It actually looks a little better than their last outing. It is rated R, which many people complained should've been the rating of the first movie (and that Paul Anderson ruined the franchise). But I'm surprised that the movie is only 86 minutes long.

Which tends to suggest that they couldn't find much to put in it, apart from what was deemed necessary. Which could be good or bad, depending on lots of factors.

A lot of huh? actor names in this film. Sometimes a sign that a film will stink.

At least it's rated R, like the earlier Predator and Alien films, so it may not fall into the category of crappy PG-13 films.

I know one name in the film that you guys don't, so that's an advantage for me (although she's no household name): Signourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.

No. Actually it's Reiko Ayleworth, who played Michelle Dessler in seasons 2-5 of my favorite television show "24"

thomsonmg2000, that was a stupid statement of yours saying no named actors make a bad movie. Does it mean that there are some people other than usual Hollywood stars we've already seen before? It offers a chance to let no named actors have a chance to act.

Response from Head RAZZberry: Actually, thomsonmg2000 merely suggested that having only actors most people have never heard of (especially when it's a major studio / wide release) in a film's cast sometimes means it'll stink. Guess we'll find out December 25 who's right.

Somehow, though, I'm already anticipating moviewizguy will "like" it, regardless of its actual merits...

The American Heritage Dictionary's definition:
Requiem |ˈrekwçəm; ˈrâ-| - noun
(also requiem mass)
(esp. in the Roman Catholic Church) a Mass for the repose of the souls of the dead.
• a musical composition setting parts of such a Mass, or of a similar character.
• an act or token of remembrance : he designed the epic as a requiem for his wife.

Yeah, I even liked AVP. Thought it was better than Aliens.

Yes, I said it!

I posted this at a RT Thread, but i thought it could have some merit here as well:

This new one looks promising, the predators look like the predators I know of, and so do the Aliens. The predators even make the same sound when they go into their vision mode, total plus.

And to all the haters of this movie, just keep this in mind:

1. Paul Anderson is not affiliated with this project
2. This movie is rated R, and from what i can tell, they use it.
3. Paul Anderson is not affiliated with this project
4. The Predators are not complete wusses in this film (At least from what I can tell)
5. The Aliens don't resemble dog like creatures.
6. Paul Anderson is not affiliated with this project
7. It can't get any worse than AVP1

So in conclusion, this movie wins by default. Of course I could be wrong, I originally thought Resident Evil 2 couldn't be worse than RE1, and I was dead wrong. But here's to hoping.

I would expect this movie to be on this forum. Though, it's now rated R unlike its predecessor.

Gosh, was this a let down! The first movie was better (of course). This movie was shot entirely too dark. You can't see what's going on (including the pred-alien vs. the predator). Still, it was decent as a body count movie. The first had a better story than just killing people, you know?

The fact that this movie even managed to get made is solid proof that Hollywood is completely out of ideas. Both of these licenses were beaten to death individually, then they tried to squeeze blood out of the dry turnip one last time with the cage match nobody asked for or wanted to see. Now, their baaaaaaack! Is it too much to ask that somebody TRY something new? Are they afraid it might make less money? Somehow that seems unlikely, in this instance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_vs._Predator_%28comic_book%29 - The original AvP was a graphic novel , and it was a terrific idea actually.  A group of humans colonize a planet that becomes infested with aliens.  Then a bunch of young predators show up.  Apparently, the predators used the planet as a training ground for its children, and they first drop off alien eggs, and then drop off their children and let them hunt, fend for themselves and hone their survival skills.  The humans become caught in the crossfire.

Too bad neither of the inferior movies have ever bothered with the original premise.

This kind of redundant, pandering CRAP is exactly why we now have  "Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie" as a new Razzie category for 2007.

Just how dumb does Hollywood think we moviegoers are???

AVP3 anyone ?, I guess the makers of this lame series are still pissed off they did not win a Razzie for the 1st two and are looking to try again, read this http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/alien_vs_predator/news/1657796/ - link to find out more.

I'll probably buy the 2-Disc unrated extreme edition for AvP-R, too. I guess if you watch this movie as a forgettable fright flick, it's good...

I'll tell you what, If I can get myself loaded enough on beer and hard liqour, you could get me to believe that this movie was as good as Ben Hur and 2001, billed as "Double Feature" played side-by-side at a Classic Movie Convention on "The Art of Artistic Expression"!

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: I know it may be considered blasphemous in some movie-loving circles, but I've always found BEN-HUR (except for the chariot race sequence) to be One of the Most Boring Movies Ever Made -- and certainly one of the least repeat-watchable Best Picture winners in Oscar® history...

You're not alone.

Also, AVPR was bad. Shocking, right?

I've always felt that way about the Ten Commandments. Sure, it's attention getting and kitchy, but it doesn't deserve the all time respect that an Oscar winner deserves.

Just saw this. Of all the "Alien" and "Predator" movies, this one's the worst! The main reason I hated it was its vicious sadism: First, a Xenomorph pops out of a little kid. Then, the Predalien finds a room full of babies. They don't show him eating them (thankfully), but it's still tasteless. Then he finds a room full of pregnant women, and I'm not even going to describe that. I will say this; the Predator was pretty cool, and the Xenomorphs are still badass. Unfortunately, the Predalien was just stupid and fake-looking...

Been putting this one off for a while. I didn't hate the first AVP that much, but this one was much worse.

The good:

The aliens: The aliens in this are handled well.

The predators: One thing this has on the first AVP; the predators handle themselves well. Considering how anti-climatic the first two predators in that was, that's not saying much.

The bad:

The humans: Why do they keep putting annoying human characters in sci-fi that have much more interesting non-human characters? If you have to put humans in, make them soldiers! All the humans are annoying but most annoying is...

Kristen Hager: She plays the bosomy, brainless, blonde love interest. She immensly annoying, but the film-makers had the sense to kill her off towards the end.

The predalien: The predalien is one of the dumbest creatures ever committed to celluloid. Not to mention, most of the worst scenes involve this dud of an FX creation.

The ugly:

Greg & Colin Strause: They directed this and Skyline. Can we get aliens to abduct them for defaming their names?

Sadism: Aliens popping out of little kids! Babies getting eaten by the predalien! And, of course, the pregnant lady scene! Screenwriter Shane Salerno must have had a rough childhood!

The lighting: To say that the lighting is bad is like saying that Mt. Everast is tall: a major understatement. It almost impossible to see something happen in a couple scenes!

The last AVP game wasn't too bad. Not as good as the ones from the 90s', but a helluva lot better than the films! Grade: D-

Next-up: The Human Centipede!
