YE OLDE HEAD RAZZ WAS HEADing OFF for VACATION the MORNING of FRIDAY, APRIL 15, and HAD NO TIME to PUT UP a FULL-BLOWN ENTRY ON IT, BUT APPARENTLY the TAX MAN DELIVERED ONE of 2011's MOST TAXING-to-SIT-THRU MOVIES on TAXES-ARE-DUE DAY: ATLAS SHRUGGED: PART I.
WITH a CURRENT R.T. RATING of a LOWLY 12% FAVORABLE, THIS WAS OUR BONUS WORST of the WEEK TITLE, FLOPPED SO BADLY THAT PLANS to FILM the SECOND and THIRD MOVIES in the TRILOGY WERE PROMPTLY SHELVED...and EVENTUALLY WOUND UP on MANY a VOTING MEMBER's "PRELIMINARY CONTENDERS" LIST. FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR with the FILM (OR ITS SOURCE MATERIAL) HERE's a LINK to the OFFICIAL WEB SITE. FEEL FREE to SHRUG OFF THIS FILM'S CINEMATIC SINS BELOW... ![]() HER: "Here's to better reviews for PART II..." HIM: "With the kinda reviews we're getting for PART I, there isn't likely to BE a PART II..." |

This has received 1 lukewarm positive review out of 16 counted, putting it in at 6% and that may be as high as it manages to go.

I read that John Galt is being played by the director. This has shades of M. Night in Lady In The Water. |

Evidently this film cheaped it out so thoroughly that pretty much everyone in the crew appears on screen as well.

Just out of curiuosity, won't it be difficult for a lot of Razzie-voters to find a copy and see this film before voting begins. I mean it is already in limited realease and there are no real big names attached. I don't want to be pesemistic or anything but i doubt that my video rental place will have a copy when it's released on DVD.

I'm sure it will be available in Redbox or On Demand. It will be aired in independent theaters in most large cities. It will probably take a little effort to find, but something that is evidently this half-assed is obviously worth our attention

Saturnwatcher, okey, but i am not from the States and the chances that it will be widly available overseas seem VERY slim to me. I think it will be somewhat harder for me to find a copy. I had the same problem with The Nutcracker in 3D.

First, Officer Barbrady was known for speaking out against the book Atlas Shrugged. Then, the book became a darling with the Tea Party. Now, this movie! Down to less than 10% at Rotten Tomatoes. Thanks for adding this forum! |

At this point, I really have no idea how wide of a release this is going to get internationally. I'm guessing that it is going to bomb so thoroughly here in the U.S. that it isn't going to get much of an overseas release. There is probably also an assessment by the people who made the movie that it wouldn't do very well in foreign markets anyway, since the only people that would swallow Rand's ridiculous political leanings are Americans who spend all their time listening to conservative A.M. talk radio shows...

Saturnwatcher, indeed, so i'll probably won't see this film before Razzie voting begins.
This film however seems to have a built-in audience (and might therefor become somewhat of a succes) link |

Much like Ebert noted, even the people who actually liked Rand's work probably won't like the film much, so word of mouth will likely strangle it in the cradle.

Judging by Atlas Shrugged: Part One's stated RT score, it appears 'Season of the Witch', 'Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son' and all the other low scoring contenders may have just come face-to-face with serious competition! |

You see in this filmmaking world there's two types of people my friend. Those with the knowledge of film and those who think they do but really don't.

Redbox ...Yes! Because with some movies, paying more than $1 is paying way too much!

Saturnwatcher, It's funny that you mentioned Ebert, He just tweeted the following:
From all reports, its audiences love "Atlas Shrugged." I thought even Randians would find it a snorefest. http://bit.ly/hMsrB5 Film Reel, I highly doubt if both Atlas Shrugged and Season of the Witch will be remembered/noticed by Razzie-voters when voting begins. I could be wrong. |

Considering the fact that Season of the Witch stars Nicholas Cage, who has just been arrested for battery charge, by the way, I'm sure the Razzie voters will try their best to remember it.
