SEVERAL FORUM MEMBERS HAVE RIGHTFULLY POINTED OUT HOW SURPRISING IT IS THAT the SAW SERIES, ONE of the GROSSEST EXAMPLES of the GENRE KNOWN as "TORTURE PORN," GOT ALL the WAY to a SEVENTH INSTALLMENT WITHOUT EVEN "WINNING" a SINGLE RAZZIE® AWARD. EVEN MORE SHOCKING: NONE of the PREVIOUS SIX FILMS WERE EVEN NOMINATED for a RAZZIE® -- DESPITE BEING LISTED for WORST SEQUEL REPEATEDLY ON OUR ANNUAL NOMINATING BALLOTS, YEAR AFTER YEAR SINCE 2005... WITH the ADDED EDGE of BEING in 3-D, PERHAPS SAW 7 (CLEVERLY/SNEAKILY BEING SOLD as SAW 3-D) WILL FINALLY BE a "WINNER." WITH BLOOD, SINEW and BONE MATTER APPEARING to FLY thru the AIR and SPLATTER on THOSE 3-D GLASSES WE'RE ALL SICK of PAYING for (and NOT GETTING to KEEP!) THIS LITERAL EXAMPLE of OVERKILL at LAST EARNED THIS EXECRABLE SERIES a PLACE in RAZZIE® ANALS... OR MAYBE OUR VOTING MEMBERS WILL LET THIS ONE SLIP BY WITHOUT a "WIN," TOO?? TWO LAST THINGS THAT FAVORED SAW 3-D BEING RAZZIE® NOMINATED: IT'S SUBTITLE IMPLIES THAT THIS WILL BE the "FINAL" INSTALLMENT, and THIS YEAR, THERE IS NO HOSTEL SEQUEL to STEAL IT'S RAZZIE® THUNDER... ![]() MAD DOCTOR: "S-H-H! Tell no one -- We don't want rotten word-of-mouth getting out too fast, do we?!?" |

This one better be the one to get the SAW series a RAZZIE nomination! I've been waiting since 2007 for that! SAW 1 and SAW II were decent-quality horror films, SAW III was okay, then when it came to SAW IV, I was done with the series. It ranked at #23 on my Bottom 40 Films of 2007. SAW V ranked at #30 on my Worst of 2008, and I was appalled at how many people I asked saying it was their favorite film of that year! SAW VI got slightly better reviews and only #37 on my Bottom 40 of 2009, but now with SAW VII 3D, if this gets a nomination, it'll definitely scrape the deeper half of my Bottom 40 of 2010.

At long last, this tiresome series will finally end! But I still have this nagging feeling that Lionsgate will look at the 3-D surcharged profits and claim "Look at those numbers, we HAVE to make an 8th movie -- or a reboot!"
Just let it go already! |

I don't know about this one. Since the director of the last film is returning, there is some hope that this could be good. However, the marketing really pushes the 3D aspect, and in the worst possible way. It's horrible, but that's probably due to the fact that it's the "final" one, so they have to go "all out."

Sign of hope? The only sign of hope is that this will be the final nail in the coffin for the torture porn genre, which has overstayed its welcome. Sure, it might have been considered "cutting edge" (no pun intended) in 2003/04, but now 6 or 7 years later, it's just old, stale, and needs to go away.

Lionsgate does not know how long we've waited to finally give the 'Saw' series what it deserves! Giving a 'Saw' movie a Razzie would also make up for the Razzie's mistake of nominating 'Blair Witch Project,' hailed by many as one of the greatest horror movies of all time, for Worst Picture. |

You see in this filmmaking world there's two types of people my friend. Those with the knowledge of film and those who think they do but really don't.

I used to say this was my favorite horror franchise of all time. Now I'm having second thoughts. I mean none of the SAW films has ever been really scary, even though they shine in other aspects.
SAW(7/10).Didn't look new, but it felt new. Writers Leigh Wannell and James Wan also did a good job acting and directing, respectively. SAW II(5/10).The breakout here was director Darren Lynn Bousman. SAW III(5/10).At times it felt a little uninspired.I like the LOST aproach it was getting by having cameos and scenes you only understand by paying full attention to each movie.Wannell stop writing after this and you can tell why. SAW IV(4/10).Half the twists were predictable. It felt more like LOST because it had the TV feeling of delaying in order for the franchise to continue being a franchise. SAW V(4/10).They replaced Bousman with David Hackl(the production designer?!).Just like 50% of LOST's 2nd season and 70% of the 3rd season, it felt like a filler TV episode. Very slow with not a lot of things hapenning and with an unbelievably predictable ending. And with less and less original characters. I haven't seen SAW VI, but I'm looking forward to it and to this one. Since it's the last one, they'll hopefully tie up all loose ends.

The series went to s*** the nanosecond more than one movie came out. Seriously, having crew members double as actors? I know they work on shoe-string budgets, but come on now!

Based on re-watching them, here are my ratings:
Saw: 6/10 - It's really not that good of a story the more you watch it. Saw 2: 6/10 - This one is actually growing on me. I used to hate it. Saw 3: 6/10 Saw 4: 7/10 - The best one in the series, IMO. Saw 5: 5/10 - More of the same. Saw 6: 6/10 - It's an improvement. |

Usually, I would jump in with my timeless "gee, MWG gives another 6 or higher rating to another Razzie considered movie", but at this point, there's no reason to. It's a horror movie, so of course he's going to love it...

The one silver lining is that this is the end of the series. That doesn't mean that this last one is gonna be any good though.
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: If you honestly believe that, if SAW 3-D makes a tidy profit, Lionsgate is actually going to honor their "promise" that this is the last in the series (and never, ever make another SAW movie) you must be the audience member who starts the applause every night to bring Tinkerbell back to life... |

The posters specifically said that this was 'The Final Chapter'. Of course, they could be lying to us. There are rumors of a Saw VIII floating around the internet. If this does make a decent amount of money then they probably will make a Saw VIII. And how abhorred in my imagination it is. My gorge rises at it.

If for one moment, you are even slightly surprised when Lionsgate annouces there's going to be an 8th movie, then wow, you truly don't know how Hollywood works. There's a big reason why this last movie is in 3-D. After the last one bombed against "Paranormal Activity 1", they had to combat it with some kind of gimmick. Because, as Hollywood's favorite saying goes, "If you can't make it good, make it 3-D!" |

SAW 1,893,723:
Jigsaw didn't die! It was a surgically altered disciple acting like Jigsaw! Jigsaw is still alive . . .
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: What, you couldn't take the time to render 1,893,723 as a Roman numeral??? ...KIDDING! |

I remember having nightmares after seeing a TWO AND A HALF MEN episode set in the future with the characters at the movies watching SAW 33!
Even though there have been a lot franchises that continued after the supposed "final chapter," SAW is known for it's continuity through sequels. If this movie ties all loose ends (and I'm sure it will -- DR. GORDON will appear!)then there's no way they could make VIII. I mean they could, but it would have to be a "spin-off" and would therefor most likely flop. I sure hope Lionsgate learned their lesson when SAW VI bombed. |

I fear that nightmare may be closer to becoming a reality than you think!
