IF GERARD BUTLER WERE SOME KIND of UNDERCOVER AGENT SECRETLY SENT to KILL OFF the GENRE of the ROM/COM, HE'D HAVE to BE CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL SO FAR. BETWEEN LAST YEAR's UGLY TRUTH and THIS CURRENT CLUMP o' CRUD, HE'S ALMOST SINGLE-HANDEDLY DESTROYING ONE of HOLLYWOOD's MOST RELIABLE GENRES, WORKING from WITHIN...
LOOKING ODDLY LIKE a ROM/COM REMAKE of THE DEFIANT ONES, THE BOUNTY HUNTER TESTS AMERICA'S INTEREST IN (and PATIENCE WITH) WHAT COULD BE CALLED "THE ANGRY ROM/COM" -- THE KIND of "ROM" WHERE the "COM" DERIVES from SADISITIC HATRED for ONE ANOTHER on the PART of the FILM'S PRINCIPLES. SINCE the SIMILAR (and FAR SUPERIOR) WAR of the ROSES WAS CONSIDERED a BOX OFFICE FAILURE OVER 20 YEARS AGO, the PROSPECTS for THIS FILM BEING a HIT WERE ALMOST NIL.
BUT DON'T LET US BE the ONLY NAY-SAYERS at THIS RAUNCHY POST-DIVORCE REUNION -- NOW IT'S YOUR TURN to TAKE a POT-SHOT or TWO at WHAT WILL (HOPEFULLY!) BE 2010's WORST EXAMPLE of the NON-ROMANTIC, NON-COMEDIC "ROMANTIC COMEDY"...

I may be the only one where I live who doesn't like Gerard Butler's recent work. I was hoping I wouldn't have to remind anyone, but... Gerard Butler didn't destroy the non-romantic branch of rom/coms from within. It never worked in the first place, IIRC.
RAZZIE Dirty Dozen: Battlefield Earth, F G Fingered, Pluto Nash, A Sound of Thunder, Alone in the Dark, Dirty Love, Rise Silver Srfr, Daddy Day Camp, IKWKM, The Love Guru, All About Steve, Airbender
Ah rom-coms, may you rest in peace! Oh well, Hollywood will always have sci-fi movies to fall back on. And if all else fails, they'll just add 3-D surcharges to everything.
The Four Horsemen of the Moviepocalypse: uncalled for sequels/remakes/reboots, 3-D surcharges, untalented "celebrities", and anything with Michael Bay's name attached to it.
Oh ... I don't know, "Bennifer" is a TOUGH act to follow!

Gerard Butler already made a bad romantic comedy last year with The Ugly Truth. I can't decide if this is worse, though.
Does anyone know if Diary of a Wimpy Kid and/or Repo Men will be added as another RAZZIE contender for March 19 or if Remember Me will be added as a leftover from March 12?
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: I would be the one who'd know and, as of about 10am/PST on Tuesday, March 16 (when I am posting this) I have added a Forum for REMEMBER ME (whose combined piss-poor B.O. and R.T. numbers are currently Almost-in-RAZZIE-Range at 28%). But I do not have plans at this time to add any more of this week's titles to our Forum. Once I've seen more reviews on the March 19 releases that may change, though...

Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. Rom com bomb. . . .
I promise I'll stop when we get twelve, which is all we need for a special category, unless there's some sadistic demand to see how many rom com bombs we'll wind up with this year. This one apparently is a ripoff, too. I was thinking, didn't we already have exes axing each other with last year's Razzie nominee Did You Hear About the Moregroans?, but HeadRAZZ held out the superior example with War of the Roses. Besides, I don't think Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker were quite yet divorced in Moregroans. . . .
I don't think I can overlook the horrid experience Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joel Schumacher and Gerard Butler put me through bending my ears backwards with his singing in Phantom of the Opera. Here I am, expecting someone who could sing like Michael Crawford, and instead I get the singing equivalent of fingernails against the chalkboard.
So apparently there are three terms now that tell you that a movie is crap from the day it was conceived...
Movie Based On a Video Game (lots of them) Live Action Anime Based Film (We had Speed Racer and Draggin Balls Evolution, Keanu Bebop is next) New Rom Com
Agreed. Remakes of 70s/80s horror or J-horror movies could also be added to that list.

The Bounty Hunter is getting really AWFUL reviews:
"The putrid result never rises even to the lofty heights of mediocrity."
"Death, taxes, Gerard Butler. Wish them away all you like: still they befall us."
"Send Hollywood a message, and do not see this film."
"There’ll be worse films released in 2010 -- but not many."
"Exacerbating the lack of chemistry between Aniston and Butler, for a movie that is represented as a romcom thriller, it is neither funny nor romantic nor thrilling."
"I stared with glazed eyes at The Bounty Hunter. Here is a film with no need to exist."
I saw this yesterday for purposes of riffing on it... and for my Razzie ballot of course! For what it's worth, I agree with all of the critics' comments that Gregory posted.
I agree that after some horrible career choices that Aniston and Butler are both due for some Razzie love. *crosses fingers for this to make the shortlist*
I hate saying that because I think that both are very talented. In fact, I think that both (or at least Aniston, who is an Academy member) could have been at least Oscar nominated by now had they made the decision to star in better films. Of course, starring in a film better than The Bounty Hunter isn't hard to do.
