FROM the WAY THEY HANDLED IT, WARNER BROS APPARENTLY EXPECTED THIS to BE a BIG BOX OFFICE HIT. THEY WERE ABOUT HALF RIGHT, BUT as TRANNIES, TOO's 7 RAZZIE® NOMINATIONS PROVE, JUST 'CAUSE a MOVIE MAKES KINDA BIG BUX DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T SUCK...
AND COP OUT CERTAINLY WAS a DERIVATIVE, REPETITIVE and REDUNDANT COP COMEDY, CARBON-COPIED from the JOKE BOOKS of the 157 OTHER BUDDY/COP COMEDIES THAT HAVE PRECEDED IT. BRUCE WILLIS' TRADE MARK SMIRK DIDN'T WORK HERE, BECAUSE HE's ALREADY OVER-USED IT in 4 DIE HARD MOVIES and ALMOST EVERYTHING HE's EVER BEEN IN. TRACY MORGAN's ROLE as the ENTHUSIASTIC BUT DIM SIDE-KICK WORE THIN AWFULLY FAST. AND SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT's PART as a WILD-EYED DOPEHEAD IS ONE HE COULD DO in HIS SLEEP (as HE ALREADY HAD in at LEAST HALF-a-DOZEN OTHER SIMILAR MOVIES).
WHICH LEAVES US WONDERING: IF the PUBLIC DID EMBRACE COP OUT and MADE IT a BOX OFFICE HIT, DIDTHEY REALIZE THEY WERE JUST ENCOURAGING HOLLYWOOD to MAKE IMITATIONS of THIS OBVIOUS IMITATION of BEVERLY HILLS COP, THUS LITTERING the CINEPLEX LANDSCAPE for YEARS to COME...
...and MORE to the POINT, DOES the PUBLIC EVEN CARE ANYMORE??
MORGAN: "Now, why did somebody graffitti a RAZZIE®
reference on the wall of our set?"
WILLIS: "Maybe my having 4 nominations, and being
their Worst Actor 'winner' 10 years ago has something
Is it just me, or does it seem that buddy cop movies these days are all about throwing two of the most random actors together and seeing what they can do on screen together? Another good example: Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy in "The Man". The genre has been reduced to pair bad@$$ cop with a comedic relief sidekick everyman and ... well, non-funny ensues.
The Four Horsemen of the Moviepocalypse: uncalled for sequels/remakes/reboots, 3-D surcharges, untalented "celebrities", and anything with Michael Bay's name attached to it.
I get the feeling that more people wanna see The Crazies or Shutter Island again this weekend. Others are probably holding out until Alice in Wonderland and Brooklyn's Finest come out. I also have a feeling that they might make a direct reference to Die Hard in this film just as From Paris with Love made a direct reference to Pulp Fiction.
Gee, your choices are either a quality horror movie made by an Oscar winning director and featuring an all-star cast, or a generic zombie movie without zombies, starring nobodies and directed by a nobody. Yeah, what a hard choice! "Shutter Island", please!

Shutter Island isn't as good a movie as you make it out to be. If anything, I can argue the events and the themes presented in Shutter Island have been done many, many, many, many, many, many, many times before. There's a reason it has split critics and audiences alike.
What's this? Negative commentary from moviewizguy? I guess there's a first time for everything! All joking aside, I simply said what I did based on having to choose between "Shutter Island" and "Crazies". Neither is that good or appealing, but "SI" seems the lesser of two "evils."

Directed by Kevin Smith...the same Kevin Smith whom the airlines revoked his ticket for weighing more than 300 lbs?
And I wouldn't worry so much about The Crazies [remake] because it doesn't star anyone we recognize and it's just another horror remake that I daresay we're used to now.
Only a week and a month remain in winter. Should we expect anything good in spring (April 1 - June 30)?
RAZZIE Dirty Dozen: Battlefield Earth, F G Fingered, Pluto Nash, A Sound of Thunder, Alone in the Dark, Dirty Love, Rise Silver Srfr, Daddy Day Camp, IKWKM, The Love Guru, All About Steve, Airbender
Yes, THAT Kevin Smith -- The same Kevin Smith who always seems to manage to get this name out into the news just when his latest movie is being released the next week.
Gee, what are the odds of that happening every time?

Kevin Smith's best-known for making Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. His worst film is Jersey Girl. What are the chances that Cop Out will take that honor this weekend?
I wouldn't say "Jersey Girl" is Kevin Smith's worst -- that's a toss up between it and "Mallrats," although "Mallrats" is more of a guilty pleasure to many. "Chasing Amy" is his best film. But "Cop Out" will no doubt take the honor as his worst movie yet (even though he didn't write it).

Nah. I'd have to go with Chasing Amy. That is his masterpiece. It's a fantastic film!

That's one thing we agree on.

Cop Out and the upcoming Death at a Funeral could give Tracy Morgan a double Worst Supporting Actor nomination next year.
This movie looks like a sure thing for Worst On-Screen Couple. But with movies with casts like "Grown-Ups" and "The Expandables", I think Worst Couple will be changed to Worst Ensemble Cast, because with casts of who's who of Razzie offenders in those movies, giving it to "insert name here and anyone he shared the screen with" is not insulting enough for the epic fail that will be caused by putting those combinations of actors together.
