Well, they did do How The Grinch Stole Christmas live, a box office hit, but recieved mixed to poorly by critics. However, when Horton Hears A Who came out, it was what all Dr. Seuss films should be, animated, NOT in a live version. They did do an excellent job on makeup on The Grinch...

but a poor screenplay and turning it into live action was NOT a good idea at all. Sorry if anyone gets scared with the picture posted above. I'm sure it might give some people nightmares.

I can understand why the HeadRAZZ didn't think The Love Guru was going to be as bad as it was.  The trailer had many of the funny moments, and Mike Myers hasn't outright choked since Cat in the Hat.  It's amazing that he worked ten years on this script and came up with what he did.

I'll just add that I agree with the HeadRAZZ that this wasn't the worst movie of the year.  It was definitely one of the worst movies, but it had a handful of genuinely funny scenes and schticks.  However, considering the expectations people had after Myers' Austin Powers and Shrek movies, this may have been not only one of the many bad movies this year, but quite probably the most disappointing movie of the year.  So, I suggest viewing this one as the Razzie membership connecting with the audience; we really didn't want Mike Myers to choke on this one.  We really wanted him to succeed.  And he failed.  Miserably.

I mean, when the climax of your movie is two elephants copulating during a hockey game, you've got problems. 

Most of the truly awful movies of last year that are worse than The Love Guru are ones that audiences smartly stayed away from, such as Strange Wilderness, Witless Protection, Postal, Disaster Movie, The Hottie & the Nottie, Beer for My Horses, 88 Minutes, In the Name of the King, etc.  One of the movies that is worse than The Love Guru that audiences may have seen would be Meet the Spartans, one lame joke after another lame joke after another lame joke.  I watched this one along with 300 on HBO with the same friend who went with me to see The Love Guru.  She loved The Love Guru (yes, I am friends with a fan of that movie), but she found Meet the Spartans to be completely stupid. 

But put your Razzies hats on for a minute.  How many of those movies have unintentionally funny scenes?  How many of those movies are fun to watch just for the pure pleasure of mocking them?  During the Razzie preview night, we had a lot of fun with In the Name of the King.  I could see us having fun mocking The Love Guru.  The Seltzer/Friedberg films just don't rate; it's hard to mock something that's just plain stupid.  The same goes for Larry the Cable Guy.  The Razzie crowd couldn't stand five minutes of Postal, and I'm guessing the same would be even more true for Strange Wilderness.  We probably would have had fun with 88 Minutes mocking Al Pacino's hair, or The Hottie & the Nottie.  Beer for My Horses, based on its trailer, has got to be primed for bad movie lovers.

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: In fact, for 2008 Worst Actor is as overcrowded as any category has ever been -- In addition to Meyers and Murphy, we also have Hayden Christensen, Dane Cook, Vin Diesel, Will Ferrell, Larry the Cable Guy, Al Pacino, Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Mark Wahlberg and (in the form of a Last Minute RAZZIE Christmas gift) Tom Cruise in VALKYRIE. 

Talk about an embarrassment of RAZZIE riches! 

This Rajan Zed guy just won't quit.

"America's Hindu leaders are asking Mike Myers to personally apologise for his portrayal of a comical spiritual leader in movie flop The Love Guru.

They want the funnyman to publicly apologise for "lampooning Hinduism" in the film.

In a statement released to WENN on Monday, Hindu leader Rajan Zed said that although the apology may not completely undo the damage done to the community, it might help "heal the wounds somewhat of a disturbed Hindu populace".

Zed, the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, says, "Ksama, or forgiveness, is one of the main virtues of Hindu ethics. If Mike Myers offers a genuine public apology, Hindus would not only absolve him but might also pray for his success in future movies."

Zed launched a protest movement against The Love Guru in March, urging all Hindus and other religious groups to boycott the film.

He claims that the failure of the film is largely down to his protest campaign."

I think somewhere in Myer's home is a dartboard with this Zed guy's face on it. Oh and if that wasn't enough, Myers is currently writing "Austin Powers 4".

