HERE's a GOOD "RULE of DUMB" FORYA: ANY TIME a BIG BUDGET/HIGH PROFILE MOVIE CHANGES ITS TITLE PRIOR to RELEASE, THAT's NOT a SIGN the MOVIE IS "TESTING WELL."

HERE's ANOTHER ONE: ANY TIME a MOVIE TOP-LINES SOMEONE WHO JUST SET a RAZZIE® RECORD by http://www.razzies.com/history/07Winners.asp - "WINNING" THREE WORST AWARDS in a SINGLE YEAR , THAT's ALSO NOT a SIGN IT's GONNA BE ANY GOOD...

AND a THIRD: ANY TIME a MOVIE RE-UNITES a STAR WHOOZ "WON" 3 RECENT RAZZIES® with the http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005367/ - RAZZIEALSO NOT a GOOD SIGN...

BY THESE THREE RULES of DUMB, http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=292 - MEET DAVE (FORMERLY STARSHIP DAVE) COULD BE EDDIE MURPHY's ANSWER to http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=290 - THE LOVE GURU .

BUT TELL ME, DAVE, WHAT DO YOU THINK??

MURPHY: "In the tradition of my RAZZIE® 'winning' performance as Rasputia last year, I wanted to play The Statue of Liberty in MEET DAVE. But the producers refused to be convinced by this audition photo..."

Between this piece of sh*t and "Love Guru", it's proof positive that "Shrek" is the only thing left in the not-so-bright careers of Myers and Murphy.

Every billboard advertising this movie shows Eddie Murphy IN Eddie
Murphy., so would that qualify Eddie for another shot at WORST SCREEN
COUPLE?

We might also want to consider  http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800018551 - Gabrielle Union  for Worst Actress, from what I saw in the trailer...

Yet another movie where Murphy plays multiple roles? Is that a clause in his contract, that he only does movies where he plays more than one character?

As much as I love Gabrielle Union, she should get a nod just for her bad decision making when it comes to choosing what projects to take. She was offered the role of Kate from the TV series "Lost", but she turned it down because the show didn't make sense to her and she thought it would fail within its first season. As we all know, she was WRONG.

So, a TV series about people trapped on an island makes no sense for her, but a movie about tiny aliens that look like humans and that operate inside a robot that looks like Eddie Murphy makes complete sense?

"The Black Dahlia" has good review at first. Then, they went down to the Rotten zone.

The fact that this opens tomorrow and has only ONE review on R.T. (meaning it was obviously not screened in time for reviews to be released before the movie is) clearly tells you what the releasing studio thinks of the film: It's a piece of (starts with SH and ends with IT)...

As already mentioned, not being screened for critics is a sign of worse things to come...Plus, the trailers do not make it look appealing either.

Plus, it's going up against HellBoy 2, which has a bigger following. So that combined with the lack of critics seeing it speaks volumes about how badly it will suck.

With Sylvester Stallone to contend with, I don't think Eddie Murphy has much to worry about Razzie-wise this year.  Based on the trailer, I don't feel this movie will be anywhere near as bad as Norbit.  It looks like just a dumb movie, nothing less (and nothing more) --unfortunately!

Eddie Murphey is usually barely tolerable in one role. I am also mystified as to why he is invariably permitted to play several, unless his production company is too cheap to hire more actors. Based upon the quality of the scripts, the suspicion is that they are also too cheap to hire writers. A team of monkeys banging away at keyboards, sparsely paid in bananas is evidently the norm.

Eddie Murphy has been allowed to do multiple roles ever since The Nutty Professor was so successful.  However, he's failed to capture lightning in a bottle.

This came in 7th place at the box-office. "Hellboy II" was first, "Hancock" was 2, and "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" was 3rd.

"Coming to America" is the only movie I can think of where Eddie Murphy played multiple roles AND was actually funny. But over the past 20 years since that movie was released, his formula of the one-man cast has failed him. I'm glad this movie bombed, I only hope the same will be said for "Disaster Movie".

Interestingly, this crappy movie was written by Bill Corbett (of MST3K fame). Thought he would know a crappy movie when he saw one, but I guess after seeing all the reviews on "Meet Dave," he can always riff on his own movie...

