Isn't David Hasslehoff going to be in "Anaconda 3"? If so, than that would be awfully awesome. What's he gonna do, sing to the anaconda until it strangles itself with it's own tail?
Response from Head RAZZberry: Good New/Bad News -- Here's an http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1137996/ - IMDb LINK to read production info about ANACONDA 3, which will feature David Hasselhoff...but is being produced as a made-for-TV movie (meaning it won't be eligible for RAZZIE® nominations, which both of the previous http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118615/awards - ANACONDA films got).

Wow, one third of the films listed are RAZZIE contenders. I know it's January, but that is one awesomely awful ratio. And that doesn't include The Killing of John Lennon or Running with Arnold, both of which are supposedly cinematic duds. Also, early word on the new Veggietales movie is not good, as this Village Voice http://www.villagevoice.com/film/0802,gonzalez,78800,20.html - review by Ed Gonzalez exemplifies. But Ed always tends to be pretty harsh.

I have found our first Worst Remake or Ripoff contender for 2008: A remake of "Prom Night," coming out April 11. Here's the link to watch the Trailer on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnSORplIKKg - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnSORplIKKg

Moviegoers have already had a really bad month (Jan 2008) so far this year, but they may be up against a really bad weekend (25 Jan 2008) coming up. We're already talking about Rambo and Meet the Spartans, but early word on http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0770810/ - How She Move isn't good, and http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0880578/ - Untraceable features torture as part of the serial killer's M.O.
So, it's possible all four wide released movies may all be poor to bad.

It only has five reviews, one of them by Prairie Miller, who I'm beginning to not be impressed with at all.

Prairie Miller gave good reviews to "Blonde Ambition", "Rush Hour 3", and "Coyote Ugly" and bad reviews to "Atonement" (which, admittedly, was dissapointing), "Eastern Promises" and "There Will Be Blood". However, Miller isn't as bad as Fred Topel who gave good reviews to "Daddy Day Camp", "Gigli" (!), and "Showgirls" and bad reviews to "The Departed", "The Descent", and "300".

Am I the only one who hated 300? I'll admit it's probably better than the Friedberg/Seltzer take on the subject, but is it really as dubious to negatively review 300 as it is to do the same to THE DEPARTED?

I liked 300, but I realize people hate that kind of movie, especially Iranians, whose ancestors are horrible misrepresented (of course, you could say the same about the Spartans being grossly misrepresented, too, for that matter).
However, I can't value the opinion of a critic who thinks trash is gold and gold is trash. As you implied, a negative review of The Departed is out there, unless we're talking about a critic who thinks all films should be wholesome, family films.
And we know Prairie Miller isn't like that, because she gave Showgirls a good review.
So, what can you say about a critic who trashes The Departed and praises Showgirls?

Okay, I'm coming close to being far more right about the four major releases than I thought I would be.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jWFMaRN63A - Untraceable has sunk to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008954-untraceable/ - a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes . HeadRAZZBerry, does this make it 3 movies released this weekend that are up for Razzie consideration?
After reaching an 83% rating with only a few reviews, How She Move plummets to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/how_she_move/ - a 70% rating among all critics and a 67% rating among top critics . I don't feel this will ever sink low enough to be Razzie worthy, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one sinks below 60%.

I didn't mean to defend the critic, whose work I'll admit I'm not
familiar with, it's just that when I the implication that it's
ludicrous to denounce a movie like 300, I fail to be anymore convinced
by whatever point is being made.
And yes, this is an exceptionally lame week for film releases. Here's to hoping it's only because it's January.

Although http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080124/REVIEWS/801240301/-1/REVIEWS01 - Roger Ebert gave Untraceable a good review , its http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008954-untraceable/ - Rotten Tomatoes rating is currently a dismal 14% after 84 reviews. After watching the trailer and reading a few reviews, I get the feeling this is torture porn for the faint of heart.

I've been proven wrong about How She Move. It retains http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/how_she_move/ - its 70% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes after over 50 reviews. It looks like there is a good dance movie at the box office (finally!). However, I don't see it expanding beyond 1500 screens, because http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2008-01-27&p=.htm - its per-screen-average is lower than one would expect it to be.
As far as RT ratings go, however, the same can't be said for Untraceable. After over 80 reviews, it's http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008954-untraceable/ - holding steady at 18% rotten . It's box office, though, is doing well enough.

