THERE WAS a TIME WHEN KIDDIE MOVIE DIRECTOR ROBERT RODRIGUEZ WAS a RELIABLE MAKER of ENTERTAINING, IMAGINATIVE CHILDREN's FARE...

BUT THAT WAS a LONG TIME AGO. IN RECENT YEARS, HE's HIT a CAREER BRICK WALL with the RAZZIE® "WINNING" SPY KIDS 3-D: GAME OVER (FEATURING SEVERAL of STALLONE's BERRY WORST PERFORMANCES) and the EXPENSIVE B.O. BOMB SHARKBOY & LAVAGIRL.

NOW HE's BACK with a MOVIE EVEN OUR VOTING MEMBERS MAY NOT REMEMBER COME YEAR's END: SHORTS FOCUSES on a GROUP of SUBURBAN BRATS WHO FIND a "WISHING STONE" and WIND UP CONJURING UP THINGS LIKE a SNOT MONSTER and TELEPHONES THAT PROTRUDE from THEIR HEADS.

SOUNDS LIKE MAYBE IT's TIME for RODRIGUEZ to CONSIDER DOING DIRECT-to-CABLE MOVIES for SY-FY...

FEEL FREE to GIVE SHORT SHRIFT to SHORTS BELOW. OR, IF YOU'RE MOVIEWIZEGUY, to DEFEND IT...

GIRL: "Geez, you mean if we had just waited 90 daze, we could've rented this for a dollar from RedBox, instead of paying 7 or 8 times that to see it in a theatre??"

R-Rod needs to stick with what he knows best: R-rated action movies. Still waiting for "Sin City 2".

He's producing "Predators", which hopefully will be R-rated fare. Time will tell if it's good enough to stay out of this site.

It appears to me that this guy's fixation on children is a bit unhealthy...perhaps even as unhealthy as his films are for audiences!

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: As Dad to a rather large family, Rodriguez often makes movies his own kids can see. And he also admits to occasionally getting ideas from his children...which goes a long way toward explaining SHARKBOY & LAVAGIRL...

I don't know about you but the Spy Kids movies were great.

Are you sure about this as Worst of the Weak -- because, even though all the reviews aren't in, this movie is actually getting good reviews. The one getting the bad reviews this week is "Post Grad."

Uh, no, moviewizeguy, the Spy Kids movies were mediocre at best, and each one became worse than the last as the series went on.

As for R-Rod's fixation with children, well, when you're the father of five or six kids, I guess you need to make some movies to appeal them, too.

Take note that the "great movies" statement comes from someone with the worst track record of bad taste in movies on this forum. I mean, he thought "White Chicks" was laugh out loud funny, and thinks "Knowing" and "Orphan" are the two greatest movies of this year, just because they have M. Night type themes...

The only positive I can spin out of Spy Kids is that they led to Alexa Vega eventually making Repo!, and that's something that only I'm going to like anyway.

OK, I exaggerated. The first two Spy Kids were good. I didn't like #3 though...

Okay, then. That's more like it...

... If you're into movies intended for kids maybe. I'm too old to get into Spy Kids, and I don't have kids of my own to make me feel the need to force myself to see the films.

I don't know, but when I think Robert Rodriguez, I think "Sin City", "Once Upon A Time In Mexico", "Planet Terror" and "From Dusk 'Til Dawn". In other words, all these hardcore R-rated action movies. The "Spy Kids" series doesn't even enter my mind.

Yea, I mean... You're talking about ridiculous action movies either way, but at least in the one kind, you might sneak a naked Salma Hayek in the mix.

Yeah, but you can see Salma naked ten times more in "Frida".
