THE PROBLEM with SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE ALUMNAE WHO BECOME MOVIE STARS IS THIS: WHILE THEY MAY BE HILARIOUS in 3-to-5-MINUTE SKITS, IT's RARE to SUSTAIN THAT LEVEL of COMEDY for 90 MINUTES. ONE of the MORE EXCRUCIATING PROOFS of THIS THEORY IS http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Will+Ferrell&btnG=Search+Razzies.com&domains=razzies.com&sitesearch=razzies.com - WILL FERRELL , WHO WAS LAST EVEN REMOTELY FUNNY as http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357413/ - RON BURGUNDY (FOUR YEARS AGO).

AFTER BOMBING OUT EARLIER THIS YEAR with http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=263 - SEMI-PRO , FERRELL MAY SEAL the DEAL for a 2008 WORST ACTOR NOMINATION with http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=295 - STEP BROTHERS -- A MOVIE SO DIM-WITTED ONE WORRIES THAT ANYONE WHO'D ACTUALLY FIND IT FUNNY MAY NOT HAVE the MENTAL FACULTIES to SAFELY INASERT the DVD into THEIR PLAYER.

ITS ONE SAVING GRACE: THE OTHER STEP BROTHER IS PLAYED by http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000604/ - JOHN C. REILLY , WHO WAS FABULOSULY FUNNY as http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/walk_hard/ - DEWEY COX .

BUT THEN, THIS ONE WAS CO-WRITTEN by FERRELL HIMSELF, WHOSE "TALENT" for "ACTING" (PITIFUL THO IT MAY BE) FAR EXCEEDS HIS "TALENT" for WRITING...

SO, STEP RIGHT UP, FOLKS and LET US KNOW WHATCHOO THINK: IS THIS FUNNY ...OR DOES IT (AS WE THINK) STINK??

FERRELL: "What's that stench -- Did you cut one?"

RILEY: "No, I just opened my script to study my lines..."

I can only echo the sentiment expressed by the Head Raspberry: When is this guy going to go away?

It might be never -- or, worse, maybe there's an underlying cosmic balance in Hollywood that demands the presence of "stars" like him (this generation's Pauly Shore?). He's the nexus for dreck. If he "went away," another would step up to take his place, shovel in hand...

Y'know, this does look to be a little funnier than Semi Pro (at least from the trailer). Maybe its the presence of Mr. Reilly. Yet if it was co-written by Ferrell . . .     God help us!

The trailers weren't funny -- all the jokes seemed very immature.

However, Will Ferrell is co-writing with Adam McKay, with whom he worked on "Ricky Bobby" and "Anchorman" (two not-too-terrible comedies). Maybe all the funny parts are R-Rated...but I'm not counting on that so much!

I thought Will Ferrell was funniest in Blades of Glory and Elf; the rest was
just so-so......

Problem with Will Ferrell: he's the same in every movie he does. The storyline might change (and maybe his hair style) but he's the same character every time. And it's played out. The trailer wasn't funny, except for one or two times I did get a slight chuckle because of John C. Reilly's comic timing.

I laughed at the physical comedy of the bunk beds part, shown above.  The rest looked stupid to mildly amusing, but a whole lot better than anything I've seen from Semi Pro.

When did John C. Reilly become Will Ferrell Jr.? Even in Walk Hard, he was basically doing a Ferrell performance, complete with  some of Will's favorite gags (e.g. running around in nothing but briefs). This film seems to be emblematic of the current casting style that really limits Reilly's talents, when he's demonstrated in the past that he's capable of far more than the one-note shticks Ferrell has built his career around.

The scary thing is, somebody actually green-lighted this project. The question is now inevitable: Is there anything too crappy for Hollywood to foist on the public?

I laughed during the tv commericals....I found it funny. Especially in the interview, graveyard, and bed scenes. It even has a 100% in RT...but it's a bit too early to tell.

And Juno and Knocked Up, two good movies

BTW, I'm actually pretty surprised at the positive early review this movie is getting, though none of them from top critics. I guess the funny parts are in the R-rated section of the movie

The movie has a 100% approval rating on RT; are we seeing another
Horton?

The same cabal of critics who seem hand-picked to screen movies before the rest of them, including my favorite Prairie Miller, have screened this movie.  The only thing noteworthy about all seven of these people liking this film is that a couple of them occasionally demonstrate some discernment.  Otherwise, it's best to wait until the rest of the critics weigh in before we say whether we've picked another Horton or Wanted.

And remember, it's worked both ways this year.  The critics panned Hancock, and as far as I can tell, none of us Razzie voters feel that way.

As I said in my response to Semi-Pro, The 90 second trailer for this was a helluva lot better than the 90 minutes of Semi-Pro! As mentioned above Step-Brothers has early positive reviews but as we all know that can change to the other side of the spectrum within a few days past it's release date. However, early word of mouth and the collaborative team that are on this film I really do not see this going below fresh. I guess Will find out (get it "Will").

This looks like a one-joke movie, and that is: adults who act like kids. The trailers just repeat that joke over and over again, and its already gotten old to me after watching a few previews and TV spots. I can't imagine having it told to me for 90 minutes.

I also want to know: Why did John C. Reilly suddenly decide to become a member of The Frat Pack and focus on low-level comedy, after having success in so many acclaimed dramatic movies?

Hate to say but it is more than likely due to him making more money acting as a Man-Child than as a serious actor...However, this movie does look hilarious.

Naw, I'd have to push Will aside to get at it.

I think it's likely the reason the movie is better and funnier than the steaming pile that is Semi-Pro is that Will's having to share the limelight. Of course, he had to do that in Blades of Glory, another movie for which he and the producers should be cast down into the deepest depths of cinematic limbo (and the gate locked behind them).

This film had about 3 funny moments, but the rest of it was extremely ridiculous and tedious. This, in my humble opinion, is Ferrell's WORST film.

(But I enjoyed Semi-Pro, dammit!)

I prefer this film over Semi-Pro, because Will Ferrell and John C Reilly seem to work pretty well in the same film.  Ferrell's sports comedies really seem to bite the dust.  Other genres are more suitable for Will Ferrell (except for Bewitched).

For those who complain about over-the-top comedians who play the same role over and over, just take a look at Adam Sandler. I'm sure some people liked The Wedding Singer, Water Boy, etc., but the two most important movies of his career were Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison -- and I wish he'd have stuck with the moron thing for a while longer.

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Are you suggesting Sandler hasn't consistently played "morons" throughout his career??

True, his Happy Gilmore, Bill Madison, Little Nicky, and Water Boy characters were all morons. As of late, he has played somewhat smarter characters (which just means his characters are now of average intelligence). It's not Sandler's acting that annoys me, it's his movies' scripts: They are all the same in dialog and plot. This is why, if you have seen one of his movies, you've seen them all.

I'm not counting "Spanglish" or "Punch Drunk Love." You know, movies that he didn't have complete creative control over.

Here's the problem:People think that acting inmature and acting like a child is the same.It isn't.The Frat Pack members usually act like inmature grown ups,but this time they're actually acting like children, which most likely will dissapoint fans of The Frat Pack, but it's still funny, although not for an hour and a half.Nevertheless it's still a funny, and a masterpiece compared to http://www.razzies.com/forum/semipro_forum263.html - SEMI-PRO .And I think the worst in the movie was John C. Reilley.I know he was being over the top on purpose to be funny, but he just wasn't.The funniest was in fact Richard Jenkins.

True. The Frat Pack are known for acting immature in their movies, but here, they are actually acting LIKE CHILDREN, even to the point that they get into a fight with little school kids. It's not the same type of funny.
