I just saw THE BEAVER.

Jodie Foster is berry good,and Mel Gibson is Oscar worthy.But the movie never really talks about his depression.It tries to be ambiguous but in reality they just didn't know what they were talking about.Anton Yelchin's storylines were meant to be fillers but they ended up feeling like a whole different movie.

I give it 4/10.

"Media outlets rehash old news which SHOULD have stayedprivate in the first place--anything to trash Mel eh? And now they also want todrag Jodie down because she, a person that has known him for YEARS, fullysupports him and says he's a fine person.

 Amazingly they onlyreport the bad parts of Mel's story! What about reporting ALL of the story?

How about history on Oksana and Officer Mee for instance,how she has used every man in her path and told countless lies her whole life('skill' learned from her mother) and how Officer Mee laid in wait, tipped offby someone inside the restaurant, how he was such a  bad officer he failed miserably on hisperformance marks for YEARS, how he could not manage to follow departmentpolicy, how his co-workers claim HE is the one that used the term 'sugar ti..'well you know.

 And how about Mel'shistory: how his lead attorney is Jewish and a woman, his best friends arewomen (Jodie and his sister) how his one and only agent ever was Jewish AND gayand how much Mel loved the guy, how so many people have come and spoken up forhim it is amazing--yet the media doesn't carry those stories does it. Hm. Spinmuch?

 Will they keep onasking this question again and again until they receive the answer they so obviously want?  Why such a deceptive game filled withloathing and hate for two of Hollyweird's FINEST?

Whatever their game is, the people who know Gibson and thefans who have followed his career, aren't totally buying it yet.  They are having a go at his fan-base, will thepeople who know him be next?"

I for one don't even understand why there is such hatred towards the Jewish faith to begin with. This faith makes up a very small portion of the world population. Various forms of Catholism and Islam are the top two religions, followed by atheism, with all three ranking in the hundreds of millions. Judaism, on the other hand, isn't even among the top five religions, it's numbers are only in the hundred thousands. There are more Buddists and Hindus in the world than Jews. So it's not like Judism is some kind of threat to any other faith. And the Jews really haven't caused great injustices to society, like Catholics and Muslims have (in the name of their faiths) over the centuries.

Here's the deal:

It's not bad to be an atheist.A lot of times other religions try convincing them.That's wrong because people are entitled to choose,and if you're adults then you know what you're doing however.However,that's not the real issue.They try convincing them because,nowadays,most people become atheist not because they're more scientific,but because they're angry.My grandpa is a Holocaust survivor and he doesn't believe in God mainly* because he "can't" believe in someone who would let that happen.

I'm a christian,but not very religious.I never go to church or pray.But I'm still bugged when someone choose to not believe for reasons like that.I'm not concerned that people will go to Hell for not believing(that's fanatism),I'm concerned that people will live with resentment.

GTA,you cheated.You made a SOUTH PARK reference without saying the episode.LOL Anyway,I strongly believed in that.Yeah,I liked THE PASSION,but I also believe that's a great movie for atheists.If people believe in Jesus and love him,they should watch one of those Easter specials.That movie is better for non-believers because it shows the suffering of a person,regardless if he was the messiah.

It wasn't a snuff film,because it used FX rather than real corpses and blood.But if you meant to ask if it was an explotation film...that doesn't depend on how graphic the movie is,but on the reasons and purposes to be that graphic.Take Larry Clark:KIDS wasn't explotation,but KEN PARK was.

Yeah! And what of Mel Gibson focusing on how Jesus got killed in The Passion of the Christ? I believe that it's not how Jesus Christ died that made him a hero, it is how he lived. (Correct me if I'm thinking of the armed forces!) Focusing on how he got killed was what cost people their well-being in the dark ages.
 
Does anyone here, by any chance, think The Passion was a snuff film?
 
By the way, I'm also secular, so I'll be irked if anyone here thinks I'm inferior, a bad person, etc. just because I don't follow a religion. However, I will admit I definitely don't have the "Christian value" of starting a "traditional" or "mom, pop, and the kids" style family.

Nothing against you, Patsi45, but your posts just made me cringe...  

I don't want to start another of discussion about religion (because the last time it directed so much hatred towards me...). I do however want to ask the following questions: Why can't atheists (like me) be good people? What does "god" have to do with common decency? Is someone a bad person if he/she doesn't have "Christian values"? 

Judgment of a (probably fictional) higher being is one thing, choosing to be kind and respectful to others is something completely different (and doesn't have anything to do with religion)...

Update: Oh yeah... I am apparently 6 posts from 500... I am thinking of saving that one for something special....

No one is in a position to cast stones since "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

I haven't seen Passion of the Christ but it was my understanding that the movie is based on  the gospels and if Mel remained true to scripture, the movie would have to indicate that the Jews of the day took part in Jesus' death because they considered His claim that He was their promised Messiah blasphemous and according to Jewish law, that was an offense worthy of death.  The movie also should have shown the Gentiles involvement in His crucification since the Jews didn't have the authority to impose a death sentence.

Ultimately, if the movie is based  on the biblical account of Jesus' crucification, then it would have to emphasize  that Jesus'death was an essential part of God's plan for our salvation.  Jesus said  that no one takes his life from him, but he laid it down of his own accord. "I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."  John 10:18

And strike THREE, he threatened his girlfriend. Now, I don't know where everyone stands on domestic violence, but for me, NO woman deserves to be shouted at like that, I don't care what she said or did to get him that mad at her. 

It's like when people said Rihanna probably deserved to be beaten up like she was by Chris Brown. Rihanna had bruises the size of devil's horns, I don't care what she did or said in that car that night, no woman deserves that. 

So for me, when it comes to Mel, that's three strikes, he's out for good...end of that.

I'm just saying, I highly doubt that anyone would pay to see a movie starring a a convited murderer or rapist in it. Granted, Gibson isn't either of those, but his public image is in the toilet and that's my whole point. Stars need to be well liked by the public if they want their careers to continue, but Gibson isn't well liked.

They won't rush to the theaters. But if BEAVER flops anyway, it will be for the many reasons a good movie can still flop: limited release, bad marketing, people choosing the blockbuster instead, etc. 

This theory applies mostly when the controversial celebrity isn't an actor. That's why Roman Polanski's movies are still doing well: he's off-screen...unless you count his small role in RUSH HOUR 3.

Let's face it, people, even though every movie from the 1980s is being remade these days, it ain't the 1980s, and slowly but surely, every star from that era is going to fade away. This movie continued to perform sluggishly at the box-office. It opened in 68 more theaters this weekend, including 1 here in Denver, but the per screen average was only $1120. Assuming the conservative estimate of 2 showings per screen daily, that means only about 50 people are attending each time it is shown. I suspect that a lot of people are still having trouble finding any place to see it, but even in reasonably large sized markets like Denver, the response appears to be underwhelming.
 
Just as a point of comparison, Pirates of the Caribbean made more money the first 9 times it was shown on any 1 screen in any 1 theater than Beaver has made in all the theaters it has played in put together over the course of 3 weeks.

I might add on to your rebuttals: If anyone were out to get celebrities of conservative Christianity or otherwise the Religious Reich, they would've torn Alex Kendrick apart. Instead, only we know his name. We added a forum for Fireproof as the worst new movie of 9-26-2008, and I expect Courageous to be one of 2 worst new movies for 9-23-2011.
