Time for the penultimate review of the Resident Evil franchise. After Extinction sucked to high heaven, Worthless Sh*t Anderson decided to get back into the director's chair. With this one, I noticed a pattern with the Resident Evil franchise. Remember how in the original Star Trek movies, the even numbered ones were good and the odd ones sucked? With Resident Evil, the odd numbered ones are horrible, while the even numbered ones plainly suck.

 
There's one actor in this that I like and that's Kim Coates. He plays a sleazy producer named Bennett. I'm not sure how much of my enjoyment of his performance is due to actual quality or me being a Sons Of Anarchy fanboy, but still. I, also, enjoyed the opening scene where Alice's clones wiped out a bunch of Wesker's troops. It was, surprisingly, well directed. But, without a doubt, my favorite thing about this movie was that Worthless Sh*t finally started listening to his critics. He had more homages to the games in this and, best of all, Alice get her God mode Sue status taken away. All her clones are blown up, her psychic powers are taken away, and her fights are more balanced.
 
Now to point out the film's many flaws. Wentworth Miller is crappy as Chris Redfield. His interactions with his sister Claire come off as being more like lovers than siblings. Shawn Roberts is crappy as Albert Wesker. In his first scene he underplays him and for the rest he goes way over-the-top. Part of this could be Worthless Sh*t making Wesker a cannibal. Since the scenes where he "ingests fresh DNA" are so hilariously dumb, maybe Roberts went with the crazy flow.
 
Despite her character being reigned in, Jovovich's performance got worse. Maybe it's because she knows that if the director asks her to try better, he'll have to sleep on the couch tonight. But, as bad as she is, she's nowhere near as bad as Ali Larter. With this film, Larter establishes herself as one of the worst actresses of our time. Her character gets amnesia and forgets who she is and Worthless Sh*t probably forgot why he cast her in the first place. He claims that it was her role in Heroes, but since any episode of Heroes was less watchable than all the Resident Evil movies combined, I find this claim hard to believe. And the special effects are still crappy as Hell.
 
Now for the part where I rip into Worthless Sh*t. Aside from the opening scene, the action is terrible and boring. The end fight with Alice, Wesker, Chris, and Claire is one of most poorly shot action finales in memory. There's a terribly shot action scene in the shower room that shows how little Worthless Sh*t cared. A zombie pops out from a place where we (and Alice) should have seen it before. But, pay attention to the showers in the background. In one shot they're off, but in another they're on, then off again, and so on and so on. Another sign of how little Worthless Sh*t cared is the prescence of the ocean. See, in the last one, we're told that the T-virus somehow caused all the water in the world to dry up. That doesn't make any damn sense and only seemed to be there so Worthless Sh*t could rip-off Mad Max, but okay. So, why in the Hell is there an ocean if all the water's dried up? But, the worst thing about the film is how Worthless Sh*t shot the 3-D. You now how in Avatar, Hugo, and Hell even Trannies Three, the 3-D seemed seemless? Here, it's incredibly obvious.
 
I can't wait until I'm finally done with this series. Grade: C-

I'm surprised this didn't go straight-to-DVD.  Guess the RE movies must be making enough money at the theatres to make it worth it.  Of course, DVD sales are lagging nowadays, so maybe going straight-to-DVD is so dicy that we won't be seeing that as much anymore...

Another huge mystery is the Rotten Tomatoes ratings. On September 11... amongst higher critics, one in 7 thought it was okay while the other 6 hated it. With the lower level critics, it's vice versa.

UPDATE: As of September 12, apparently the ratio for lower level critics is down to: 3 like it for every 1 who dislikes it instead of 6 to 1.

I looked up Degeneration, and it was a Japanese Computer Graphics film. It wasn't quite live action. So Afterlife is still the 4th in the regular series of Resident Evil films.

Let me say this first: 
 
I am not a fan of the "Reident Evil" video games, and that of course does'nt mean I like the movies.
 
Unfortunately, I have seen all three previous movies, and they have gotten progressively worse after each one. If I had to say which was the worst, then I would say the third..it is a steaming pile of horse manure (with apologies to all horses and manure piles!). At least the first was somewhat "so-bad-it's-good," but the second and third have no redeeming features at all.

So, by my reckoning, the fourth installment in this lovely series is going to be the worst.
I'm kind of surprised they have lasted this long, since they haven't made that much money...

Holy crap...  Head-Razz I just had an amazing idea for a new category this year, screw "worst ensemble cast" and "worst excuse for a rom-com". Let's try The "You Raped my Eye Award" for worst 3d Movie... or something like that, there are plenty of nominees to chose from and even more on their way. And it would get this movie (and Clash of the Titans) on the Nominating Ballot for sure.

Also, kind of off topic but i used to watch this show called X-Play alot and they did a thing on video game movies. It was pretty funny, and the Ah-Nnuld impersonator always cracked me up:

I did kinda like Silent Hill, Even though it had a few glaring problems, mainly dialogue. I do think a Halo movie would be amazing, especially if it had this kind of intensity:

I also wouldn't mind a Mass Effect and/or Shadow of the Colossus movie if placed in the right hands, unfortunately that never happens.

Yeah, it was a CGI movie that had NOTHING to do with the Milla Jovovich movies, so this is the FOURTH movie fo the series. 

Get this, that CGI movie (looks to the left, looks to right, leans foward while covering one side of his mouth and whispers) It was actually based on the video game.

I seem to remember that another film in this series came out last fall or so, at least, I remember ads. And it was NOT Extinction or Afterlife, it had a different title. So, isn't this the 5th installment??

*Who the (beep) does Milla Jovovich think she is?! Claiming she singlehandedly put the Resident Evil series on the map?! If she knew anything about GameCube, she'd know that gamers (including me) hold Resident Evil 4 (the original 2005 game) as among the best of the "Decade of the 00-Agents."

Hey Miguel, if you think Burn was "cold and heartless," wait till you read this! As a gamer who absolutely loves the Resident Evil game series, I can think of nothing good that will come from this movie. Here are my reasons why:  

1. WHO THE f**k IS ALICE! YOU'RE NOT EVEN IN THE GAME!
2. Milla Jovavich is a sh*tty actress, and Paul ws Anderson is a sh*tty director -  nuff said.  
3. Each movie has been one steaming pile of moose sh*t after another
4. The trailer doesn't even look good, it tries to be cool, but it just looks cheesy and dumb...FAIL!
5. WHO THE f**k IS ALICE... SERIOUSLY! 

I may sound harsh in prejudging this film, but to be fair I'm only basing my opinion on how insanely bad all the other movies were. And on a slightly off topic side note, Milla Jovavich once said in an interview that she took an underground game (Resident Evil) and made it a big name 'cause of her movies... burn in hell Milla, you're an awful person. Big smile

This is my first post  here on Razzies.com, and need I say, HeadRazz, you're right about Resident Evil: Afterlife. It is too late to cash in on the 3-D. Just ask the creators of Piranha 3-D. It's a good movie (by the looks of it) but, It was just too late! (Unless you made a movie, a-la Despicable Me-or-any-other-good-ish 3-D movie!) 

Anyhoo, I'm going to watch Tomorrow, When The War Began on the Weekend, and it AIN'T 3-D! (Thank Darnly!) Hope you make me feel welcome! 

(P.S: Once, I was bashed on a Virtual Pet site, and taking it out on crap like this!)

I've noticed that the plot-holes in the "RE" movies are just as Grand-Canyon-sized as the plot-holes in between the recent "Star Wars" prequels and the original movies. 

But then again, if you're willing to pay to see Milla Jovovich running around and shooting everything in sight, you probably don't give a s*** about plot-lines!!
