2 days ago I went to the movies and saw SHERLOCK HOLMES 2. Whatever you felt about the 1st one, you'll feel the exact way about this one.

Yesterday I went to the 2D Digital Theater (instead of an old projector, they use one connected to a DVD (I think)) and saw THE HELP. Although I should've seen an action movie instead since it's HD, but that was the only one in that theater. The movie was alright, but if it gets nominated for Best Picture and DRIVE doesn't, I'm gonna be really pissed.

The Golden Globes have just been presented.  'The Descendants' (Drama) and 'The Artist'  (Musical or Comedy) both won Best Picture awards.    

Not long ago, I had a look at the Producers Guild of America nominees, and I was not pleased.  I'm thinking about holding my own award show in appreciation of good movies, so that I can agree with the people as to what they think are the best movies of each year (and prove that when it comes to nominating, I/we have a better sense of decency than a certain guild).

I forgot to mention the People's Choice Awards. The only relevant moment to the Razzies was Adam Sandler winning Fav. Comedy Movie Actor for JUST GO WITH IT (JACK & JILL was released after the nominations were decided). Once again, the clip montage showed him as the only nominee not even trying to be funny. And he saluted the troops in the Middle East -- Why does he always do that when he wins an award? Is not a bad thing, I'm just wondering...why every time?

It should be noticed that Madonna won Best Movie Song for "W.E.".

My only dissapointment is MIDNIGHT IN PARIS winning Best Movie Screenplay. I haven't seen the other nominees, but I still have a feeling they had better screenplays.

Miguel, Miguel, Miguel. Why do you get so worked up over utterly meaningless awards shows? How many times have we tried to explain to you that the Golden Globs are a complete joke? They are voted on by about 70 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and they have to bribe stars with lavish gifts and and open bar to even show up. The average Division 1 college football team has more players than there are members of the Hollywood Foreign Press. How worked up would you get if the Oregon State Football team held an annual movie awards presentation? Chances are, they have actually seen more of the movies.

I just saw THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN... in 3D! If you haven't seen it, the 3D is alright but not necessary. As for the Oscars, the movie is as good as RANGO and KUNG FU PANDA 2.

I am doing the Methane Movie Awards this year, Vits.  I'm just scheduling them closer to the Oscars and the Razzies because A. Those two shows are more relevant than the Golden Globes and B. I don't want to associate my awards with the Golden Globes.

Saturnwatcher, I don't think you saw the part where I bemoaned the Producers Guild of America's choices for Best Picture.  I was going to create an award show in response to their choices because only five of them were in my Top 10.  The HFPA and the Golden Globes have nothing to do with it.

Miguel, Miguel, Miguel...the Producers Guild of America (PGA) is an organization boasting more than 4000 members who's lives have been devoted to the entertainment industry. You are certainly entitled to your own opinions and you are even entitled to establish your own movie awards. Knock yourself out...after all, your Methane Awards will only be decided upon by about 69 less people than the Golden Globs. But credibility wise, I've got to lean towards PGA. No offense.

YOU DELAYED THEM?! But you didn't wait until April Fool's Day 2007 to hold the Worst of 2006 RAZZIES, so will you please revert the schedule? If not, I hope you're satisfied, HeadRAZZ, because this announcement ruined my weekend! I had my whole weekend planned around the nominations, and you just ripped them away, and I can't ignore such a thing. Plus you need to redeem yourself after the NUMEROUS mistakes that were made with the Worst of 2010 RAZZIES!

I know we don't spend a lot of time speaking of the year's best movies, but I wanted to chime in quickly on the Oscar race. Goldderby.com is spotting The Artist as the odds on favorite to take home Best Picture. I saw it over the weekend and I would definitely agree that it is a unique and very entertaining movie. It could only be pulled off once and they did a great job. But out of the three apparent frontrunners, I would still place The Help on top for story, social relevance and quality of acting with The Artist second and The Descendents a rather distant 3rd.

The Oscar nominations have been announced (I saw them live because here it was 10:30 AM):

-Best Picture nominess ended up being 9, with EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE getting a nomination over BRIDESMAIDS! And DRIVE, which only got one nomination for Best Sound Editing?!
-Woody Allen for Best Director over Nicolas Winding Refn?!
-Yesterday I read that GoldDerby predicted Demián Bichir from A BETTER LIFE sneaking into Best Actor, and he did. But Leonardo DiCaprio was snubbed. I saw J. EDGAR a few days ago, and he deserved the nomination.
-Max Von Sydow also sneaked in, snubbing Albert Brooks.
-As I said a few days ago, I didn't mind who won Best Animated Film between TINTIN, KUNG FU PANDA 2 and RANGO, because I thought they were equally good. But TINTIN was left out, and instead they put that awful PUSS IN BOOTS, and 2 foreign movies sneaked in. TINTIN did get a nomination for Best Score, and I thought that was it's weakest part. It was too similar to John Williams' previous works, specially CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.
-TRANNIES 3 is up for 3 including Best Visual Effects. It's against REAL STEEL, which I thought had awful effects. They could've chosen SUPER 8, THOR, GHOST PROTOCOL, and even FINAL DESTINATION 5 and SUCKER PUNCH!
-Most people wanted HARRY POTTER to be up for Best Picture, and it deserved it since it was among the best reviewed movies of the year. It's only up for the techincal categories (some said Alan Rickman was a safe bet).The same for THE MUPPETS, which is only up for Best Song.
-Some here thought Madonna's W.E. and Roland Emmerich's ANONYMOUS could be nominated for the Razzies. The former still has possibilities. Meanwhile, both movies are up for Best Costume Design.
-UNDEFEATED is up for Best Documentary. But wait! It's not the one with Sarah Palin.

I am very unhappy with some of the Oscar nominations. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Trite (Peter Travers called it that) over Drive for Best Picture. WTF?

Extremely Loud and War Horse were decidedly surprise picks -- the smart money seemed to be on Bridesmaids to get nominated as well. I've already noted this on another thread, but snubbing Project Nim in the Best Feature Documentary category is one of AMPAS's greatest injustices in years.

It's been known for awhile that Drive wouldn't get nominated for Best Picture, because it's not much of what the Academy likes.
