It baffles me that major studios are still willing to put 300 million dollar into movie projects like this (link), while attendence is at an all time low -- it really doesn't seem smart to take these risks!

Yeah, with so-called "blockbuster" movies barely opening with between $30-$50 million these days, $300 million is a HUGE risk, and is one of the reasons why I thought a "Green Lantern" movie would never be made. This movie suffers from CGI overload, and based on the trailers, not all of that CGI looks good OR even real.

The trailer looked OK to me. I mean, the effects didn't seem that good, and the story seems pretty standard. My main reason to see this is to see if GREEN LANTERN becomes my favorite movie superhero (the only contender so far is DR. MANHATTAN).

What do you mean? The only other superhero movies so far have been THOR and FIRST CLASS, and they were both good.

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: The box office pattern on almost every major movie released this year has been for its opening Friday to be the biggest-grossing day of its entire release, and for almost all of the films to head decidedly downhill from there. This may speak to the ever-diminishing attention spans of the teen-aged boys at whom most movies are aimed these daze. But I think this, and the overall/on-going drop in the number of movie tickets sold year-to-year, suggests a general (maybe even overwhelming?) dis-satisfaction with 2011's major movie product.

Oh!You were talking about box office results!I thought it was about reviews.

R.T. has a concensus:"Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, the movie squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology".From now on,I won't write the % until Saturday, and I don't think anybody else should. The number changes radically the first days.

Not to mention this film is directed by Martin Campbell... the man behind the two James Bond films 'GoldenEye' and 'Casino Royale'. Is it just me or is there the smell in the air signifying something unforgivable?

I actually liked Goldeneye and Casino Royale. I even pronounce 2006 as "Two Double-O-Six" because Alec Trevelyan, the villain of Goldeneye, was Agent 006.

And funny you should mention teenage boys' short attention spans. Where I live, the boys born in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 generally look like they were born in 2002, 2003, early 2004, late 2004, and 2005 respectively. Most of them also act like it, too. Could that be related to their short attention spans for movies that target them?

Heh, I guess Warner Bros should just stick to Batman.
Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact.

Worst Supporting Actor: Brendan Fraser/Gimme Shelter and The Nut Job

Well, they are, for 2012 with Nolan's third (and sadly, final) Batman film.

What I meant by this quote - 'Is it just me or is there the smell in the air signifying something unforgivable?' - was, how did he go from doing a good job of giving the Bond series a fresh start (twice) to doing something like 'Green Lantern'?

Plus, it will soon be the turn of 'Captain America: The First Avenger'. Which do you will it do:

a) What 'Thor' and 'X-Men: First Class' did, getting positive critical feedback

b) What 'Green Lantern' did, getting panned from all sides and getting a Forum here

I hate to use trailer cliches but the answer will be revealed... July 2011

Film Reel, I personally think that Captain America will bomb. To me Captain America seems like a very out-dated character. It's main reason for excisting was always very political, with him symbolizing America fighting against the Nazi-terror that wanted to take over the world. Because the war has been over for more than 60 years, the political context is missing, and the movie will stand out as an odd case....

That and the trailers made me think of Pearl Harbor...

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: I saw the trailer for CAPTAIN AMERICA on the head of SUPER 8 last weekend, and must say I concur -- it looks hokey as Hell, has the potential to be a laugh riot, and seems very dated. Plus which, being released fast on the heels of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and GREEN LANTERN will make it look like it's merely imitating those films, which only adds to its passe qualities.

The audience reaction from the screening was very positive. Looks like this is a movie that the critics hate but the audience will love. I am also appalled this on here. This looks great, f the critics.

Yeah, I guess there is a reason why WB use Batman as their go-to guy ... because they have no f***ing how to make a good movie for any of their other characters!
The Four Horsemen of the Moviepocalypse: uncalled for sequels/remakes/reboots, 3-D surcharges, untalented "celebrities", and anything with Michael Bay's name attached to it.

Looking great doesn't mean you are great when it comes to storytelling. "Transformers 2" was ripped apart by critics and won 3 major Razzies, but that didn't stop it from becoming the 11th highest grossing movie of all time. Conclusion: audiences just like looking at pretty colors, critics actually know what they are talking about.
