I've never said this here before, but I need to: I hate puns. Some of my friends love making puns. They make puns 24/7. I just find them annoying.

But back on topic....

I think you should add a forum for "This Means War" as well. It's getting some really bad reviews.

Like I said a year ago, the 2010s are pretty much (judging by the quality of the films he is choosing*) going to be Nicolas Cage's 'John Travolta moment'.

*Excluding 'Kick-Ass'

Ghost Rider 1 was #19 on the Bottom 40 Films of 2007. I imagine this one is probably going to get a single-digit percent approval rating at Rotten T because they're doing well so far at holding the critics back. Is Nicolas Cage starring in anything else this year? Does Nicolas Cage stand a chance of beating Shia LeBoeuf and the two Breaking Dawn Part I actors for Worst Actor in the 2011 RAZZIES?

And last week I said This Means War wouldn't or shouldn't get a forum, but now I eat my words. If need be, The Vow can be a leftover worst new film from last week as well.

EDIT: I momentarily forgot about Adam Sandler! Does Cage have any chance of at least being nominated for Worst Actor then?

In related news, one of the director's of this (Brian Taylor) is going to direct a Twisted Metal movie.

With the possibility of... Nic Cage being Sweet Tooth??? That sounds like a recipe for disaster. Hell, David Jaffe should be in charge of a Twisted Metal film, not these guys who made Crank. If a Twisted Metal movie does suck, may Sweet Tooth make Brian Taylor shut up and bleed! Also, have you played the new Twisted Metal yet, SchumacherH8ter?

The release is just under 40 hours away, and there are STILL no reviews at Rotten T. I'll be stunned if this gets above 20% in approval rating. Though those two critics agreed that this would make Ghost Rider 1 look like The Dark Knight (Top 40 Films of 2008, #1), Metacritic hasn't taken note of it.

It's been 12 1/2 years (1/8 century!) since Sean Penn declared that Nic Cage was no longer an actor. Here are the Cage films that caught my attention since Jnr. 1, 2000:

Gone in 60 Seconds [remake] : Bottom 40 Films of 2000, #40
Captain Corelli's Mandolin : Bottom 40 Films of 2001, #14
Adaptation. : Top 40 Films of 2002, #13 (This is his only good film since Y2K)
The Wicker Man [remake] : Bottom 40 Films of 2006, #4
Ghost Rider : Bottom 40 Films of 2007, #19
NEXT : Bottom 40 Films of 2007, #16
Bangkok Dangerous : Bottom 40 Films of 2008, #36
Know1ng : Bottom 40 Films of 2009, #39
G-Force : Bottom 40 Films of 2009, #28
The Sorcerer's Apprentice : Bottom 40 Films of 2010, #39
Season of the Witch : Bottom 40 Films of 2011, slated
Trespass : Bottom 40 Films of 2011, slated

Besides Stolen/Medallion, which just got scheduled for May 25, he's also starring in The Frozen Ground, now in pre-production, scheduled for Dcb. 1, 2012, and Frank or Francis, also in pre-production, but with no release date.

Penn made those remarks about Cage back in March or April of 1999, as reported by People Magazine. Essentially, Penn was criticizing Cage's tendency to take big budget, highly publicized movies, and suggested that Cage wasn't "an actor" anymore, but rather a "performer." He added that Cage could be an actor again if he changed his focus to "pure" movies (whatever those are).  Cage fired back by stating that in show business, you take enough "negativity" from the press without having your friends dump on you. Penn probably had a point, but, as they say...those who live in glass houses.

To whatsthepoint: I was only talking about the films that caught my attention. Matchstick Men was great, but only earned an Honorable Mention on my Top & Bottom 40 Films of 2003. Lord of War was fair, not on my 2005 list. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans had an excellent approval rating, but wasn't on my Top 40 Films of 2009. Kick-A**' approval rating was very good, but wasn't on my 2010 list. When you demanded to know if I hadn't seen those, what were you implying?

To SchumacherH8ter: The first two Twisted Metal games were much better than III and IV. I don't remember Twisted Metal Black, but Twisted Metal 2012 looks good but not great. I've never played any of them, only seen my older brother do so.

If ever a video game film gets made that gets great reviews, succeeds at the box office, and gets OSCAR, Golden Globe, or BAFTA award accolades, it should be front page news in every cinema and entertainment publication... alas, no-one knows how long that'll take.

Does Nicolas Cage still have a chance at being a Worst Actor runner-up for 2011?

And with a 28% approval and 32% Metascore, why hasn't This Means War gotten a forum yet?!?!

If you guys don't, I'll post a topic on This Means War, because, yes, like some other McG films, this got negative reviews.