Well, I think I can lock in my 5 choices for WORST ACTOR now:  Eddie
Murphy, MEET DAVE

Mike Myers, THE LOVE GURU

Adam Sandler, ZOHAN

Sylvester Stallone, RAMBLOW

Ben Stein, EXPELLED
Right now, I wonder if anyone else can surpass the
level of awfulness these 5 have already achieved. And we still have half the
year to go... I only wish I could vote for Uwe Boll as WORST ACTOR
based on his You Tube rant!

On Edit--Will Ferrell is just ASKING for it

No doubt Eddie's already looking forward anxiously to the 4th Shrek film Dreamworks has long planned, since voicing the Donkey's pretty much all he's got left (as this clearly evidences).

Below is a http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20080713/121599222000.html - LINK to a whole article about Murphy's career being on life support. The worst news: Murphy is teaming up with the same director of "Norbit" and "Meet Dave" for a THIRD time in a movie about a guy who will die if he speaks one thousands words. I can think of 3 words to go along with those 1,000...and they start with "WTF?!"

Please, after seeing Harlem Nights on cable again, I can guess that 500 of
those last 1,000 words would be the four letter one that starts with "F"

I'm not sure if that would happen. He's become such a "family icon" that he hardly ever swears in his movies. Compare that to "Trading Places," were he swore every five seconds. Also, that movie had a laugh every five seconds...

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: I have always thought there are few things sadder (or more RAZZIE® worthy) than a genuine talent just going through the motions. And (except for DREAMGIRLS) that's exactly what Eddie Murphy has been doing for the last decade or so...

Eddie Murphy's looking to actually defend his title as Worst Actor (has anyone else done that?).  The only real competition he has is Mike Myers.

I'm pretty sure The Sly Guy has won back-to-back, given his track record with the Razzies. But Murphy may soon share that "honor" with him...

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Yes, indeed, Stallone did "win" back-to-back Worst Actor statuettes for in 1984 (RHINESTONE) and 1985 (RAMBO II and ROCKY IV). Our Awl-Time Male Runner Up Kevin Costner  was a RAZZIE Three-pete as Worst Actor during the 1990s, but never "won" back-to-back...

Gee, at this rate, Eddie Murphy might tie or surpass Stallone's all-time record of 10 "wins," and in a matter of only three years!

Why is this the only "Worst on DVD This Week"? There is also Fred
Claus
, Space Chimps, and (arguably)Hancock. It should be a
Quadrifecta this week.

I just watched this from Netflix and it actually was not as bad as I expected it
to be. Granted, it is still not a "good" movie, but it is still generally
competent, with Eddie Murphy doing his usual shtick, and some of it actually
works. In fact, if one found a better director and screenwriter, this actually
could have worked as "good" family entertainment. Still not one of the better
efforts of the year, it doesn't stand a chance against The Love Guru and
Disaster Movie.

"Not as bad as expected"? Did we see the same movie??

I, too, just saw this on a NetFlix DVD, and while it wasn't nearly as painful to sit through as Murphy's all-time worst "Pluto Nash," it still fell flat about 94% of the time, felt mostly forced and unfunny, and had a "plot" about as predictable as a TV sit-com. Not Eddie's worst, but far from being among his best...

Again, I am not praising the movie, I am saying that while it does fall flat most of the time, there are some occasionally clever jokes in the otherwise mediocre material.

When you look at some of the truly awful comedies of 2008, (like Meet the Spartans/Disaster Movie and The Love Guru) Meet Dave, and/or some of Eddie Murphy's other work (like Pluto Nash) Dave does not stand a chance...

Months ago I said this was one of the funniest movies of 2008,and I was crucified by that. After re-watching the movie I don't change my opinion. However,it doesn't mean it was one of the best movies of the year.

This movie really seemed like a family movie based on the simple humour(which was good)and a few plot holes that can only be noticed by critics. However, this movie made the mistake of adding things that made it PG-13.Therefor,this can't be enjoyed by the audience(late teens and adults)because they're not the target.I was lucky that I saw it when I was 17.

I give it 4,5/C-/50%.

Well, that's the critics' job ... and the Razzies'. At least you didn't give it a 4 our of 5 stars or whatnot, like someone else might.
