WITH A GREAT CAST AND THE DIRECTOR OF SEVERAL ACCLAIMED DANIEL DAY-LEWIS MOVIES (AND, FOR SOME REASON, 50 CENT'S GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN') DREAM HOUSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HOME-RUN. BUT, DREAD SET IN WHEN THE TRAILER WAS RELEASED, AND BASICALLY GAVE AWAY THE WHOLE PLOT. AND THEN THE FILM WASN'T SCREENED FOR CRITICS. IT'S EVIDENT WHY: THE FILM IS A BORING RIP-OFF OF THE SHINING.TO RIP-INTO THIS SHAMELESS RIP-OFF, POST YOUR RESPONSES BELOW...

Did the trailer remind anyone of The Jacket/Premonition? Have to admit that I really hoped that this one would be good...

Do you think Daniel Craig could be nominated for this and COWBOYS & ALIENS?

Craig was "OK" in this. Naomi Watts was decent, but Rachel Weisz was pretty bad and Marton Csokas was the worst.
Since this could be considered a horror movie, I'll review this tomorrow as part of horror movie month.

I thought you reviewed 2011 movies aside, which is why you didn't review the bad family movies of this year.

This doesn't have an "official" forum so it's not the same. I just realized that it's not just a rip-off of The Shinning, but a rip-off of Shutter Island. I changed the color because it could, potentially, spoil the movie for a forum member who hadn't seen this, but saw the movie that's colored white.

I still can't believe that Jim Sheridan directed this movie.

Time to rip-into a nightmare of a movie.
The good:
Daniel Craig (for the second half): When the twist that you saw from the trailer occurs, Craig fits into the role better.
Naomi Watts: Watts is pretty and likable as Craig's neighbor who knows what's going on without actually telling us.
The bad:
Daniel Craig (for the first half): Craig as a warm-heated family man? It's not Denise Richards as a scientist, but still mis-cast. Thankfully, the twist puts Craig in better terrortory.
Rachel Weisz: Weisz is pretty bad in this. Not so much for the first part, but she devolved into terrible-ness towards the end.
Jim Sheridan: Sheridan's disowned the movie and it's not surprising. Looking at his resume, the only good movies are ones with Daniel Day-Lewis (edit: I forgot that Sheridan did In America, a good, Daniel Day-Lews-free movie. All of Day-Lewis' movies with Sheridan involed Ireland as did In America. Maybe Ireland is the key to a good Sheridan movie?) So, he's like Martin Campbell with James Bond.
The ugly:
Marton Csokas: Csokas plays Watts' douchey ex. He obnoxious and annoying. Also, he's the big bad of the movie, sending a hitman after Watts, but the hitman sucks at directions and goes to Weisz's house instead and kills everyone except for Craig. He's played by...
Elias Koteas: Koteas is absolutely wasted in this role. It's not his worst movie though. (i.e. TMNT3) (edit: Apparantly, Koteas wasn't in the original version of this! He was added during re-shoots.)
The script: What coked-up idiot wrote this? Apparantly, his name is David Loucka. The only previous film credit that I'm familar with is Eddie with Whoppi Goldberg.
Well, looks like I'm not the only one who felt this way about the movie. This opened behind a movie about cancer at the box-office. Also, does anyone else think that Rachel Weisz kinds looks like a hot, skinny version of Stephanie Meyer? Grade: D+
Next-up: Aliens V.S. Predator: Requiem! (except not tomorrow)

What about BROTHERS(6/10)?
I'd say Kat Dennings.

I just saw it.
I won't reveal the twist, but I will say it doesn't happen at the end like in most movies.According to my watch,it happens exactly half-way through. After that,it turns into an entirely different movie(more Drama than Horror).Usually after a respectable amount of time I start saying "So far, this movie is...",but here one just has to wait until the end.Don't get me wrong.I'm defending the idea for being interesting, but not the excecution. It's not fair to ask the audience to have that much patience.Because of all that,it generates doubts if it's a good movie or not,but the last 10 minutes helped me realize this is a bad movie. I give it 4/10. I don't want it to be nominated for anything.
