THANKS to SATURNWATCHER for BRINGING OUR ATTENTION to a HILARIOUS CHRISTMAS CAROL PARODY ENTITLED "CHIPMUNKS ROASTING on an OPEN FIRE." HERE's a http://youtube.com/watch?v=N0yyITRyvM4 - LINK to VIEW IT on http://youtube.com/watch?v=N0yyITRyvM4 - YOU TUBE YOURSELF.

MEANWHILE, BACK at OUR FORUM DISCUSSION...

OKAY, SO THEY DID HAVE a HIT CHRISTMAS SONG in the EARLY 60s . BUT IS THAT ANY EXCUSE for PLOPPING THIS GRIEVOUSLY GRATING-LOOKING CHIPMUNK DROPPING on the MOVIE-GOING PUBLIC at HOLIDAY TIME??

WITH JOKES THAT INCLUDE 'THE MUNKS' EATING THEIR OWN BMs, http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=241 - ALVIN LOOKS for ALL the WORLD LIKE an ATTEMPT to ACHIEVE SOMETHING EVEN LESS ENTERTAINING THAN LAST SUMMER's SUPERHERO BUMMER http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=211 - UNDERDOG . IF THAT WAS THEIR DIABOLICAL GOAL, IT SURE LOOKS  LIKE THEY'VE SUCCEEDED.

SO, FEEL FREE to GET YER VOICES into "HIGH GEAR" by SUCKING a LITTLE HELIUM from a BALLOON, CLICK on POST REPLY...and UNLOAD with BOTH BARRELS BELOW...

You know Jason Lee puzzles me. He gave some good performances for Kevin Smith, one of which he won the Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actor for (Chasing Amy), and just when he hits it huge with My Name Is Earl, he has to go and do Underdog, and now this. I blame Scientology (Just kidding).

I don't think Alvin & The Chimpmunks will do well, consider it's going up against I Am Legend with Will Smith...

It's out of consideration for the Best Animated Feature, but another might get cancelled out as well.

http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=awardcentral&j ump=features&id=eooactor08&articleid=VR1117977277

Alvin, Simon and Theodore can cancel their limo's.
Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has concluded that Fox's live action/animation hybrid "Alvin and the Chipmunks," which comes out next week, doesn't qualify in the best animated feature category.

Decision was made by the animated feature screening committee based on the rule that in a qualifying film, "animation must figure in no less than 75 percent of the picture's running time."

Acad recently informed Fox of the decision. As a result, 11 toons are now vying for three potential nominations. Including "Alvin," 12 were originally submitted.

"Alvin" is one of two pics, along with "Beowulf," that observers thought might not qualify. But after considering whether motion capture technique used by helmer Robert Zemeckis in "Beowulf" counts as animation, committee ultimately decided that it does and is considering that pic for a nod.

Makes me think of the phrase "Eat S*** and Die."  Considering this movie and the hideous stars, I wish the latter part of the statement was also true.

The man was able to open a film about a homeless dad at number 1 against a movie about dragons. There's no question it will be number 1.

Response from Head RAZZberry: I assume by "the man" you mean Will Smith, not Jason Lee. If so, I think you've gotten tomsmobr's point discombobulated. I believe he was suggesting I AM LEGEND and not ALVIN would open at #1...

Yea I was thinking that I Am Legend will open at number #1 on December 14th which is when Alvin & The Chipmunks is coming out. I was also thinking that maybe Alvin may do the same as Fat Albert did when it came out in December of 2004

Suddenly, one of my favorite Christmas carol parodies comes to mind:

Chipmunks roasting on an open fire!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=N0yyITRyvM4 - http://youtube.com/watch?v=N0yyITRyvM4

It ranks right up there with: The Restroom Door Said "Gentlemen"

That was pretty bad.  It would have been great, but when Nat 'King' Cole suddenly starts sounding like Rochester, it lost me.

Response from Head RAZZberry: I, too, found the "Chipmunks Roasting" song itself quite funny, but having the ever-elegant (and always well-spoken) Nat "King" Cole sound like an AMOS 'n' ANDY character when he talks was off-putting for me as well...

It's now up to 28%, with 3 of the 6 "cream of the crop" critics giving it a thumbs up, but we've only just begun receiving the reviews on this one.