I really don't know whether to laugh or cry...why would they make a sequel to The Punisher Was there some public outcry for more that I didn't hear of because the 1st was absolute
And Saw V - WTF, is this franchise gonna go on and on like the Potter movies
Can anyone tell me why Hollywood has lost all its creativity and keeps remaking really really bad films (bad-ly), is everyone there brain-numb, hence the lack of originality???

It look like Mike Myers could be returing to our Ballot in 2009 with The Love Guru, which it co-stars two-times Nominated for Worst Actress Jessica Alba. You can view The Trailer at The Offical Site: http://www.theloveguru.com/ - http://www.theloveguru.com/

Jessica Alba is a terrible actress. She will never be in a movie worth watching. The only movie she was in that good to me was "Sin City" and thank goodness her role was not big in that. All she really did was dance with a pole, which is pretty much the only reason why her movies make money in the first place.
I do believe "Jumper" is a good contender, that movie was not all that great.
I did not see, but is Untraceable in pink. That movie was very disappointing as well.
Wait, Anaconda 3 with David Hasselhoff! Wow!! Talk about a movie- lover's nightmare (it is definitely mine)

Speaking of Worst of the Weak, I smell a bonus WotW in College Road Trip.
It stars "Big Momma" Martin Lawrence (and also has a cast that includes Donny Osmond) and has an early critic rating of 00% at Rotten Tomatoes, based on 11 reviews.
Even the title is misleading. "College Road Trip" makes you think of a bunch of college students having adventures on the road. However, this movie involves a father and a daughter taking a road trip to pick out colleges! Perhaps it should be called "College Choosing Road Trip."
And since when is Lawrence in a film that isn't rated R, let alone G?

Sue me, I'm actually looking forward to Doomsday. It has Bob Hoskins, who is almost always good ( I still feel he was a "Guilty by association" razzie nominee for Son of the Mask), and Malcolm McDowell as a bad guy. (At least I think he's playing a bad guy). I think they both should have been nominated for Oscars: Hoskins for The Long Good Friday, and McDowell for A Clockwork Orange. ( And before anyone corrects me, I know Hoskins was a Best Actor nominee for Mona Lisa, come to think of it, I was kind of surprised that he didn't get nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Mrs. Henderson Presents)

Just saw Doomsday and enjoyed it. The acting was strong for a horror movie thanks to good performances from Malcolm McDowell ( I'd have liked for there to have been more of his character in the movie, as he only shows up briefly near the end.) and especially Bob Hoskins. Both did a good job with their roles. One thing I found interesting was the number of things that reminded me of Apocalypse Now. McDowell's domain had human skulls on the outside, and when you first see him, he speaks from a shadowy area like Col. Kurtz. Of course it could be a coincidence. Anyway, it's a better horror film than almost every horror film I saw last year.

I wonder if the Writers Strike is the reason why we have WWAAAAYY too many movies coming out during the first part of this year? I recall the studios did stockpile a bunch of scripts before the strike. Still, can't they just sit on them for a few years and slowly dole them out, or do they have just a certain amount of time to make the film?
In any case, the box office per movie is down, and it's not just because there's way too many movies that stink (so many, that even the Razzie list has gotten particular, or else http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/strange_wilderness/ - Strange Wilderness , http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008954-untraceable/ - Untraceable and http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/college_road_trip/ - College Road Trip would be in contention, and I still feel they should be). Even the good and popular http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cloverfield/ - Cloverfield has yet to break $80 million, let alone $100 million--it lost money. http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2568&PN=1 - Horton Hears A Who! is the first actual good hit movie this year (I thought it was a shoo-in for a Razzie nomination before it came out, too, based on what I saw beforehand--I was wrong).
One additional note: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2008&p=.htm - As this year's box office stands today , four movies in Razzie consideration are among the top ten GROSS, er, best-grossing movies this year - http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2546&PN=1 - 10,000 B.C. , http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=259 - Jumper , http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2434&PN=1 - 27 Dresses and http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2500&PN=1 - Fool's Gold . Two other movies among the current top ten have done as poorly if not worse among the critics at Rotten Tomatoes as these movies -- http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/vantage_point/ - Vantage Point and http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/step_up_2_the_streets/ - Step Up 2 The Street .
Opinion--although the quality of movies this year is nowhere near as bad as the worst movies of 2006, it seems we've hit a dead spot in the cinematic ocean this year.
The silver lining -- all these movies coming out are preventing http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0093051/ - 5 Uwe Boll films made during 2007 and 2008 from reaching the silver screen -- Postal, They Wait, Seed, Far Cry and Tunnel Rats.

