate pulled-off with him, maybe it's his form of revenge.
 
The script: Unlike the past Saw scripts which seemed empty, this one seemed too full. There may be a reason for this though. Apparantly, there was supposed to be eight Saw movies in total, but Saw VI's flopping caused them to merge the two sequels into one.
 
Sean Patrick Flannery: Boondocks Saints star Flannery is flat here as Bobby Dagen, a guy who lied about surviving a Jigsaw trap. His performance is unusually stiff.
 
The ugly:
 
Costas Mandylor: On TVTropes, there's a trope called Villain Sue. A Villain Sue is a villain who seems unstoppable and appears to be loved by the writer(s). No term describes Hoffman better. He kills an entire police force with ease. Thankfully, Gordon pwns him at the end!
 
From what it seems, Paranormal Activity may become the new Saw. The difference? The Paranormal Activity movie, including the third one (B), get good reviews! Grade: C.

I don't think it would go to the Bond series at all. It would more likely go to a horror movie series, probably for the first movie that "Nuked The Fridge" and every movie that came after it. Not all movies in a series are bad. No, I'm saying EVERY studio wants a James Bond series, ie. a series of movies made over the course of many decades that will always make them money because every generation will grow up with the movies, and the studio will just reinvent the series every once and a while if the series gets stale. Yeah, because there's never been a Worst Movie Series category ... probably because all movie series are now on-going for decades to come. Yes, I'll agree that "Saw" tried to be serious where as other franchises became self-parody. However, that doesn't change the fact that the series dragged on WAY too long, to the point everyone stopped caring and the news of a new installment was greeted with moans of "another one?!". True the Saw franchise has had seven films released for the last seven years. However I believe as a fan of the franchise that Saw has taken itself seriously which most horror franchises fail to do. Look at Halloween it would make the sequels change the current story arc. Also Jaws started with two great films and finished with two dumb films. Nightmare on Elm Streets Freddy got turn from a dream killer into a parody of the Joker. Childs Play turned into a laughing stock of its former self. This may have not been the best Saw film created, but you have to admit the people who made the franchise took it seriously. The films had one story arc connecting them all and never once did it dismiss a sequel from its presence. I watched the first and second Saw movies.  That's it.  I liked them both, but I have not gotten into any of the further Saw films.  
 
BTW, are you aware that none of the Saw movies, from 3 to 7/3-D, have been screened for critics in advance?