Given that Ross Bagdasarian Jr. is indeed on board with this after all, one can only assume that at the moment's he's either:

A) Flat Broke

B) Dead Drunk, or

C) Being Blackmailed by Somebody

-------------

Posted By: saturnwatcher
Date Posted: December 13 2007 at 5:27pm

Let's consider those 3 possibilities in turn:

A) Flat Broke: It's been most of 40 years since Dear Old Dad caught lightning in a bottle with that whole "chipmunk" business, and let's face it: The idea really didn't really have legs. The cartoon was popular for a few years, then died.  The annual royalties from the Christmas album these days probably couldn't buy a lunch at McDonalds. Ross jr. hasn't exactly done much on his own, apart from a handful of mostly unsuccessful attempts to milk a few more dollars reintroducing a couple of new generations to The Chipmunks. "Broke" looks like a pretty good possibility...

B) Dead Drunk: I don't know the man. I'm entirely clueless as to his personal habits along these lines, and I'm not anxious to get sued.

C)Being Blackmailed by Somebody: Doggone if I wouldn't love to believe that we could offer that excuse to explain Tim Burton's involvement in Peewee's Big Adventure. Still, I wouldn't presume to understand the mind of your average blackmailer, but if I were going to participate in something of that nature, I'd go after a bigger fish than Ross Bagdasarian Jr., if you get my drift. How much shame can you lay at the doorstep of a person who has spent a lifetime enduring the legacy of being the offspring of the man who created Alvin and the Chipmunks? You could probably actually improve this man's public image if you sold videos of him playing jacks with Osama Bin Laden. I think we have to rule this one out...

Looks like Alvin might finish just above our threshold at 27% at RT. I Am Legend, which roasted the chipmunks at the box-office managed a 60%, just good enough to garner a "fresh" rating.

Wouldn't it be interesting if somebody made a "last man on earth" flick where the man/woman really was the last person on earth? The best movie of that theme, imho, is still The Quiet Earth, a largely forgotten but outstanding 1985 indie from New Zealand. Finding it is a bit difficult since most of the major rental outlets no longer have it on the shelves. I believe it was released on DVD about a year and a half ago.

This made over $45 million over the weekend! I'm so surprised! Also, I Am Legend made about $72 million or something like that. That film was really underwhelming but still satisfying to recommend it. I know Will Smith is a box office grabber but I can't think people would actually see a movie with one person in it...

I was also surprised about The Chipunks doing as well as it did. I thought it would do the same amount as Fat Albert did 3 years ago. And I Am Legend did $76.5 million...

Well done Chipmunks! I watched the shows as a kid, and listened to their Christmas album. Didn't see the movie, though a lot of other (apparently nostalgic) people did!

I take it you thought it would be an action-packed thrill ride. Personally, I thought it worked best as a drama, showing Will Smith go insane. Also, didn't the vampire/mutant/zombie that really hated Will Smith look like Michael Berryman from "The Hills Have Eyes"?

I consider this a good movie. It doesn't rely on jokes related to fart or hittin'someone you know where. And it's message isn't all that new,but it's more than other G-rated live-action movies have.I can assure you parents will laugh too.

Ah, wasn't there a scene in which David ate one of the chipmucks' s***? I know there's was some kind of scene that had to do with s***, which is not G-rated material, my opinion.

I've been putting this off for a while. Time to jump into the annoyingly voiced, poorly CGI'd mess that is Alvin And The Chipmunks! But first, I've added a movie to next month: Friday The 13th V! It's boring, cliched, has non existant gore and, worst of all, no Jason!

The good:

David Cross: He's clearly aware of how terrible the movie's in. He's basically admitted it in an interview.

The bad:

Jason Lee: Seriously, why was he in this? I know that his character is important to the cartoon, but does anyone (little kids in particular) give two sh*ts about this guy? He could have been trimmed-out and noone would have minded! Oh, and his acting sucks!

The script: This script is formulaic and bland. It makes Friday The 13th V look like a Billy Wilder script!!

The ugly:

The voice-acting: Seriously, what was the point of hiring (mildly) well-known actors (Justin Long, Jesse McCartney, and Criminal Mind's Matthew Gray Gubler) when they all sound the same?

The CGI: This is some Carnosaur sh*t right here! The effects are poor and kinda creepy. Especially when...

They eat crap!: You all knew that this was gonna be on here! This scene in the trailer set a sign to all viewers what kind of movie that they were gonna be watching. And yet, it grossed over $200 million dollars! It grossed more than 300!! I have a strong feeling that every single person on here would watch 300 300 times than watch Alvin once!

Well, that's the review. As mentioned in the ugly, this made a lot of money. So much, that a sequel was made! Grade: C-

Next-up: Alvin And The Chipmunks 2!