One of my favorite books of recent vintage is John Grogan's wonderful story about a family and their misbehaved but loveable dog, Marley. The book is Marley and Me.
The movie is wrapping up filming, and is set for release Christmas Day of this year. It will star Owen Wilson (who's newsworthy life events slowed production) and Jennifer Aniston, which is reason enough to keep this one in our sights. I sincerely hope I'm wrong about this one, but the casting alone sends out the distinct aroma of raspberries. I definitely think we need to keep an eye on this one. Besides, good books often spawn really awful movies.

So, does MGM once again postponing the release of "Valkyrie" (this time from Summer '08 to February '09 - http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080408/lf_nm_life/cruise_life_dc_1 - LINK ) mean that Stallone now has this year's Worst Actor race all to himself? For those not familiar with it, Expelled is a "documentary" essentially espousing the right wing, Bible thumping view that the answer to any question that science has not been able to answer, or at least answer to their satisfaction (usually the case) is reasonably (and by default) attributable to the existance of an entirely unproven, omnipotent supernatural entity. This view is similar to the belief among numerous people that if you look into the sky and see an object that you personally can not identify as a bird, plane or superman, it must naturally be a spacecraft of alien design and operation. Obviously, a signficant range of alternate possibilities is being convieniently excluded. Ignored by this documentary, which attempts to paint "big science" with the charge that opposition views are systematically excluded, is the fact that the current administration has routinely and as a matter of policy, worked to supress legitimate scientific research.
I don't know if the Christian, or anyone else's God exists or not. Science, by and large is less interested in whys than hows; in effect, it is the job of science to discover the processes of the almighty, if one exists, rather than said existance. Most Bible thumpers are perfectly willing to simply accept everything as a miracle. That kind of thinking would never have permitted us to advance far from the lot of our ancestors who huddled in caves waiting to be picked off by Sabre toothed tigers.
The right wing zealots are perfectly willing to accept the products of science, but routinely reject both its methods and findings which they find uncomfortable. That is why you hear brilliant minds like Rush Limbaugh et al frequently attack evolution and global warming, in oppostion to pretty much every PhD on the planet. Curious how people who haven't taken a legitimate science course since high school and haven't actually passed one since even further back can influence so many people when commenting on a field where they have zero expertise. It is a frustrating situation.
Expelled will probably do extremely well at the box-office, at least in this country, making the task of science all the more difficult, and leading a nation that is already dangerously scientifically illiterate further down a very perilous path. The scientific ignorance of our general population is threatening to cause us to become little more than a third world technological nation. I note further the dire warning the late Dr. Carl Sagan left us: In a world increasingly dependent on the products of science and technology, entrusting the knowledge of science and technology into the hands of fewer and fewer is a prescription for disaster.
ADDENDUM: Expelled is currently at 9% at RT...well within our sights, so at least movie reviewers aren't buying into Ben Stein's effort to influence scientific debate by injecting bankrupt political dogma. Personally, I don't think that a guy who is known mostly to the public as Ferris Buehler's teacher and a game show foil (although he did serve for a few undistinguished years in Congress) has any more business jumping into scientific debates than most of the nation's radio talk show hosts.

Mea Culpa: Evidently I was errant in noting that Ben Stein has served in Congress. However, he did serve for a time as an attorney for the FTC, and as a speechwriter for Richard Nixon. He has spent his entire life close to Washington inner circles, mostly thanks to his father, a noted economist and author. Were Stein to offer us opinions on matters of economics or law, fields in which I would not dispute his expertise, I'd be fully willing to be entertained by his opinions. However, in this documentary, Stein is entirely outside of a realm where he has legitimate credentials to speak, beyond largely dubiously informed opinion.

