Now I know why the Methane Awards had a Worst Animal Movie category. These movies are everywhere!  

I should point out that the Razzie take should include the good aspects of the movie and/or the people involved. Yes, Kevin James is a past Razzie nominee, but he was also an Emmy nominee. And Rosario Dawson could be nominated if the Worst Couple award doesn't get dropped.

If this bombs, I'll add it to my list for Worst Ensemble Cast.
 
Frank Coraci, the director of this film, also made the 1998 RAZZIE classic The Waterboy, and the #8 Worst Film of 2004, Around the World in 80 Days.
 
Kevin James' resume includes: I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Bottom 40 of 2007, #5), You Don't Mess With the Zohan (Bottom 40 of 2008, #40), and Grown-Ups (Bottom 40 of 2010, #13). Is Kevin James part of the Happy Madison Fellowship?

It's almost like they made this movie with the Razzies in mind.

Just out of curiosity, have the makers of any movie (or any movie studio) ever tried to send DVD screeners to the voting members (like they do for the Oscars)??  


RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: The closest anyone every came to what you're asking about was in 1996, when M-G-M/UA tried to re-release SHOWGIRLS as a "midnight/so-bad-it's-good/talk-back-to-the-screen" movie, and re-did the film's poster to prominently feature the ad-line: "Winner of an unprecedented 7 RAZZIE® Awards, including Worst Picture." I proudly have that poster framed and hanging on my living room wall. 

Five years later, in 2001, Tom Green insisted in multiple interviews that he had specifically made that year's Worst Picture "winner" FREDDY GOT FINGERED in hopes of sweeing the RAZZIES®, and that when it did go on to "win" 5 statuettes, it was a "dream come true." 

But literally sending screener DVDs "for Your RAZZIE® Consideration"??  Let's just say "Not yet!"

Originally, my Methane Movie Award category for Worst Animal Film was created to recognize one of the bad movie trends of 2010.  I wasn't planning to bring it back this year, but seeing how this trend is still going on, I think I'll change my mind.  In addition to this movie, we had 'Hop' and 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' earlier this year, and we have more on the horizon: 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', 'Shark Night 3D', and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked' among others.

Keep in the mind the reason why movies like this (and the Zohan, Chuck and Larry) is because they bring in money. Now I don't know how well this will do, but I'm sure it'll do fine enough not to be considered a flop. Come on audiences eat up this kind of crap all the time. Seriously all of those movies that GTAHater listed made a 100 million a peice.

Gonna have to disagree with you here. While the Zoo-Keeper does look dumb, I think Kevin James is quite talented.   

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: "Quite Talented"? Based on what?? Can't speak for our other Forum Members, but I cannot recall a single thing James has done that merits more than a passing glance -- and I could name several projects he's been associated with that were more than worthy of RAZZIE® attention (which many of them received)...

I'd say that he falls under "semi-talented," unlike Rob Schneider, who is among the "no-talents."

Ken Jeong seems like a dead man, since he's in four big Razzie eligible films already this year.


Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are much more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact.

James is talented. He just happen to be friends with Sandler so his choices are not good.  

In THE KING OF QUEENS he did a very particular type of comedy acting that borderlines over-the-topness and that at first sight makes him look uncomfortable to be in front of a camera(another good example of this is Ed Helms in THE OFFICE, especially when he started), but it wasn't bad. He was great in HITCH, and he proved he can carry a movie in PAUL BLART. Although I admit I've never seen him do stand-up.

In the official take, you mention the Darwin Award winner who gave the elephant an enema and stood behind him...that I heard was fake.

As for the movie itself, it made me wonder if Dr. Dolittle called James to demand his animals back.

All I can say is, if you want to see a good movie about a talking (sort of) animal, hold out for the documentary  Project Nim, which is opening in limited release next week.
