Maybe one of those scouts would have reported "Ow, this odorless, colorless, tasteless liquid that covers most of the planet's surface burns me real bad!". Please, M. Night wrote himself into a corner here, there's no defending it. I'll give the movie a solid 3 out of 5 for entertainment and production value, but that is one of the biggest plot holes in movie history.
Please read the whole FAQ.But yeah, the movie is far from perfect. But you sound like the plot holes are the main reason why you didn't like it more.Come on!
1)THE LORD OF THE RINGS:Nobody has said why SAURON is bad.
2)TOY STORY:If BUZZ though he wasn't a toy,why did he freeze like one in front of humans?
3)BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy:Really long list.Actually, the same for most time travel movies.

Yes, I'm aware of the plot holes in all of those movies, which is why I give most of them 4 out of 5 stars and not all perfect scores. But I nearly screamed at the screen during "Signs" when they said "They tend to stay away from water", which made me instantly think "Then why the hell are they invading a planet that's covered in water?!". That's just something that can't go overlooked. And don't give me "sailors adapt to life on the sea and people adapt to living in the desert", these were aliens without any kind of protection like the space suits that astronauts wear. For all the flaws that "SkyLine" had, they did something right: collect the humans with a tractor beam so you never have to leave your space ship and be harmed by the atomsphere that you're not accustomed to. Kinda sad that those writers had the right idea while M. Night dropped the ball.

It's also coming to Video-on-demand this (same) weekend and later this month you can rent the DVD.

Wasn't there a cameo of M. Night in which he says that he's going to a lake because the aliens seem to avoid water. Why would the aliens avoid something of which they are unaware. It's still a case of bad writing.

The real problem is that hydrogen is the single most common element in the universe. About 90% of the atoms in the universe are hydrogen atoms, and almost everything else is helium. The tiny percentages of the remaining elements are basically no more than traces, but the most abundant of them happens to be oxygen. On any planet where there is sufficent heat energy for  chemical activity to string together the complex molecules that might become self replicating, a solvent liquid that permits tearing apart and recombination of organic molecules will probably be found. The most likely fluid to do the job, based strictly on natural abundance of atoms in the universe and the probability that they will combine and form a liquid at reasonable temperatures just happens to be an assemblage of 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen atom...good old water...very probably the most common liquid in the universe on planets where complex life forms are likely to evolve. (At this point I could go on for pages about the possibilites that some sort of life could evolve on Titan, where methane, ethane or ammonia might substitute for water, but any life form that was comfortable on Titan wouldn't like living on Earth for a whole bunch of reasons.) So the idea that a complex life form would actually find water poisonous and still find Earth an attractive place to live is a tad...well, ridiculous.

Thank you! There are plot holes, and then there's mistakes that go against science and logic that can't be excused, and M. Night made the latter.

The berry esence of SINGS is what makes it not perfect. In horror movies there's no need to explain everything, but in science fiction there is.Mixing both genres doesn't seem like a good idea, and the movie is the proof.

From Box Office Mojo's website

The movie "Passion Play, with Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox and Bill Murray, stirred practically zero interest with around $2,100 at two locations (by comparison, also at two locations, Hobo with a Shotgun opened to $12,046)."

I am watching it right now.

I must admit that it is a step forward from Fox her usual acting-jobs and while she isn't perfect, she is at least better than she usually is. Rourke on the other hand plays his role with little to NO emotion.

Oh, and they both look awkward together. They interact with each other as if they are father and daughter. This is clearly seen during the balcony-scene in which Rourke asks Fox if she ever been to the ocean.

I've now seen 22 movies with a forum, I still have to see Hoodwinked 2 and Atlas Shrugged to have seen them all.

And yet, I have seen clips of the movie, and there's a scene in which Megan appears only in her underwear ... and I mean bottoms only. Kinda hard to say that she's trying to rely on her "acting" skills with an appearance like that.

Which brings me back to my original arguement: FULL FRONTAL, Megan! Porn actress Sasha Grey quit the skin flick business in order to do mainstream projects, so there's now a void that needs to be filled (no pun intended!).

Michaels, To be fair "good for her standards" is not the same as really being good.

Oh, and she tries to convince us that she's an innocent little girl (you know, like a child), which makes the entire film just kind of awkward...

*SPOILER*

They (sort of) pulled a Shyamalan, Rourke was death the whole time!

Just finished watching this. Horrible, but absolutely hilarious! I'm, almost, inclined to recomend it based on unintentional comedy alone.

It was indeed amusingly bad...

When I watched it. One of the things I mostly noticed was how awkward Rourke and Fox played lovers. Megan played her role like a five year old the whole time, while Mickey interacted with her as if he were her father. So by the time that they finally had a love scene together, It felt simply incestuous and disgusting to me. Did you had the same reaction SchumacherH8ter? And what did you think of that awfully cliched ending?

At this point, I can see it in the following categories on the nomination ballot:

Worst Actress: Megan Fox/ PASSION PLAY

Worst Actor: Mickey Rourke/ PASSION PLAY

Worst Screenplay: Mitch Glazer/ PASSION PLAY

Worst Screen Couple/Screen Ensemble (if it's still around): Mickey Rourke & Megan Fox/PASSION PLAY

Do you agree?

All those nominations are good. I'd through Worst Picture, Director, and Supporting for Bill Murray and Kelly Lynch.
When I saw the ending, I started laughing out-loud.

I completely agreed with you on Worst Picture & Director, but I was afraid that it might be to small of a movie to deserve those nominations. As for the supporting actors/actresses I agree that Kelly Lynch and (to a lesser degree) Bill Murray were bad. I also find Rhys Ifans a worthy mention (as the owner of the freak show that abruptly gets shot in the movie). Seems to be another Worst Ensemble-case.