You know, I could see a documentary that showed both sides of the "intelligence design" debate, and which showed the things that go on behind both sides. But Expelled seems just one-sided, ham-fisted and dishonest in its representation of how its own proponents behave, let alone what the opponents side actually says.
I'll give Expressed this much; at least it claims to be a documentary. Last year, September Dawn took what should have been a documentary, and made a ham-fisted, awful drama about the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Ah, man, Zombie Strippers isn't playing in my area. Thanks for the link, HeadRAZZ. My favorite review comes from Luke Y. Thompson of the Village Voice . . .
"A consistently hilarious, brutal, and titillating mash-up of Return of the Living Dead and Showgirls that actually beats out Mark Pirro's Nudist Colony of the Dead for the unofficial title of best naked zombie movie ever."
Now, THAT'S a good, dumb movie.
I like Brian Orndorf's review, too, but I'm not going to reprint that here! . . .

Precisely, and the question of "intelligent design" (and by most reasonable measures, humans are not particularly intelligently designed) is not a scientific question by definition. The idea fails on the principle of falsifyability, among other issues. Stein is not advancing a scientific argument in this documentary, as Al Gore did in An Inconvienent Truth, and Gore's mistakes and overstatements were pointed out by the scientific community. Stein is simply criticizing the scientific community for failing to give credence to a non scientific idea for which there is not one iota of reasonable evidence...

Naturally, we spend most of our time here talking about bad movies, but an outstanding new documentary was released this week that may already contend for honors as the year's best.
First Saturday in May provides a fascinating behind the scenes look at the difficult path for thoroughbreds and their trainers to reach the Kentucky Derby. Even those not particularly interested in horse racing will probably find this film interesting and entertaining.
Better still, 25% of the film's opening week proceeds are being donated to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, which promotes equine health research funding. Unfortunately, this film is still in limited release, but it should be showing up in art house and university theaters nationwide in the next few weeks.

Certainly on lists of that nature there is a lot of room for debate, and my biggest objection is that there seems to be a significant overrepresenation of post 1980 films. On the whole, it isn't a terrible list...BUT... Borat???????? I may get flamed for this, but I personally think that was one of the worst and most grossly overrated movies I've seen in the last ten years. And how do you create a list of 300 "must see" movies without a single Chaplin film on the list?

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0490086/ - Big Stan directed by Rob Schneider? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movies/opening.php - Is that being released this week? I'm wondering about either http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008692-deal/ - Deal starring Burt Reynolds or croc horror retread http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1173563-rogue/ - Rogue . I'm guessing Rogue.
If this keeps up, HeadRAZZBerry may have to bring back last year's special category, Worst Excuse For A Horror Movie. If Rogue becomes this week's pick, I count 6 horror movies in consideration. We'll just need 6 more after that. Think we'll make it?

I know we have more than enough movies to vote on, and the top awards are pretty clear at this point (and the year isn't half over!), but although Deal is so obviously bad we must consider it, please don't overlook http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/tourist/ - Deception . The reviews for Deception are rolling in, and they're almost all bad. One movie critic who likes way too many movies is Prarie Miller, and even she dumps on this movie. One of my favorite critics is Willie Waffle, and he's comparing Deception to Basic Instinct 2 (?!).

So far for the weekend of May 2nd I have a feeling that "Made of Honor" maybe the pick for worst New Movie of the Week. Has all the classic signs...Not screened for critics, the entire plot lifted from previous works (In this case Julia Roberts "My Best Friends Wedding"), and very little pre-release info promoting the movie. Sure smells like a stinker to me .

Let's see, if I read the reviews and the synopses correctly, we have http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/xxy/#synopsis - a film about a hermaphrodite coming of age , http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10007814-10007814-mister_lonely/#synopsis - a film about a Michael Jackson impersonator following a Marilyn Monroe impersonator to a colony of impersonators , http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10008741-redbelt/#synopsis - a mishmash of The Quiet Man and Rocky cast in jujitsu , and http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/son_of_rambow/#synopsis - a story of what happens when a little boy gets ahold of a copy of Rambo: First Blood . However, these are actually the good movies. . . .

