It's getting to the point where every movie's biggest grossing day is the day it opens -- Even for movies that wind up being #1 their opening weekends. Case in point: FINAL DESTINATION 3-D, whose Friday-to-Saturday grosses managed to fall-off 6% the first weekend, despite apparently enthusiastic word-of-mouth from the misbegotten movie-goers at whom such mindless junk is targeted.

Here's a B.O. MoJo LINK to see how far down the box office escalator FD3-D goes from there...

It seems like these movies don't really have a whole lot of staying power, either.

Unlike most horror movies, the FD movies have a lot of staying power, AKA legs. The first film proved this ( http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekend&id=fin aldestination.htm).

TFD is #1 again for the second week in the row, and is likely to be the highest grossing FD film in the franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if it makes $150 million worldwide!

Staying power? Didn't you say this was the most disappointing movie of the series? Plus, two weeks in a row isn't real staying power. If this movie was #1 for three or four weeks in a row, then you can say it has staying power. But when the only thing that stood a chance against it was a crappy Sandra Bullock movie, it's no surprise it won the B.O. race. As for making $150 million worldwide, well, that would pretty much lock in "FD #5". And considering this fourth installment was "disappointing", then this poosible 5th movie will no doubt make "Batman & Robin" look like "Dark Knight". How many movie series have a good 5th installment (besides "Batman Begins")? Answer: None.

It was disappointing, but that doesn't mean the film doesn't have legs. And #1 for two weeks is a sign the film has some legs, because that is rarely achieved by any film these days.

Any movie being #1 for 2 weeks in a row tends to imply more about the movies that came out that week rather than the one that stayed in.

That's right. It's much more common for movies to be #1 two weeks in a row, mostly because there's no good movies out at the time. Now, if "FD 3-D" can remain #1 for the rest of the month, THEN it has legs. But seeing as how there's a line-up of some what better movies coming out than what Labor Day weekend had to offer, that's not going to happen.

What came out this week?
Extract? That's got a limited audience...
All About Steve? Horrible... horrible.
Gamer looks pretty lame...
The biggest movie to open against it was AAS... c'mon...

Exactly! And while "Inglorious Bastards" did well, no teenagers in these days will go see a 3 hour movie that is mostly talking. No, they are going to see the horror movie ... not to be scared by it, but just to see the over the top ways people will be killed off. Hence, "FD 3-D" wins not because it "has legs", but because it's a simple movie for teenagers to follow and it had nothing else to stop it. However, with movies like "9" and "IKWYDLS Part 4" coming out next week, "FD Part 4" won't repeat. It dropped from $27 mil to $12 mil. It's got no where to go but down.

But a lot of sites were predicting Gamer to be on the top spot.

Well those sites were completely wrong about "Gamer". Frankly, it doesn't look worthy of straight to DVD, it's more along the lines of a Syfy (I can't believe they spell it like that!) Channel TV movie.

But why see it for free when paying for it will help topple "FD 3-D" from being #1?

Oh, and surprise, surprise. "FD 4" didn't have legs after all. As it turned out, when faced with real competition, the movie dropped many spots down the B.O. chart.

Well, it hit #1 for a 2nd week in a row internationally, with a worldwide total of $113 million. And even though it dropped to #5, it still has made a lot of $$$.
