IF THIS, SHAGGY DOG and SANTA CLAUSE 3 HADN'T GOTTEN TIM ALLEN a NOMINATION for WORST ACTOR of 2006, WE'D HAVE DEMANDED a RECOUNT!  OH, AND 100% of the CRITICS at ROTTEN TOMATOES AGREE: THIS PICTURE RILLY SUX!!

Tim Allen: "See, kids, we Jerry-rigged this film, grafting plot elements and effects from other, more original movies, thus creating a sort of Frankenstein's Monster of a family film..."

UPDATE (11/21/06): ZOOM now ranks #2 on the IMDb's http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom - 100 WORST Movies of All Time list. Here's a http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom - LINK to check out the complete list...

I can see why Fox tried to sue Sony: After seeing the trailer and reading up on this, it does look like a cheap rip-off of X-MEN.

What's next for Tacky Tim?  Santa Clauski, The North Pole?????????

Response from Head RAZZberry: Actually, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452681/ - SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE is due for release on November 3. I just saw a full-length trailer for it at a matinée today, and I must say, it sure LOOKS like a RAZZIE Contender: Martin Short as Jack Frost looks like he may be even more deserving of a nod than Tim Allen -- Only question is, will Short's character belong in Worst Actor or Worst Supporting Actor? According to the IMDb,  Ann-Margret is also in it, but was nowhere to be seen in the promo...hmmm...

Seeing the trailer got me to wondering: Why on Earth did they make a THIRD entry in this series? I thought I remembered that SANTA CLAUSE 2 had bombed (I do remember it SUCKED!). Then I went to check on B.O. MoJo, and found out that the first SANTA CLAUSE made http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=santaclause.htm - $144 million domestic, and the second... http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=santaclause2.htm - $139 million . Maybe move-goers' willingness to go see crap like this is at least partly to blame for Hollywood churning out one drecky sequel after another??

The saddest thing about Tim Allen is that he can't seem to find any good movie to do. Whenever I watch the two TOY STORY movies, they just remind me how good he once was...

Response from Head RAZZberry: Well, the daze when Tim Allen made anything worthwhile seem to be over -- Among his up-coming projects is something set to start shooting next March entitled http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385774/ - IN THE PINK , in which he and Cher are apparently set to play the parents of...Britney Spears. According to The IMDb, Bette Midler is also set to appear in it...

Yeah, seriously, Tim should stick to voice-over work.

Wait, only Fox sued? Geez, it's probably full of so many other unoriginal ideas, why doesn't the entire film industry sue?

Oh My Freakin' God !!!! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/zoom/ - ZOOM  is sitting at a all time low of ZERO% over at Rotten Tomatoes. RAZZ, I think you may have found the movie you've been waiting to nail Tim On. Shaggy Dog looks like Gone with the Wind compared to this!!!

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/zoom/gallery.php?page=2&size=lores&nopop=1">Zoom Movie Stills: Tim Allen, Courteney Cox, Rip Torn, Peter Hewitt

Response from Head RAZZberry: The only other film in recent memory to score a ZERO on RT was Roberto Benigni's http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1119026-pinocchio/ - PINOCCHIO , which went on to take 6 RAZZIE® nominations (including Worst Picture) and "won" Worst Actor of 2002 for Benigni...

Well, right now Tim Allen seems to be in a pretty close race with Rob Schneider (for his horrid performance in "Benchwarmers"). I have a feeling it will be very hard for Razzie members to decide whom to vote for, at least in the Worst Actor category! Clearly, no one person's awful performance really stands out!!!

You're not going to believe this, but I just checked http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/zoom/ - RT  to see  any more reviews of ZOOM. Not only have there been no additional reviews to the 20 posted on Friday...one was retracted. Now it's down to 19 (Still at 0% approval). I guess this movie was so bad, at least one critic did not want his or her name associated with it in any way...

UPDATE: 2 more reviews...and still a whopping 0% percent! Can somebody ple-e-e-e-e-ase put this film out of its misery!!! As  of this writing, this movie has accumulated a total net box office of  http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=zoom.htm - $5,702,372 . It may just beat out "BI-2" as worst overall B.O. of 2006. I am pretty sure it already beats out "BI-2" on per screen average!

Response from Head RAZZberry: Actually, Sharon (sank-like-a) Stone's sequel had a total take of $5,851,188, so ZOOM (which is still averaging $500,000+ per day) will pass BI-2 some time in the next few daze.  On a daily/per-screen basis, BI-2 may have set an all-time record low: It was down to just $74 per theatre (meaning 10 tickets or less per day) before they stopped tracking it on April 16, 2006. Here's a http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=basicinstinct2.htm - LINK for BI-2's accumulated B.O. broken down into daily numbers...

