Probably the film would have been much better, or actually not so bad, if Eckhart had been cast opposite Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal, or Michelle Monaghan.

Unfortunately, even that point doesn't distinguish this film from several dozen of the others. It's almost as if there is some sort of fool's lottery in Hollywood as to which two semi-recognizable faces have to appear in this month's edition...or, which semi-recognizable male face has to appear across from Aniston this month.

Maybe in a couple of month's they'll do something slightly original and cast Lindsey Lohan across from Aniston. At least the men would go see it.

It's not like it would damage either of their careers either.

They should just do a Rom-Com with Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts, and maybe make it a love triangle with Sandra Bullock. Eckhart is just not the rom-com type. Aniston doesn't seem to do much BUT rom-com-dram, but Eckhart can do much, much more. Yea, this movie does nothing to even draw attention to itself. I have a hard time believing that any woman will even be able to drag her man to it.

Lotta single, lonely women...that's its only audience.

The problem here is that this film has already been made about 800 times and what does it really matter if this is the worst of them? It's not like the best one was particularly good. EITHER HOLLYWOOD IS GETTING BETTER at DISGUISING the LACKLUSTER QUALITY of ITS PRODUCT, OR WE'RE GETTING LESS SAVVY at SPOTTING TURKEYS BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY TROT ACROSS the SCREEN. BUT THEN CAME the SURPRISE TRIPPLE WHAMMY -- BY ITS OPENING DAY, HAPPENS HAD an R.T. RATING WELL WITHIN RAZZ-ABLE RANGE, and by the END of ITS OPENING WEEKEND, BOTH ITS WORD-of-MOUTH and BOX OFFICE NUMBERS MADE IT LOOK LIKE ONE of OURS AFTER ALL.

HERE'S YOUR CHANCE to PILE ON to WHAT LOOKS LIKE 2009's 57th DISAPPOINTING "ROM-COM BOMB."  AND WE CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE YOU EVERYONE (EXCEPT MAYBE MOVIEWIZEGUY) IS LIKELY to LOVE ANYTHING NASTY YOU WISH to ADD to the DISCUSSION...