Rajan Zed appears to be a self-promoter.  He's claiming to represent Hinduism, when, according to the USA Today article I linked earlier in this thread, the Hindus are divided over this film.  From what I found on him, he's just a Hindu chaplain living in the quake zone formerly known as Reno, NV.  As for The Love Guru's box office failure, the reason is obvious--the movie was terrible, and it's easy to make fun of.  It's pure Razzie fodder. 

If you attribute The Love Guru being a bomb to Zed's holy outrage, you might as well attribute the Reno earthquakes to Zed, too.  It makes just about as much sense. . . .

Hindu leaders have claimed victory in their campaign against Mike Myers' new film The Love Guru after the movie failed to wow cinema audiences across America.

Religious leaders have spoken out about the movie - calling it "morally offensive" to Hinduism - and urged followers of the religion to boycott the picture.

The Love Guru debuted at number four at the U.S. box office on its June release - taking just $14 million (GBP7 million) in its opening weekend.

The film has taken a gross total of just $31 million (GBP15.5 million) in U.S. the five weeks since its 20 June release. Anne Hathaway's spy comedy Get Smart was released the same weekend and has so far taken a gross total of $124 million (GBP62 million) for the same period in America.

Leading U.S. Hindu scholar Rajan Zed is convinced the organised boycott has contributed to the movie's box office slump.

He tells WENN, "The boycott call of Hindus against Hollywood movie The Love Guru for lampooning Hinduism has been very effective, contributing to its blunt failure at the box office.

"Although various issues contributed to its failure, the boycott was one of the major factors. Many Hindus as well as non-Hindus have been shunning this movie in the USA and Canada."

Wow, this Rajan Zed is really full of himself if he thinks his boycott single-handed caused the movie to fail.

And if he thinks a tone deaf mediacrat like Redstone's going to do anything of the sort, he'll need to consult a higher authority on how to proceed, although I agree true Hinduists should make a statement on it. 

There's no Wikipedia page for Bhavna Shinde.  A Google search shows she is from the Spiritual Science Research Foundation.

A video and a booklet promoting Hinduism?  I can't recall even evangelicals ever demanding anything that extreme!

Leading U.S. Hindu scholar Rajan Zed challenged the comedy's star Mike Myers and producers over the film, claiming the movie was "morally offensive".

But his requests for them to screen the film for Hindu leaders before its release last month were ignored, prompting Zed to urge anyone who held religion dear to boycott the movie, about a comical guru, played by Myers.

The film has since been a flop at the box office, and Zed has threatened another negative media campaign against the film and its producers when the DVD is released later this year - unless executives agree to help promote Hinduism.

In a letter to Viacom founder Sumner Redstone and Paramount chairman Brad Grey, Zed and another leading Hindu, Bhavna Shinde, write, "To undo some of the damage done to the community by Paramount Pictures and Viacom through this movie, Paramount Pictures should produce a brief video about Hinduism and its tenets, and enclose it with The Love Guru DVD.

"They should also, in consultation with Hindu leader Rajan Zed, publish a small booklet about Hinduism and its tenets and attach a disclaimer at the beginning of The Love Guru DVD to counter the gross misrepresentations in the film."

But we know better -- Paramount is not going to do this.

With Postal and The Love Guru, that TMZ vidclip would make 3 bad movies I've seen Verne Troyer in this year. . . .

Speaking of Verne Troyer and Postal, I remembered seeing a picture of Gary Coleman, who appeared in and promoted the videogame Postal 2, posing with four armed chicks in promos for the film Postal.  Yet, when the movie comes out, I see Verne Troyer instead.  So, suspecting a switch, I checked things out on the web, and, despite previous announcements, sure enough, when it came time to film Postal, Coleman's agent told Boll he was not available.  I guess Coleman didn't want to be [ahem] attacked [ahem] by a thousand monkeys. . . 

I would say Coleman was smart, but, if the following webpages are to be believed, he married in February this year and divorced in April on Divorce Court. 

This movie has elephant sex (reminiscent of Razzie sweeper Freddy Got Fingered) -- a sign of total bankrupt desperation. Love Guru must sweep the Razzies like Freddy did!