Just saw "Iron Man". Calling it amazing would be an understatement. Robert Downey, Jr. was magnificent. He nailed the role perfectly. Terence Howard has redeemed himself for all those crappy movies from last year. Jeff Bridges had a nice gusto as the villian. Gwneth Paltrow, who I expected to be the weak link, was great. The main reason I liked it was that under all that armor, Iron Man had a brain. Also, everyone should stay until the credits are over. There's a cameo from a famous face, which promises an Avengers movie.

I'm seeing Iron Man tomorrow. They actually had a brilliant idea, cast someone who's a really good actor as the lead (What a concept!). I've liked Jeff Bridges in the two films I've seen him in (The Big Lebowski and Seabiscut) but I wasn't sure how he'd do as a villain. Good to hear he nailed it. I'd actually like to see Michael Keaton play a comic book villain. He got some of the best reviews of his career for The Company. Plus it'd be cool seeing my generation's Batman switch sides...

No! The one time I don't stay after the end credits, and there's an extra scene! ARGH!
Iron Man was a great movie, and it's all because of Robert Downey, Jr. Mind you, Jeff Bridges, Terence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow were great, too, as well as Shaun Toub (who has appeared in quite a few things, including Crash), and Faran Tahir. I read Kenneth Turan's review in the L.A. Times before seeing it, and I expected a disjointed movie, but it didn't feel that way at all. Downey was brilliant. Not even the special effects got in the way of his performance.
Favorite scene: when he first tests the foot thrusters. That was funny.

The promos for Mike Myers' Love Guru actually look funny, but its "tracking numbers" are in the toilet. Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart looks really stale, yet it might be a hit. http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2713&PN=1 - As thomsonmg2000 pointed out over at the Postal thread , there's another klunker of a satire being released next weekend (23 May 2008) that perhaps warrants our attention - War, Inc., a John Cusack film which most critics complain that it has way too many things going on to be any good. I mean, even Prairie Miller puts this one down. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/war_inc/ - Here's a link to the Rotten Tomatoes page .
Speaking of major stars making major mistakes, and also since Strange Wilderness made this year's consideration list, may I also point out another worthy previous release, Deception, one more time? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/tourist/ - Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is now down to 12% , despite starring Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman. Prairie Miller also pans this one. Stephen Cole of the Globe and Mail describes this as "an accountant's sex fantasy. . .", a phrase which should tell you that, despite the reportedly best efforts of all involved, this so-called thriller is dull.

Oh my god, "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull" was amazing. Not as good as "Iron Man", but still amazing. Harrison Ford can still kick some ass. Cate Blancett shows that she can do a summer movie. And Shia Labeouf is here to stay. There's but one complaint, and it's nothing to do with the movie: after the First Look thing the screen went blank and there was a recording of an Icelandic singer (?) playing. After some patrons bitched about it, the previews started.

I'm a bit behind, I finally saw Iron Man last week and thought it was awesome. It was well acted by everyone (Especially Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges), and wasn't overly sentimental, unlike the last Spider-Man and X-Men films. Plus it gave you a hero who wasn't a complete moron.
While we're on the subject of the new Indiana Jones film (Which I haven't seen yet), I wanted to ask: SchumacherH8ter, how was Ray Winstone in it? After seeing him in Sexy Beast, The Departed, The Proposition, and even Beowulf, he's one of my favorite actors.

Ray didn't have much of a role. He was good in his scenes. His allegiance kept changing. First he doublecrosses Indy. Then, he doublecrossed the Russians. Then at the end, I'm not sure where his allegiance was. Also, is there any chance of the "Sex And The City Movie" getting Worst New Movie of the Weak. I hated the show and the movie looks worse.

I'm guessing it will be You Don't Mess with the Zohan, although I found the trailer to be alternatingly hilarious and tongue-in-cheek. However, it seems we may have two other contenders.
How about Heather Graham in a "comedy" about a woman whose biological clock is ticking so hard, she must have a baby? Oh, we haven't seen this plot before, have we? I don't know if it will show in Los Angeles and New York to qualify, but http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10009744-miss_conception/ - Miss Conception sounds like a stinker .
And how about a major director who takes a bazillion years to make the third movie of his trilogy? No, I'm not talking about Godfather III part 2. . . . Many people celebrate Dario Argento's Suspiria (although, honestly, I thought it was at best well-filmed but enjoyably dumb), and Inferno was the second in the trilogy. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1189181-1189181-mother_of_tears/ - Mother of Tears is the third , and based on the reviews, it is also well-filmed but enjoyably dumb. Feel free to bash me for that opinion, I know I'm in the minority when it comes to Argento.

