QuoteReplyTopic: LINKS to SITES for OTHER FILM AWARDS... Posted: October 27 2009 at 3:40am
Since your presence here on our Forum suggests you may be interested in movie awards in general, below is a list (each with a text link to the appropriate web site) of various other film awards:
I'm so angry because of the Comedy Film nominees! I was so glad this year had so many popular comedies that had decent-to-good reviews. Like DATE NIGHT, GET HIM TO THE GREEK and HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, and I don't see them listed. There's also EASY A, but it deserved more. Instead, like usual, the priorities are the musicals, even if they're bad. RED's reviews were almost average, so why choose it instead of the good ones? And ALICE IN WONDERLAND's reviews were flat out average. And THE TOURIST?! It's not the worst comedy of the year, but come on! If they thought the performances were good, nominate them, but no need to nominate the movie. Of course there's like 10 or 15 worse romantic comedies, but that's because they were unfunny and cliche'd -- but at least half of them at least had chemistry!
I'm also pissed off about the comedy nominees. If they give Best Picture - Comedy or Musical to 'Burlesque' or 'The Tourist', I'm giving the Hollywood Foreign Press Association a red card. They could also make the same mistake they made last year in the TV categories (giving Modern Family the cold shoulder in favor of Fox's production of 'A Chorus Line').
Yeah, "The Kids Are Alright" will win, so cool your jets. It was a sucky year for comedie anyway. Just be glad your beloved "Twilight" didn't get any nods (boy, would we never hear the end of it then).
PS: Anyone else find it laugh out loud funny that the MTV Movie Awards are also listed here? It's like an old game of "Okay, children, which one does not belong?".
The Four Horsemen of the Moviepocalypse: uncalled for sequels/remakes/reboots, 3-D surcharges, untalented "celebrities", and anything with Michael Bay's name attached to it.
I found it funny that they have that and the Rotten Tomatoes Awards, but not the People's Choice Awards which are more known and relevant...well,at least when it comes to public voting awards.
I disagree. The 2009 Golden Globes were for the first half of the seasons for most shows, including GLEE and MODERN FAMILY.The 2010 Emmys awarded the entire seasons.MODERN FAMILY is a great show in general but if you divide it it's tough to say.GLEE's first half was so great and the episode SECTIONALS was excellent. It deserved the Golden Globe. But the episode HELLO ruined the impact of the previous one,the novelty of a musical show was over, and the half season just felt dragged on.I think COMMUNITY deserved the Emmy, but among the actual nominees MODERN FAMILY deserved it.
Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel....do you EVER pay any attention to anything we try to teach you here? The Golden Globs are as completely lacking in credibility as the People's Choice Awards. The winners are determined by a membership of (drumroll please) 90 voting members. NINETY! You might as well go down the the corner bar some night and hand out ballots. It would be just as important. The only way they can attract a small handful of nominees every year is to give out a cool prize basket and offer an open bar. It is a joke.

Well, Rotten Tomatoes I understand, since they are pretty much another Golden Razzies Awards. People Choice, MTV Movie and all other public vote awards have no business on this list. As I have said before, they are nothing by flavor of the month, popularity contests that have NO effect on the careers of the winners...

Yeah, it's sad indeed that the Razzie have over 7 times more voting members than the Golden Globes. As for the whole thing of "Glee" vs. "Modern Family", I'm sure "MF" will win. "Glee" is just a flavor of the month, in my opinion, and its 15 minutes in the spotlight will end within 2 years.

Saturnwatcher, the Golden Globes are not voted on by the public. I know they're not really a factor in determining the Oscars, but I didn't know that the Hollywood Foriegn Press Association was that small.
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: According to this morning's L.A. Times, the total voting membership of the HFPA (the people who determine Golden Globe nominees and winners) has dwindled this year to a new low of just 81 members. Statistically, in a field of 5 contenders, that means it is possible to win a Globe with as few as 17 votes -- Talk about A Big To Do About Nothin'...
They may not be a 100% determining factor to the Oscars ... but you do have to admit that more often than not, Golden Globe winners do go on to win Oscars, at least a good 80% of the time. Might be because the Oscar voters are too lazy to choose original winners??
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: The industry take on the relationship between the Globes and the Oscars is that Dick Clark Productions (which puts on the Globes broadcast) cleverly leveraged the Globes to be seen as a "harbinger" of Oscar choices to come (it's no coincidence that their nominees are announced in time to sway Academy voters, whose nominating ballots go out soon). The other big factor in the "symbiosis" between Oscars and Globes is the fact that many an AMPAS member votes without actually seeing the nominees in a theatre -- and a fair number of 'em supposedly vote without ever seeing the contenders at all (the joke is that if they don't simply replicate the Globe's choices on their ballots, they ask their gardeners, maids and chauffeurs what they saw and liked). Basically, the Globes are a giant joke that the public, because lots of stars attend their party/ceremony every January, think actually have merit. In truth, they don't...
