Wow, this is only the second comment for this.
The good: Rachel Nichols: She's hot and the only actual scare happens during her scene. Melissa George: She's, also, hot and performance is good. The bad: Jesse James: James is annoying as George's son and Ryan Reynolds' step-son. He has a perpetual stick up his ass and you'll just wanna throttle him. Jimmy Bennett: This bastard again. Before he annoyed me in Orphan and Poseidon and Vits in No Ordinary Family, he starred in this as James' brother. The ugly: The jump-scares: One of the cheapest tricks a horror movie can pull is a jump-scare. The Amityville Horror runs almost exclusively runs on jump-scares. All of the Platinum Dunes movies rely on them. Ryan Reynolds: Ryan Renolds in a horror movie is a bad idea. Remember Blade: Trinity? While it's not as bad a bet as Reynolds in a comic book movie (Green Lantern, Wolverine, the aforemented Blade: Trinity) his acting in this is terrible. He hampers his performance from the start by playing him as a sociapath at the beginning of the movie. This makes his transformation into a killer less shocking. As crappy as this movie was, it was better than the original. Grade: C- Next-up: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning!
