WHAT CAN WE SAY ABOUT a YEAR LIKE the ONE WE ALL JUST (BARELY) SURVIVED?

A YEAR in WHICH tp://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=363 - the BIGGEST BOX OFFICE HIT WAS a RAZZIE®-WORTHY PIECE of sh*t?

A YEAR in WHICH AUDIENCES FLOCKED to SEE http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=387&PN=1 - REMAKES , http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=375 - RETREADS , http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=392 - RE-HASHES http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=398 - RIP-OFFS and EVEN (HERE's a NEW ONE!) http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=337 - SEQUELS to REMAKES (!) LIKE JIM JONES' DISCIPLES PLEADING for SECONDS on KOOL-AID?

A YEAR in WHICH http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2009&p=.htm - HOLLYWOOD MADE ITS BIGGEST BUX EVER -- WHILE PRODUCING ALMOST NOTHING of ACTUAL MERIT?

A YEAR in WHICH "THE INDUSTRY" and http://www.razzies.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3421&PN=1 - ITS OVERALL OUTPUT SEEMED to BE ALL BUT BEGGING for RAZZIES® ALL AROUND...

COME to THINK of IT...FOR US, MAYBE IT WASN'T SUCH a BAD YEAR AFTER ALL!

TWO INDUSTRY DUDES DISCUSSING http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=gijoe.htm - G.I. JOE

DUDE #1: "Sure it was mindless, indefensible crap..."

DUDE #2: "But it grossed over $300 million worldwide!"

I saw a report from John Berman on ABC that this was the most profitable year for movies ever, and that somehow that meant that this was a good movie year... No... Just... Just no... what a WEAK year... Can we just Razz 2009?

Man, that WAS some year.  Throughout the course of the year, I went on a number of websites and recommended this site to people who absolutely hated these kinds of movies and most of my 'promos', if you will, were placed on reviews for movies that deserve this kind of honor, not to mention numerous spots on Moviefone and E! Online where these kinds of movies are treated with respect (and undeserving credibility).  Thanks to their recent polls and several fan-voted award shows, their choice for Best Movie of the Year has already clinched my choice for Worst Movie of the Year (and has a shot at Worst Movie of the Decade).

Yeah, it was a sad year for movie making. Yeah, money was made ... without much creative effort. The worst movie of the year on a critical level is the biggest money maker of the year. The amount of remakes, sequels, and now sequels to remakes was so high we can barely narrow it down to five choice. But nothing's going to change in 2010, because as far as H-Wood is concerned, nothing is broken, so why fix it. And movie goers seem willing to pay to see anything, so they are just going to add fuel to the fire. In the end, all we have are the Razzie Awards, our way of telling H-Wood, "your product sucks!".

I would love to see What Goes Up and Alvin Makes Me Squeak Well get their due, but when it all comes down to it, the worst 2009 movie that was so bad it made me laugh was:

2012

2012 all the way!  You don't find many movies where so much money was poured into so much eye candy, and it still left you laughing at how bad it all was!

Around where I live, at least, people have been holding Shredding Parties, where they put documents and things that remind them of 2009 thru a shredder.

I hope that out in LA, they put the Hollywood sign through one!

Yeah, I really wish they would shred all the negatives (and film prints) to most of 2009's movies. That's what H-Wood should do! Not make remakes and reboots of bad movies, but destroy them altogether...and bury the remains under cement...in the middle of nowhere!!

The sad thing is that 2010 doesn't look too promising either in terms of originality. Consider this: Death at a Funeral (May 16) is a remake of a British comedy that was released in 2007 (!!!!!!!!!). And one of the actors is reprising the same role (!!!!!!!).

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Having seen the 2007 version myself (and found it quite amusing) I, too, am baffled at the notion of re-making it so soon after the original. Besdies the berry idea of such a rapid remake, DEATH AT A FUNERAL 2010 ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321509/ - IMDb LINK ) has the additional RAZZIE® red flag of being directed by Neil LaBute ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001438/ - IMDb LINK ) whose previous remake was the multiply-RAZZIE®-nominated WICKER MAN ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450345/awards - IMDb LINK ) featuring the hilarious Nicolas-Cage-in-a-Bear-Suit scene...

My Picks... so far:
Worst Picture BUCKY LARSON
Worst Actor Shia LaBeouf
Worst Actress Martin Lawrence
Worst Sup Actor John Turturro
Worst Sup Actress Vanessa Hudgens
Worst Director Michael Bay

I also saw the 2007 movie you're talking about, and it's fine the way it is! What the hell, H-Wood? Now you're not even going to bother waiting a few decades to do remakes -- you're going to do them within 3 years of the original?! And it's not like this is an Asian horror movie in which you have to recast everyone's role as English-speaking Americans. No, the original was a British movie! So what "great" improvements is H-Wood going to add to this remake? More toilet humor?

