Well... As many people know, inspiration comes when you're not looking for it. When you're asked to write something, you can't force the inspiration. So what I do is that I ask myself "What genre do I wanna write? Fiction or non-fiction? Comedy or drama?". And then "What sub-genre do I wanna write?". And then I write down issues I've experienced, but only the ones I know the solutions to. If these are solutions that you ask people about and they say "Yes, that could work", but they never thought of them until you mentioned it to them, then it's better. This way, you have a message for your story. That's a good way to start.

If you want to listen to famous writers, you can use take the issue and build fantastic/surreal/bizarre elements around it, in order to convey the message through metaphors and allegories. Philip K. Dick and Dr. Seuss are good examples of this.

If you don't want a story with any kind of message, then skip the last couple of steps. But the first steps can still help you.

My tips to cure writer's block (which I invented) are specifically for writing fiction, so I can't help you there.

You just have to wait until you watch a movie and then comment. That's what we all do here.

UPDATE: As much as I hate Breaking Dawn part 2, the worst reviewed film of 2012 is "A Thousand Words" with a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. I haven't seen the film, but a big hint of how bad it is: I didn't laugh once at the trailer. As you guys might've noticed, it's been a few days since I really posted anything about any movie good or bad. From time to time, I have a bad case of Writer's block. It's not necessarily about nothing to write about but more like I have no real motivation. Does anyone know how to get out of this dry spell?? I just re-watched PULP FICTION, and gave it a 9/10.

The guys who were interviewed in ROOM 237 (the documentary about theories on THE SHINING) are nothing compared to the people who analyze this movie. Just because bad things happen whenever VINCENT goes to the bathroom, doesn't mean there's something behind it! As for what's in MARCELLUS' briefcase, it can't be his soul because PUMPKIN/RINGO doesn't even know him. And if it were the ear that was cut off in RESERVOIR DOGS, his reaction would've been a lot different. On the other hand, the diamonds from that movie sounds more plausibe. Thoughts?

Is it just me, or does it seem like these days, Friedberg and Seltzer are all bark and no bite? They now say they're making a Fast & Furious spoof -- but they were also supposed to make that Avatar spoof, which just vanished...and that Hunger Games spoof, which is, as far as I know, completed, but does not have a release date. I've also heard they're trying to make spoofs of things like Hangover, Bridesmaids, and Project X!