Oh oh, Tim also has co-writer credit, which means a possible double Razzie!
According to an interview, Tim was peddling the movie almost three years ago as a "Galaxy Quest" like movie.  There were  many rewrites due to alleged copyright infingement.  The producers of "X-Men" according to Tim;  "didn't understand what parody meant",  and Tim said "he couldn't do certain things like wear an eyepatch".
I was impressed by what Tim Allen said about superheros;, "just what do they do?, hang around the superhero firehouse waiting for a train to derail?".    Sounds to me like he was being satirical, but what if the movie isn't seen like that?   Galaxy Quest was good, and he was good as well, but unless you were a Trekkie, you didn't "get" all the inside jokes.
We'll just have to wait and see the movie.

Posted By: ITbeast
Date Posted: February 13 2007 at 4:33am

Personally, I think the writer was just plain LAZZZYYY and did not want to put an effort into the script and just said, "Oh Well!". RAZZ, what I do not understand is how ZOOM managed to escape the wrath of the Razzies!!! (With the one exception with the Nod to Tim Allen, and actually that is a 1/3rd Nod because he is sharing it with with his other 2 achievements for this year) Tim did not screw this up by himself, he had help from the supporting cast (Chevy Chase and half the kids), Plus the creativity department (Writer, director, etc..). I am still shacking my head how it escaped, it has RAZZIE written all over it (It did not even make the preliminary ballot!!!). Whats up with that!. Anyways I guess I am just cranky because my Wife and Kids (Again, no relation to the canceled T.V. Show) are making me pick it up at Fry's today. Pray for ME!!!

Guess it one that we did not vote on I guess Razzing Tim Allen for Zoom along with The Shaggy Dog and The Santa Clause 3 was justice enough yea I am sure with Zoom they won't run out of to many Copies lease you will get one. I also found out that Tim Allen got $12,000,000 for Joe Somebody if that his pay scale per Picture wow that means for The Three Movies that we Razzied him for that means he got $36,000,000 whew guess you can't blame him for doing these Movies.

Just to let you know how fast ZOOM  is selling that when I went to the New Releases Isle at Fry's there was none there. So I went to their main Video Department and asked the guy who worked in that isle. His response was "When did that come out?", He then asked me who was in it and when was it released on Video. After looking it up in his computer it was literally buried in a remote corner of an isle that nobody in their right mind would have ever figured it was their in the first place. He then handed me a copy out of 5 (It looked like the 5 that someone had put out the night before), Anyways I saw it was $20 and handed it back to him. I called my wife that there was no way I was paying $20 for ZOOM (She said fine and would look at Wal-mart or Target to see if it was cheaper). So instead of picking up that &^^$$$#? Garbage I picked up "The Departed" Special Edition instead.

It could have been the director putting it up in a last-ditch effort to get anything good out of it, knowing that unless he's got strong ties to the brass, they're not going to call him again after doing this for a good long while.

I am very surprised that Chevy Chase, who has made many terrible movies, has never gotten a razzie nomination. I think he deserved a long overdue nomination for worst supporting actor in ZOOM. He was worse than Danny Devito, and should have taken Devito's place.

Posted By: wetbandit82
Date Posted: March 18 2007 at 4:47am
Truthfully, I don't really think Chevy really cares much about it anymore.  He seems rather frustrated that they shoehorned him into the wacky guy role every single time, combined with his own acute bad judgement over the years--you can sense a certain degree of bitterness with him whenever he gives interviews--and that they never gave him the chance to do the dramatic bits he wanted to try, so he's resigned to whatever rubbish they toss at him next.

Posted By: wetbandit82

One last bit:  in Chev's recently released authorized biography (meaning several things may be exaggerated), he complains they cut a load of his material out of the theatrical cut without telling him at all (and that's necessarily a bad thing in this case?).  Not surprisingly, he does seem to be thoroughly humiliated by the end result, and it's dismissed in 3 sentences.

Not too much really, but he does say on a related note that he was essentially tricked into Vegas Vacation, that Warners simply had him signed for a general concept, and then worked it into another Griswold flick at the last second behind his back.  He also thinks Terry Semel has a part in the decline of roles offered to him, reportedly stemming from an incident in the early 90s where, as he tells it, Semel took his wife's seat at a reception and flew into a blind "You'll never work in this town again" rage when he pointed this out.  Again, being an authorized biography, it would be best to assume there's some truth to it, although somewhat played up in his favor.