It's a sad day when H-Wood feels it has to do American remakes of movies that are already in English -- AND aren't even a decade old!

Looks like there's some sort of anarchy going on here.  Here are some films that RT thinks will be highly anticipated:

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Shutter Island
Alice in Wonderland
Clash of the Titans
Kick-Ass
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Iron Man 2
Robin Hood
Shrek Forever After
Sex and the City 2
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
The A-Team
The Karate Kid
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
The Last Airbender
Inception
Salt
Toy Story 3
Little Fockers
The Expendables
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Rapunzel
Tron Legacy
The Green Hornet

Does 2010's Worst Picture stand among these titles or does it lie among the haze of lesser-known upcoming releases?  Most of us think it's the former, but that doesn't mean it's not the latter.

That Percy Jackson movie looks kinda stupid and poorly timed, with Clash of the Titans coming out.
Next 3 could be OK, but 2 are remakes.
Kick-Ass? Never heard of it.
No need for NoES.
Iron Man 2? Meh, probably alright.
Robin Hood... I guess the idea is to mix Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Gladiator? Ok, I spose...
Then a whoooooole lotta passes until Harry Potter.
Pass, pass, and how the HELL do you do Green Hornet without Bruce Lee? I thought the show was supposed to be terrible aside from him anyway... What is wrong with Hollywood...

People make mistakes. It's human nature so I would assume aBute's misstep was that WICKER MAN movie. Other than that, the movie he made after that, LAKEVIEW TERRACE, shows that he can make a good movie.

Oh goodie, so "Death At A Funeral Version 0.5" will take a British comedy and replace everything with the same sterotypical, African-American themed comedy that you can see for free anytime you watch old reruns of UPN sitcoms on the BET Network, or whenever you watch any of the crap that Tyler Perry makes. Yeah, that's such an improvement. Hey, I know, while we're at it, how about if H-Wood remakes "Four Weddings and A Funeral" with an all Hispanic cast! I mean, it's been 14 or 15 years since that movie was released in theaters, and so it's ripe for an uncalled for American-ized remake!

Hey, I thought in this thread we'd be discussing what the worst movie for 2009 would be!

Anyways, that list MiguelAntilsu posted above is the reason why I advocate splitting the prequel/sequel/remake/ripoff category this year.  We have enough to do it for the 2009 movies, and there's practically nothing but prequels, sequels, remakes and ripoffs for 2010!

As for PJ&tO:tLT vs. CotT 2010, I saw trailers for both, and they both sucked.

As for DaaF 2010, I don't care if they reinterpret a British comedy into African American comedy three years after the original.  Just make it funny.  I saw the trailer for this, and I didn't laugh once.  This is gonna suck, too.

Here are some Razzie contenders that might fly under the radar, but still deserve a look. . .

Rachel McAdams  for her terribly miscast role in Sherlock Holmes.

Christian Bale for his surrprisingly wooden performance in Terminator: Salvation, although he didn't exactly wow anyone with Public Enemies either.

Dakota Fanning for her unnderwhelming performances in Push and New Moon.

Planet 51 for being the worst animated film of the year.

Ewan McGregor for his complete inability to fake an American accent in Amelia.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt for ruining what would have been a fantastic year for him by playing Cobra in GI Joe: Rise of Cobra.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell for managing to be one of the least talked about bad movies this year.

Robert Rodriguez for Shorts, proving once again that he should not be directing any family films (on a positive note, it was much better than The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl).

People make mistakes all of the time, and I'm sure LaBute's misstep was re-making WICKER MAN. However, the film he made directly after that, LAKEVIEW TERRACE, shows he can still make great films.

So true, Rodriguez needs to stick to R-rated action movies. Although having to choose which was better between "Shorts" and "Sharkboy & Lavagirl" is like having to choose which side of your face you'd rather have punched in.

I have a better one. Worst Couple: The Watchmen graphic novel and the idea to make it into a movie in the first place. Seriously, H-Wood, you can't take a 6 hour long epic and try to condense it into a 2 1/2 hour long theater released movie and still think it will be good.

Here is my idea: Hollywood can save a lot of time by just remaking all the movies that were made in 2009 this year. They are going to do it sooner or later anyway and the lead time seems to be shrinking. So why not shoot for the ultimate in reducto ad absurdum.

True. I mean H-Wood just remade "Death At A Funeral", a movie that's only 3 years old, quite possibly the quickiest rehashing of a movie in the history of remakes! I say, why wait 3 decades to make remakes of last year's movies?

