They shot WAY up over the summer of '05. Not everyone lives within walking distance of a movie theater and therefore people who would need to drive 15 miles to see a movie want to make sure they are going to see something worth going to. The Solution: Theaters need to be more selective about the movies they show.

Problem #2: People are too used to doing their own thing while watching a DVD at home, so they tend to talk make noise, act completely inappropriately or let their ill-mannered children run wild. The Solution: Bouncers. One warning for noise and then they kick their ass OUT!

Problem #3: Television ads on the movie screen. Could there have been a more demystifying action than to allow corporate sponsors to slap their gauche television commercials in with the previews before a movie started? If people can't get away from that crap when they leave home, they aren't going to leave home. The Solution: Not much the Theaters can do about it.. except to hit fast forward whenever the television ads show up.

The Conclusion: Theaters need to start providing a service to their viewers again and not be a haven for the stupid. They need to do it fast before the movie industry gets to a point where straight to DVD may be more cost efficient.

I'm thinking of getting a Sony PSP, not for the UMD movies (I'd rather just buy the DVD) but for all the other features. You can play MPeg4 movies and music videos. Soon they'll be able to play Quicktime trailers on the iMovie pods.

Tell you buddies at Apple that I think Quicktime is the clearest, sharpest format there is. I always try to view a trailer in Quicktime if I have the option to. Here are a couple of links that are pretty good about supplying Quicktime trailers:

www.jurassicpunk.com

www.themoviebox.net

Imagine a bunch of people with the next
generation of iMovie pods that play iTunes and iMovies! According to
several pals I have at Apple, Jobs is going to unveil this very soon!
