I moved because there were no Jobs! Now I'm in Vegas, I can't complain. There's always someone hiring. I got hired the first month I was here! California need to improve their employment situation if they ever hope to get out of debt.

Piracy has nothing to do with it. The music industry blames Internet downloading, but for some reason morons like Britney Spears still sell platinum. If piracy were that bad, most musicians would be starving. They're not. I only bought one new CD last year (Nine Inch Nails). The music industry can't figure out that CDs are too expensive. Plus music was better in the 90s...

I blame the Chicago Cubs.  They can put together a crappy team and still sell out Wrigley Field every day with jacked up ticket prices.  Obviously, Hollywood has noticed.

Take a look at these "penny horrors."  They cost very little to produce, which means that they can turn a profit literally by the end of opening night.  Even if it's a piece of  that closes after the second week, the studio that made it still made a tidy profit. 

yep and Hollywood are suffering just like the music industry is.

Maybe Piracy has alot to do with it but I think its the selection of movies and really people just staying at home to watch a flick which is less expensive and more accomadating.

I for one watched 12 films last year and al of them sucked.

Sorry but Hollywood insults our intelligence and they wont be seeing my hard earned money anymore.

Speak for yourself.  I went to the movies more than 100 times last year.

All I can say is I hope the studios get on the band wagon fast or the theater will disappear altogether. I'm thinking of getting a Sony PSP, not for the UMD movies (I'd rather just buy the DVD) but for all the other features. You can play MPeg4 movies and music videos. Soon they'll be able to play Quicktime trailers on the iMovie pods.

Tell you buddies at Apple that I think Quicktime is the clearest, sharpest format there is. I always try to view a trailer in Quicktime if I have the option to. Here are a couple of links that are pretty good about supplying Quicktime trailers:

You have the same distractions at home: the phone, the annoying Jehovas Witness knocking on the door, screaming kids, the drive by shooting down the street. If I had a 30 foot screen in my living room I'd never go to the theater. Untill then I'll just have to drag myself to the movies.

Box office is down mostly because Americans Know Basic Math. In their attempt to move DVDs off store shelves, studios have continued to lower their sale prices until it now costs LESS to BUY the movie on DVD (average price $15-$20) than it costs for TWO TICKETS (average price $20+) to see it ONCE in a theatre (complete with TV ads tacked on the front, patrons talking to both the screen and their cell phones throughout, and candy counter prices more apropriate to 1920s Germany!). 

In other words, Tinsel Town's OWN GREED is what's done them in!