Regarding After Last Season, that is  http://us.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi192611097/ - the worst trailer for a movie released last year that I've seen so far .

I still regard http://us.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2249523993/ - Severed Ways as the worst movie of last year, complete with its up close view of defecation, its man rape scene, its big red block letters announcing what the next part is about and the several minutes of the movie dedicated to watching a Viking axe trees.  That doesn't mean that After Last Season couldn't beat it for the worst, though.

However, in regards as what movie was so bad it made me laugh, like I said before, I give it to 2012, and that movie should win the Razzies.

Please do NOT vote for Anne Hatahway (Bride Wars) or Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes). They are too good for nomination, maybe just bad choices. But i read reviews McAdams (Sherlock Holmes) and they say she was great, almost as Donwey. Jr.

You should vote for Beyonce, she was the worst one in this year.

I rather enjoyed Sherlock Holmes and while I wasn't thrilled with the casting of McAdams or the presentation of the character she portrayed, I didn't have any serious problem with her performance. For the record, she did not appear on the ballot and I don't expect her to receive a lot of write ins. As a long standing Baker Street Irregular, there were aspects of the film that bothered me a bit, but there were some amusing inside jokes and the film was reasonably entertaining. Evidently Downey jr. has already turned down a role in the upcoming film Cowboys and Aliens to concentrate on a Holmes sequel.

Thanks so much for fixing the Razzies website, guys! I've been waiting patiently to get back to the forum to talk about a whole lot where 2009 stood and what 2010 is going to be like.
First, the best film this year...District 9 and the best animated film this year, Coraline.

BUT...The Worst, this year (even though it made $400 million, but it's big, loud and more dumb than the first anyway) is... Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. RAZZ THIS one, guys!

I should probably note that I was not saying that Rachel McAdams deserved a Razzie nomination for Sherlock Holmes. I was simply saying that she was miscast, and that she at least deserved a look.

To be honest, I also enjoyed Sherlock Holmes, and have no intentions of nominating McAdams.

Thanks to the Head Razz for working on the site!

BTW I liked Downey and Law, they have great potential, but boy did Guy Ritchie's direction suck! So i cast a write in vote for Ritchie for Worst Director. As for the rest of the ballot, it's awfully difficult to make a decision except for Will Ferell for Worst Actor. Steve Martin managed to dodge the bullet again for Stink Panther 2.

I liked Sherlock Holmes for what it was, and I felt it was a perfectly passable film on all fronts, except for true originality.

Wasn't too bad this year. Though the 3-D breakthrough technology of James Cameron's film "Avatar" and others (especially in 3-D) certainly helped it push it to $10 billion.

My favorite film this year: the simply stunning masterpiece of Neill Blomkamp's "District 9." I certainly would love to see it as one of the 10 films to be featured in the Best Picture Oscar race!

I once thought to razz Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but there's even a crappier film that I saw a couple of nights ago that deserves Worst Film of the Year:

Rob Zombie's "HALLOWEEN II"

RAZZ THIS ONE, GUYS!

You know what I find funny? The fact that with the exception of a handful of those titles, most of those movies are either remakes, sequels, or adapations ... and unwanted ones at that. And then we have certain people on this forum who wonder why we're always so against unwanted remakes, sequels, and adapations.

Very surprising choices there, such as "500 Days of Summer", "Paranormal Activity" (I guess you don't like movies that are nothing but people talking), "Sherlock Holmes", "The Hangover", "Lovely Bones", and "Up In The Air".

Ok, I know that I only have a couple more days to to swing any more Razzie voters (although, they are mostly the ones who are going to Prevue Night),  but I decided to make one last effort to convince anyone who still need to vote to consider these before they cast their ballots to nominate.

Worst Screen Couple: Billy Crudup and his glowing blue penis/Watchmen (More distracting than Malin Ackerman's lackluster performance and the sex scene that killed the whole movie!)

Worst Supporting Actor: Chris Klein/Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (Please, write him in this category! He desperately deserves it!)

Worst Actress: Christine DeMarco/C Me Dance (Somehow, I have managed to see this film, but for your sake, just watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g46Ntg38cc&feature=related - the trailer !)

Worst Screenplay: C Me Dance, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, and Miss March (One is from an unprofessional religious film, one is from a film that needs to be wrote in, and one is. . . CRAP! I have no doubt that Miss March will get this nomination, but I hope that all three of these get  the nomination too.)

Worst Picture: Miss March (If this film does not get a Worst Picture nomination, I will lose faith with the Razzies! Granted, this film is almost a shoo-in, but you can never be too careful.)

