I just watched Duplicity, and I wouldn't label it as a rom-com; it's
more of a complicated caper film where plot comes first before anything,
not at all what I was expecting.

Nevertheless, the reason I think why a movie like Duplicity works
and Gigli doesn't is that it's set up and developed believably (by
movie standards anyway). I can actually buy that Clive Owen and Julia
Roberts are corporate spies and that they fall for each other unwillingly.
Gigli however, is such an unbelievably inept train wreck from start to
finish that I don't even know where to begin in listing off this movie's
problems.

Let's start with the premise: a mob enforcer is assigned to kidnap the
retarded brother of some prosecutor who is planning to put a mob boss
to prison. Since Gigli's boss doesn't trust him to do this alone, he assigns
an assassin to monitor his activity. Gigli figures since he has a hot girl in
his apartment, he will seduce her into sleeping with him. It is then when
she reveals that she is a lesbian. Over the course of the movie, he
gradually falls in love with her and finally confesses his love to her which
is proceeded by her sleeping with him.

Now if you aren't thinking "Why the hell would anybody try to make a
movie out of this mess?" then I guess there's no talking to you. Now if
you are appalled that something like this made it to the theaters, then
you've only witnessed a preview of how outrageously inept this movie is.
Already this rant is rather long and if I don't do something else, I'll get
carpel tunnel. So unless you are doing it on behalf of the Razzies, do not

I saw New in Town some weeks ago, and I was wondering: Was it just me, or this film feel like a succession of scenes ripped off from Baby Boom, Forrest Gump, Adaptation, and several other movies.

Unbelievable. Really. Thank God for the always reliable J.K. Simmons, but not even he could save this movie!

Actually I was referring more to romantic comedies; Memento and other
movies of its genre don't give into convention nearly as badly as romantic
comedies. I know that chick flicks nowadays are really intended to be light
and frivolous forms of entertainment, but would it kill Hollywood to try and
reinvent itself every once in a while without creating a debacle like

Believe me, Gigli is anything but generic. Sometimes that's a good
thing, but in this case it isn't. It's been over a year since I saw it for the first
time on the WB, and I'm still pondering how anyone in their right mind
thought it was a good idea to make a romantic comedy about two people
who are mob enforcers. That just does not make any sense. If I were to
say anything positive about the movie, it's not likely to make a sequel

No, her face is getting weird. If you look back to her movies in 1996, she face was perfectly smooth. Around the early 2000s, it just started to squint, and now it's the mess it is today.

By-the-numbers chick flicks are quite possibly the lowest form of entertainment, taking into account by-the-numbers horror movies and teen-sex comedies. As often as they're out lately, they may as well get their own Razzie category. As for the plot itself, the plot was quite uneven and jumbled. For example, one scene it would
mention it being the first Friday in November, the next scene it shows the main character trying
to catch her flight home for Thanksgiving. What has happened in the weeks between? Anyway,
since her flight was canceled due to the weather, she tries to drive her way back into town and
ends up crashing her car in the snow, thus needing to be rescued by the man she is destined to
be with by the end of the story. In a scene that takes place just after New Years, she tells him, "I
never had a chance to clear the air after you rescued me"; but wait- that was Thanksgiving, over
a month ago, and since they work together they would have seen each other multiple times since
then.

Those are just some of this movie's problems, with it being a by-the-numbers chick flick. It's the
run-of-the-mill kind of bad in the usual ways.
