Author: moviecritic1994
Subject: An inconvenient truth Ep 1: Friday the 13th (1980
Posted: May 23 2013 at 5:00pm

I have been a long time fan of the Razzie Awards. So much so, I love to look back on previous nominees and "Winners" whether it be last year or the very 1st Razzie Awards. Of course, the first film to ever be given the dishonor of Worst Picture was "Can't Stop the Music". I haven't seen the film and quite frankly I don't want to .

However, when looking through the other nominees for the first Razzie awards, I did see a movie that I do love and own on DVD. That film is the first and original "Friday the 13th" (1980). It got nominated not only for Worst Picture but nominated for Worst Supporting Actress (Betsy Palmer). At first, I tried to rationalize it and mainly forget it was even nominated (it was 33 years ago after all). But at the same time, the fan in me was still a little shocked. Looking back at it now, I feel stupid for even not looking at the many mistakes in the first "Friday the 13th". So... here goes nothing.

I recently re watched the first film, and I noticed that the acting was SO LAME. Granted, for a lot of these kids back then it was their first film but I must mention we never really see them in other projects after the movie. In fact, the only person to get a film career after this movie was Kevin Bacon.

Another flaw... the film is supposed to be 95 minutes long but it does feel like a full 2 hour movie. Why? After the first two kills at the beginning of the film, it takes a REALLY LONG TIME for something to happen. Yes, we do have to introduce the characters and have the story develop but it doesn't take what it feels like.. 30 minutes. Even when we get to the next kill, we have to wait another 20 minutes for the movie to actually start getting good.

Finally, a flaw that came to me by actually watching the "Behind the Scenes" feature on the DVD of the film. I believe one of the Producers or screen writers of the film talked about the idea behind the "Friday the 13th" movie. Well he and his buddy had just seen "Halloween" and said since it was making a lot of movie they should "Rip it off". What a stupid thing to say! I knew the movie was a rip off of Halloween but why in the world would a guy who made the film even admit that to other people? I lost my respect for the film a little bit because of that statement.

So, I will close this topic with this thought. I still love Friday the 13th Part 1 and Part 2 (the series kind of goes down hill from there). However, I do see why the film got nominated for Worst Picture. So leave your thoughts down below. DO you think I am over thinking this? Do you like the 1st Friday the 13th movie too? Comment and leave feedback

Since the first film, they pretty much repeated the same formula in the 2nd Hangover film (don't know about the 3rd). But from #3's 23% rating on RT (and the horrible reviews it's getting in other places) it seems to be another repeat of the first and second films, just in a different setting and with a different tone. Instead of a comedy, Hangover 3 seems like an action/thriller. Do the writers and studio executives really think they can fool us just by changing the place and tone of a film and we won't know it's just the same S**t happening over and over again??