For once, I agree with you. Yeah, it's akward, but it's part of the charcter losing his humanity and it was like that in the graphic novel, too. The same thing seems to apply to everyone's hatred for "Bruno" and the nudity in that, as if a movie is automatically bad if there's male nudity in it. Seems like some members need to grow up a little. If you're so offended by male nudity, then simply cover the bottom of the screen with your hand. Don't hate on the entire movie because of it.

I've learned to cover dongs in movies with my hand without taking myself out of the movie. It's fairly easy to get over. I find it strange that a movie with 60+% has Razzie consideration, but if you couple how uncomfortable that made people with the idea of a fairly literal translation of a graphic novel, and the fact that some people thought it was going to be more of an action movie than it was, I KIIINDA get why it was on there. It really doesn't deserve to win anything, Razzie wise. As for Bruno, the guy seemed to be trying to get himself killed to make the movie, and that takes huevos no one here has. Can't Razz a guy for that, obnoxious gay sex jokes or no.

Not only do I think that Billy Crudup's glowing member is distracting, but I also think itis completely unnecessary for the film! When it comes to the film as a whole, however, I think it's a flawed but fairly competent film. Other than the penis, no other aspect of the film should be nominated for the Razzie.

As for Bruno, I am equally surprised that the film has gotten so much criticism by some of our forum members. Sure, it has its flaws, but I certainly think that it is much more competent than nearly all of the other Razzie contenders.

Well, Michaels started to explain it, but the nudity was in the graphic novel, and there WAS a perfectly legitimate reason for it. It was to show his disconnect from humanity and human values. He doesn't feel heat or cold, so the only reason to keep clothing on was because of our notion of decency, but it's ultimately unimportant to him, so he doesn't bother. It's explained better in the book. But it's important. And it wasn't in the movie all that much, really. After seeing the movie, I did a bunch of research on the symbolism and messages and stuff, and there's a very good reason the graphic novel was considered more of a literary success than an artistic one.

Worst Screen Couple: YES. Worst Supporting Actor for Taylor Lautner: YES.  Worst Picture: NOT QUITE. Sure, Twilight Saga: New Moon sucked (a lot!), but there were far worse movies that deserve the Razzie Award much more than New moon did. My biggest problem with this film was Taylor Lautner, especially when he has to interact with Kristin Stewart. The "chemistry" between the two reminded me more of Blue Lagoon than of the actual book (NEWSFLASH: THE BOOKS AREN'T THAT GREAT EITHER! HOW THEY BECAME THIS POPULAR ABSOULUTELY CONFOUNDS ME!)

It's Economics 101--the more pictures that get nominated, the more studios can advertise "Oscar nominees" and the more publicity generates (hopefully) more $ (and we're not invoking the memory of the Warren Beatty/Goldie Hawn MESSTERPIECE of the same "name")

Well, "Freddy Got Fingered", that was a no brainer (pun intented). It was the single worst movie of that year. And as much as you're claiming that we NEED to razz "New Moon" (although it would help if you were a voting member, too, it only costs $20), 2009 was full of nothing but bad movies, so it going to be very hard to choose a worst of the worst this time around, unlike the way it was a decade ago.

Hmm, pay a lowly $20 a year to voice your opinion and make your choices one vote closer to being razzed, or pay nothing and sit back and complain about us razzing the wrong people and movies. Is it that hard a choice to make? Or would you rather spend that $20 to see a pair of crappy movies instead (like oh say, any "Twilight" sequels)?

Good point... No I don't wonder to pay 20$!Tongue But I want to ask, for life is 500$... So it's 20 time 25... So if in 25 years I still be alive and Razzie community still exist, I won't have to pay anymore? That's the point! Maybe in 25 years I won't be interessted by this anymore so I prefer to pay 20$/year but I just want to know how much for the life?!

So if in 25 years I still be alive and Razzie community still exist, I won't have to pay anymore? That's the point! Wel, if you think about it, all you would need to do is pay the $20 per year and if or when the Razzie cease to be (and I hope they do not), you would just stop paying. It would make more sense than putting $500 up front and then the awards end a few years later.

Wow, my first Razzie ceremony as a member! I have followed these awards since I was a teenager, and I am still amazed that I am a member (Trust me, if I knew that it was this easy to become a member, I would have done it years ago!). Joining this sight has definitely been a highlight for me this past year, even up there with finishing Air Force SATCOM school (Basic Training was a highlight enough! Getting the rest of the money to help finish my Pre-Law major was good though).

In the end, nothing will put a sweeter finish on my first Razzie Awards than to see Miss March take home Wost Picture. Here's hoping that it "wins" it!
