Time to rip into Alvin And The Chipmunks 2*.
 
The good:
 
David Cross, again: Cross, again, is the only bright spot in these piles of munk-guano.
 
The bad:
 
Jason Lee, again: Lee is slumming again. His first scene is very embarresing, but at least he's barely in here this time.
 
The voice acting, again: The same problems that I mentioned in the first one are present here. Even worse, we're introduced to the Chipettes, who are voiced by ACTUAL famous people (Amy Poehler, Christina Applegate, and Anna Faris) unlike the Chipmunks, who got mildly famous people. The waste is even worse.
 
The school storyline: The bullies are very flat and boring and as for the female admirers, I'll get to their problem in the ugly.
 
The ugly:
 
The CGI, again: The CGI for the Chipmunks is still terrible, but the CGI for the Chipettes are worse! Especially, the CGI for the Chipette called Eleanor. She looks like King Ceaser from Godzilla V.S. Mechagodzilla! And she's just as useless!
 
The script, again: The same cliches are back again, but with some new, crappy twists. There's a lot of pointless scenes. (i.e. the dog knocking over the TV) The film takes the Jurassic Park II approach to debating: the nicer of the two is automatically right. (i.e. There's a scene where David Cross bitches to the principal about her giving preforable treatment to the Chipmunks) And worst of all...
 
Bestiality!: Yes, there's a reference to bestiality in a PG-rated movie. In one scene, Alvin hits on a girl and she acts flattered!! What the f*ck?!?!?!? Who thought that was a good idea?
 
Again, this made a lot of money. It probably would have made more if it didn't come out at the same time of Avatar. And there's a third one coming out, that gonna make even more money! Dammit! Grade: D
 
Next-up: Yogi Bear!

They just had to push their luck.The first one was decent,but this was bad.The plot was all over the place.It literally felt like a first draft of the script.It was as pointless as it gets.

The first one was funny because the jokes were aimed at the whole family rather than just kids.But this time it was all lame slapstick and 0 of SIMON's sarcams.And it wasn't afraid to be dark with it's themes,but this time they're so afraid everything screams "G-Rated!".And it was also cute.This one assumed we'd sympathize with this characters.Speaking of,every new character(including THE CHIPETTES)felt pointless.

With all those covers,you may compare this to a GLEE episode.It actually was because it felt episodic.They just can't wait to make it a saga.

A much better climax would've been SIMON & THEODORE singing alone,specially after the whole movie references the fact that ALVIN gets all the stardom.

I give this 4/10.

As a child, I never saw any merit in the Alvin & The Chipmunks show either when it aired in syndication. I wonder why the first A&tC movie missed the '007 RAZZIES. As for this sequel, I'd say Worst Screenplay. I don't understand the appeal in the original show or especially the recent Chipmunk movies. It's likely we won't get any reviews for this movie until this weekend.  There are a number of advance screenings on Saturday.  Critics are likely to show up at those locations.  The previous installment garnered a 27% RT rating, a Metascore of 39, and a consensus that says, "Though cutely rendered, Alvin and the Chipmunks suffers from bland potty humor and a rehashed kids' formula."  Somehow, it avoided Razzie nominations.  If this one gets worse reception, then it probably will get nominated.

Here's what the supposed appeal of Bridgette (which I assume is her name, as I'm not going to look it up. That was her name in the fully animated Chipmunk movie back in the day) appears to be... She's got the "rebel" thing going on... But it's a look clearly stolen directly from
the Pink Ladies in Grease. This puts the "rebel" at about 40 years old, which in turn is based upon something about 60 years old. My point being that this wehole thing is inCREDIBLY dated...and yet I doubt the film-makers care.

The question is whether children these days are going to be smart enough to notice, or whether they're going to eat whatever crap is spoon-fed to them. Seeing as how their parents do it (especially with the moronic Gen-X successes of movies like GI Joe, Trannies, etc.) I think we're looking at the latter.

Oh deary me, what a depressing world we live in!

AND 24 MONTHS LATER, and the BEST the SEQUEL's MAKERS COULD COME UP with IS GIRL CHIPMUNKS to BE RIVALS (and, WE ASSUME, EVENTUALLY ROMANTIC INTERESTS) for ALVIN, THEODORE and the THIRD RAT-in-a-LETTERMAN's SWEATER?   

OH, and THEY ALSO CAME UP with the IMPOSSIBLY (INDEFENSIBLY) CUTE WORD "SQUEAKQUEL" to INCLUDE in the TITLE...

SINCE the HOLIDAZE ARE ALREADY DANGEROUS TIMES for  the SUGAR-INTOLERANT, WE RECOMMENDED AVOIDING THIS FILM the SAME WAY YOU AVOID AUNT HELEN's BRICK-LIKE FRUITCAKE. AND NOW THAT IT's on DVD, WE SUGGEST the BEST USE of the DISC ITSELF IS AS A DOG CHASE-and-CHEW TOY...

OF COURSE, IF YOU WANNA CONFIRM THAT YOUR GAG REFLEX IS INDEED STILL WORKING...
