This may have set a new record for WORST Opening Weekend EVER for a Wide Release: Playing on over 1,000 screens, TRANSYLMANIA averaged a truly scary $87 (yes, we do mean Less Than $90!) per day, per screen for its first 3 daze. Here's a B.O. MoJo LINK to its day-to-day grosses, to see if there is any further down this film can go...

UP-DATE: In their box office artcile the Monday after this swan-dived, The Los Angeles Times apparently did some research, calling TRANSYLMANIA "the third lowest-grossing film ever released on more than 600 screens."

DEAD-AS-A-DOORNAIL UPDATE: SEE 4th POST BELOW...

Again, I think what this movie needs is reviews, then it can legitimately be nominated for a Razzie. Though my vote for "worst comedy" is still going to be Old Dogs from here on out.
But yea, those numbers are absolute poop. I really want to see John Woo's Red Cliff, and it's nowhere to be found. A small part of me (the more cynical and vengeful part) wants to blame it on the fact that Transylmania was released a few weeks after it!

We frequently wonder how various piece of crap movies get greenlighted, but this movie could be the comic gem of the past 100 years and it still shouldn't have been greenlighted. Any moron probably could have told the studio that there was no audience for it. Evidently the studio heads didn't have one available to ask. Think about it: It isn't like it's a parody of several recent films. Essentially, it is a send up of the two Twilight flicks. Fans of that series don't want to see it parodied, and those of us who aren't fans don't want to see a parody of them any worse than we want to see the movies themselves.

Wow, that is impressive! I'm pretty sure this Box Office Bomb outdid the record once held by "Cutthroat Island" (budget = $120 million, B.O. gross = $10 million).

But it's good to know movie goers saw this for what it really was, a bad comedy trying to ride the coattails of the vampire craze that "Twilight" started. Too bad the same can't be said about movies goers seeing "Trannies 2" for what it was, CGI porn at it's worst.

DEAD-AS-A-DOORNAIL UPDATE: Yes, Virginia, there apparently was a "further down" this film could go. In its next-to-last day in theatres (Dec. 16) showing on a mere 118 screens, TRANSYLMANIA toppled all the way down to an utterly embarrassing...$13 PER THEATRE. That translates, at current ticket prices, to LESS THAN 2 TICKETS per screen for the ENTIRE DAY...

WOW!!

So what HAS done worse? I see Cutthroat Island
mentioned... I've also heard Sniper only lasted a
weekend. I don't know anyone who's seen Trannymania anyway.

This movie serves as the last example of another of 2009's worst trends for cinema: All the lousy teen movies. I'd recommend this for Worst Supporting Actor.