My mistake.  Reading them both over, I'd have to give a slight nod to Eragon; they were at least creative enough to plagarize (and indeed why hasn't Lucas sued them yet?), whereas this was apparently meant specifically to antagonize the audience in revenge for some other film not being watched, and to do so in a way that suggests they only bought a concept back in pitching, fell way behind in planning the real thing, then decided to recoup by filming the first draft in 24 hours.  Seriously, what's the point of having to wait the whole picture for the villain to come out and face him.  You'd still get the same results if he'd popped right out after the credits and at least acted like he was tearing up the country.  Plus, Chevy probably would have fit the lead better than Allen, since he has, as I've noted on this thread before, a genuine cause for grudgery that would have helped the portrayal better.  It would at least have been an improvement over a role that does nothing and becomes the punching bag from everyone else.

I wish Chevy Chase hadn't been in the movie. Not that I don't like him. But I hate when characters are the target of all the bad things (like ALAN from TWO AND A HALF MEN and TOM ANDERSON from BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD) and we're expected to laugh at such cruelty.

The directing was so bad. If they couldn't affort to show Spencer Breslin's stomach, use the money you spent on other unnecesary stuff.

I really thought things were gonna get better with the final fight. Unfortunately, it only lasted like 2 minutes -- and then the bad guy was forgiven for everything!

I wish they hadn't made this movie, period. Chevy Chase hasn't been funny since the 80s. Superhero parodies usually suck, and this one has to be on top of the pile of those sh*tty movies.

Oh, and Spencer Breslin can't act his way out of a wet paper bag!

Parody, satire, it sucked either way. Now, if you want a good superhero parody, watch "Sky High". It's one of the few times Disney did something right, without marketing the hell out of it and selling it out every way possible.

Time to rip into the worst super-hero movie ever that doesn't involve Bat-nipples, S&M gear as a costume, Samuel L. Jackson as a Nazi, or Dr. Doom using sign language!*

The good:

?

The bad:

Courtney Cox: First off, something nice: I've always considered Cox to be the hottest one on Friends. That kindness out of the way, she's just awful here. The running gag of her constantly falling is especially unfunny!

Chevy Chase: Remember when Chevy was funny? Yeah, those days are long gone!**

Spencer Breslin: Breslin is to child actors as 9/11 conspiracists are to conspiracy theories: the nadir in an already less-than-glorious field.*** Breslin's best role to date was in M. Night Shamwow's terrible, but not as terrible as the movie that preceded it or followed it The Happening. In it, Breslin is shot full of holes shortly before it's revealed that Re-Run is behind all this madness.

The ugly:

Rip Torn: Torn is safe in one respect: non of his movies can be as bad as Freddy Got Fingered. In this, he plays Gen. Larabee, a sadistic and stupid individual. His performance is just painful.

The "script": I put the quote marks in because I highly doubt that someone wrote this down. A monkey sh*tting in a type-writer could do a better job than this!

Tim Allen: 2006 was a dark year for Tim Allen. He had three straight critical and B.O. bombs with The Shaggy Dog, this, and The Santa Clause 3. Allen not winning Worst Actor for those three is like Stanley Kubrick not winning Best Director for 2001... or Dr. Strangelove... or Clockwork Orange... or Barry Lyndon. Man Kubrick got screwed over a lot! To get back on topic, it's a crime!

Next-up: Baby Geniuses!

*That's a reference to the unreleased Fantastic Four movie from the early 90s'.
**OK, Community's a big hit, but his movie career is probably dead.
***If you're wondering why I didn't put Holocaust deniers as the nadir, Holocaust deniers have mixed in with 9/11 truthers. For example, the most cited source in Loose Change (other than Dylan Avery's demented psyche) is a white supremicist rag from David Duke.

Allen not winning Worst Actor for those three is like Stanley Kubrick not winning Best Director for 2001... or Dr. Strangelove... or Clockwork Orange... or Barry Lyndon. Man Kubrick got screwed over a lot! To get back on topic, it's a crime!

1. Attractive actress, poor choice in movie roles ... and men!
2. It's been many years since the time of "Fletch" and the "Vacation" movies ... and it shows.
3. Worst. Child Actor. EVER! How sister Abigail is related to someone as talentless as him is one of Hollywood's greatest mysteries!
4. So right on both accounts.

Maybe Spencer and Abigail are the reincarnations of John Wilkes and Edwin Booth, respectively. To explain, Edwin saved Abraham Lincoln's son and we all know what John did to Lincoln. So, sibling actors who are completely different.

I would have gone with them just being Yin and Yang. One brings hope for child stars, the other brings misery!
