Gee, how horrid!  Thanks to a freak snowstorm here in Western NewYork,  I missed it!   BTW, I might add, the storm is calledthe Columbus day storm by officials and the Friday the 13th storm bypeople who woke up to no power on Friday morning.   An omenperhaps?

One of our local art theaters is showing Plan 9 From Outer Space at the midnight movie tomorrow night, along with some home movies from Ed Wood's personal archive (undoubtedly the production values are superior in the home movies). Unfortunately, they are showing the colorized version, which decidedly spoils the experience.

Has it ever been suggested that a special Razzie should be awarded to Ted Turner for championing the worst assault on the motion picture arts in the history of filmdom, aka colorization? 

Response from Head RAZZberry: I used to joke that once he got the rights to the M-G-M film library, Turner would finally get around to making the first ten minutes of THE WIZARD OF OZ in color -- the way they were alwaze meant to be!

But the process of colorization can't be entirely blamed on Turner -- I used to have a neighbor about 25 years ago who was one of the first to work at colorizing movies. Most of his clients were the studios themselves, tarting up their films like so many cadavers painted by Forest Lawn morticians, in the hopes of getting higher syndication prices for them. Turner simply followed their lead...

Plan 9 has inspired entire websites devoted to listing the numerous film flubs. This is one of the more comprehensive. Readers may want to copy them off and watch for them as we watch this yet again, as surely we all will. Maybe we should meet in a chatroom that night.

A total of 73 are listed (although there are a couple that were missed) which isn't bad in a movie with a running time of 77 minutes.

BTW, the TCM showing of PLAN NINE on October 13 will be immediately followed by one of Wood's other "Anti-Classics," BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (in which Bela battles that infamous rubber octopus)...

I just got the schedule for TCM, and PLAN 9 will be airing on Friday the 13th...of October, at 11:00 PM Pacific time...

I always felt that Bela Lugosi was the LUCKY ONE in this, as he didn't live to see the finished picture... The special effects were cheesy (to say the least!) and of course the bad acting that would have made Sylvester Stallone look good...that didn't stop Ed Wood from putting this out and inflicting it on the movie-going public...

I think this should be one of the first movies to win a retroactive Razzie (what say we name it "The Ed Wood Memorial Razzie")...