Hey, let's think about adding in My Best Friend's Girl. I haven't seen
the trailer, but knowing that that Woody Allen impersonator Jason Biggs
is in it, and the film title sounds like My Best Friend's Wedding, that
could be a consideration.
However, one movie that might look like a potential sh*tter is Adam Sandler's second movie of the year, Bedtime Stories.
Not only is it his first foray into family films, but it's directed by
Adam Shankman and being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. While it
may leave out Disney teenage poison like Raven-Symone or Miley Cyrus
(she should be in trouble for posing nude; she's fugly!, the fact that
the team that brought you The Pacifier is behind this gives one pause. Think about all that I said before bashing Zohan, because that movie looks genuinely entertaining compared to his first family film!
Don't get too overhyped about W being a Razzie film. Oliver Stone regained some dignity after Nicolas Cage's last decent film, World Trade Center. And Josh Brolin was in No Country for Old Man, so you can't really piss on him.
Here's some other potential crap films coming soon:
* 17 Again (I don't believe what I'm seeing. Michelle Trachenburg, fresh off her great performance as Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl,
isappearing with Matthew Perry and Zac Efron in a film distributed by
Disney even? Heaven help us. The Mouse House ain't what it used to be,
it's catering to zero-minded pre-teens who love Efron's abs.)
* Big Stan (As a steadfast fan of Rob Schneider, this is way underneath him. And a film like this doesn't take too long to get out there.)
* Death Race (Maybe it's
because of my hate for that I'm-Better-Than-You f**khead Tom Cruise -
unless you count his last productorial mess that was The Eye, which everyone hated - I'm not too excited. Wasn't Dungeon Siege bad enough for you, Jason Statham?)
* Disaster Movie (Jason
Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are back for round 2 this year. Basically
more tired Britney Spears jokes, tasteless humor, and MADtv
members sullying whatever talent they got. I don't know if I should
laugh or cry that these guys are getting work. Actually, I could give a
f**k, like anyone's gonna see it.)
* Far Cry (I don't know if
that's gonna come out this year. I bet it'll be pushed back in a snap.
Otherwise, it'll join Uwe Boll's previous two films as Razzie catnip.
Who gives this man work?)
* Foodfight! (I'm with the majority here that Hillary Duff should quit
acting. Get this, she's the love interest for Charlie Sheen's
character, even if it's animated. Creepy, huh?)
* Get Smart (Oh, this looks
painful. Not really, but it ain't that funny. Carrell's resting on his
Look-At-How-Witty-And-Clever-I-Am persona that makes one puke. And I'm
not a big fan of Anne Hathaway, unless she does a comic book film.)
* High School Musical: Senior Year
(Are you f**king kidding me? Is this overrated franchise still
existing? Aside from Ashley Tisdale, who I can often stomach [hopefully
there's a comic book film in her future], I could beat myself over the
head as to how Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are popular. Hell, neither
of them can act out of a paper bag. Stick with the infinitely superior Superbad.)
* Lakeview Terrace (Neil "Wicker Man" Labute is back. Now with Samuel L. Jackson in his holster.)
* Major Movie Star (Jessica Simpson's last shred of integrety will go out the window after this, though I'm betting DTV.)
* Marley & Me (I'm a
sucker for cute puppies at times. But something about this film might
push the cuteness factor to unbearability. And the trailer suggests it
as a comedy with the tune from Clash of the Titans. Meanwhile, the book
was more sentimental. So, count me out. I guess Owen Wilson's suicidal
attempts put a crimp in his choice of movies.)
* Max Payne (Unless Mark
Wahlberg can add anything to the proceedings, this looks like a film
that could join any Uwe Boll film as the worst video game adaptation
released. Basically, it's directed by the man who bestowed the lousy Omen remake back in 06, John Moore. Not only that, but I fear Mila Kunis, fresh from her decent turn in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, might revert back to her Ellen Page-esque indication acting from That 70's Show. Ludacris.)
* Meet Dave (It may be up in
the air, because nothing looks too offensive, and I don't see Murphy in
drag. We'll wait until July for the consensus.)
* Punisher: War Zone (Did we
even ask for a sequel. Even if it's not literally one, something about
it screams direct-to-video. And there's not alot of hype compared to The Incredible Hulk. Marvel's going back to comic book movie hell.)
* Righteous Kill (From the "talented" director of the 88 Minutes comes the second collaboration with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Also costarring the star of the "award-winning" Home of the Brave, Curtis Jackson. Think of everything I said as the opposite, and you've basically get the point.)
* Saw V (I don't see the hype
of this film. It's just an excuse for talented or hack actors to scream
and overact, as well as body parts to get ripped apart.)
* Wanted (I'm not too
aggravated by Angelina Jolie too much as I am with Tom Cruise, but even
for a return to action, which she does best at times, this looks too
over-the-top, even for a comic book film of this nature.)

1. I saw the trailer to "Meet Dave" (which by the way, was originally titled "Starship Dave"). This trailer made me want to yank my eyeballs out of my sockets. But I didn't because that would have meant the trailer would have been the last thing I would ever see. "Beverly Hills Cop 4", please, the third one was what made his career jump, no, sky rocket over the shark. He's a has-been who should just stick to doing the voice of Donkey from "Shrek".
2. A movie with such a "talented" cast as Carmen Electra, Vannessa Minnillo, Kim Kardashian, and Dane Cook. Wow! Four people, none of whom have starred in a good movie. Where do I sign up to waste $10 and 90 minutes of my life on that one?! Gee, one is famous for starring in all those stupid "(Insert Genre Here) Movie" movies, one is famous is getting Jessica "Simple" Simpson's sloppy seconds, and one is famous for a sex tape, which apparently makes her worthy of getting a "reality" series (me sitting here on the computer typing this is more real than that series, or any reality series for that matter). And Dane Cook ... I'm sorry, what is famous for again? He has a popular MySpace page with a list of friends all of whom have one-digit IQs, thus they find him funny? Again, wow!

I'm just curious if anyone has any thoughts on the upcoming movie adaptation of Momma Mia. The play was a pretty big hit in Europe, but less well received on the whole by American audiences. Everyone I know who saw it thought it was dreadful. The thought from this corner is that we may be seeing Sgt Pepper Abba style, but if anyone would like to jump in for the defense, I would be interested in your opinions.

I mentioned this one a few weeks ago. The book is marvelous, but anything that teams Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston has got to raise a red flag. And as we are all aware, there is usually a pronounced, inverse relationship between the entertainment value of a book and the movie it spawns.

Just got back from "The Incredible Hulk". It was awesome. Tim Roth stole the entire show as the Abomination. Edward Norton and William Hurt were good and Liv Tyler was decent. Tim Blake Nelson had a few comic relief moments, but he's important because he'll become The Leader in the future. (They show his head growing to look like The Leader's). Also, of notice was Ty Burrell. He'll become Doc Samson, Hulk's psychiatrist/ally/villian. Robert Downey, Jr. showed up towards the end as Tony Stark. There's more talk of the "Avengers" movie. Also, I've been using a Regal Card for the past few months, and apparantly, I've seen so many movies, I get a free pass!

The Incredible Hulk is a good movie, a far better movie than The Hulk. I like the fact that they didn't try to redo the first movie, but instead moved forward in time. I liked Liv Tyler, and I liked her performance, especially since she did a lot with a nothing part, but I found I kept wanting to see Jennifer Connelly.
There were several nods to the TV series in the movie. You'll see Ed Norton watching the late Bill Bixby (I miss him) in an episode from one of his three hit series, "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", you'll hear the TV series' theme playing while Norton walks the streets in Brazil, and Lou Ferrigno makes a cameo, still as a security guard. And the rampage on the college campus was covered by student journalist Jack McGee. In the series, McGee was a frustrated journalist who covered the Hulk, but was relegated to tabloids because he could never provide any evidence. Nowadays, with so many people with digital cameras and camera phones, that storyline would be difficult to swallow. This time around, McGee will get a break.
Speaking of Bill Bixby's three hit TV series, the other two hit series were "My Favorite Martian" (he plays Uncle Martin's nephew in every episode and no one seems to remember him) and of course "The Incredible Hulk".