Anyway, I don't know what to say about Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Or should I say, True Capitalist Rider. I mean, okay, the pissing on fire joke may be over the top, but yet kick-ass, but still, I don't think we need another Ghost Rider movie after the first one. But then again, it is made by the same guys that did a great movie series, Crank, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

Since HeadRAZZ waited until mid-weak to make this forum, instead of making it on Sunday or Monday (there wasn't a forum last week, so he should have had the time), it seems he won't make one for THIS MEANS WAR. But you should still wait until tomorrow, just in case.

Here are some notes I made on this film:

1. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who made the Crank movies.  At least its not Mark Steven Johnson.

2. The film's budget is $75M.  That's $35M less than the budget for the first one.

3. I can't tell if the character of Ghost Rider is motion-capture or computer-animated.  Last time, I think it was the latter.

4. My guess is that most of us are gonna wait 'til summer or whenever it comes on DVD so we can put it on our Netflix queues and watch it free of charge.  That's the most efficient way to see it.

If this film has lots of action sequences, then I believe people will go to see it (regardless of what critics think). So far this year critics have had absolutely no impact on the box office.

Of course a good number of those reviews also seem to be criticizing the plot (give me a break).

But will just have to see this coming weekend.

No argument, but Penn doesn't exactly have a lot of room to criticize anyone else. He may not be equally guilty of making pandering, big budget movies, but his sin is going after roles that are blatant "Oscar baiters." One example, him portraying Harvey Milk. It's not that he gave a bad performance, but he was getting Oscar buzz months before the film was released. Frankly, that was a case of the role, not the actor, getting the nomination. Peewee Herman probably could have received an Oscar nomination for that role. And Penn's filmography is filled with similar roles.

No offense HeadRAZZberry, but maybe the reason Cage chose to do this role was because he figured it could give him a  better opening weekend than any he's had lately (not to mention the fact he's broke, so he's doing anything to get money). Even if it doesn't do great business, he was probably well paid.

Personally I don't think he cares about "winning" Razzies.

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: The reference to Cage taking this role because he wanted to "add a RAZZIE® to his mantle" was...a joke!

There was a hard rock band from the '60's called The Yardbirds. One of their guitarists was named Jeff Beck. They were on Rolling Stone Magazine's 100 Greatest Artists list.* Their song Over Under Sideways Down was featured in the movie Observe & Report in the scene where Ronnie got high for the first time.

I liked the scenes with Ghost Rider in this movie. Not Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider. He's easily the best thing about it. So, of course, he has less than 20 minutes of screentime in the movie, the rest of the running time being wasted on a boring as sh*t plotline about a half-human little boy that might start the apocalypse and a truely heinous performance from Nicolas Cage. It's too boring to warrant a review. Grade: D

It should get a Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off, or Sequel nod and, unless something else really bad comes along, Nicolas Cage should win Worst Actor. As for Worst Picture, it's not in my personal Top 5 worst movies of the year, but if movies that don't have a forum are excluded, then it's in the Top 5.

I completely agree. I also like the wicked sense of humor of the Ghost Rider, his little laughs and his fun while causing damage were the best thing about the movie.
I also kinda liked Idris Elba, but he was unchallenged in his role.
However, I didn't like the story at all. And it bugged me that while he was burning hot, the women had no problems to hug him. Worst Actor nod for Nic Cage, WS for David S. Goyer and worst Sequel.

If you already thought Cage deserved a Worst Actor nomination, take a look at http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/24/cages-ghost-rider-even-goofier-without-special-effects?_r=true -

The Yardbirds were a blue rock British Invasion acts featuring at different times Jimmy Page, who went on to form Led Zeppelin, and Eric Clapton, who went next to John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, then Cream, then Blind Faith, then Delaney & Bonnie, then Derek & the Dominoes before he finally went solo, and uber-guitarist Jeff Beck, who formed the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart before going out on his own.  Looking from the view of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions, Jimmy Page was inducted twice (Yardbirds, Led Zep), Jeff Beck was inducted twice (Yardbirds, Jeff Beck) and Eric Clapton was inducted three times (Yardbirds, Cream, Eric Clapton - the most inducted inductee).

Songs you should check out by the Yardbirds include the previously mentioned "Over Under Sideways Down", as well as "For You Love" (#6 in 1965), "Heart Full Of Love" (#9 in 1965), "Shapes Of Things" and their covers of "Smokestack Lightning" (originally by Howlin' Wolf) and "The Train Kept A-Rollin'" (a cover of Johnny Burnette & the Rock 'N' Roll Trio's cover of Tiny Bradshaw's original).

Luckily, you have YouTube and Spotify!

Nicolas Cage is someone we need to make up our minds about.  He's not like Carmen Elektra or Paris Hilton who are guaranteed to win whatever category they're nominated for (unless Elektra goes up against Hilton, in which case Hilton always "wins").  I mean, Cage starred in the remake of Wicker Man, and as laughably bad as that movie was, he got off scot free because there was always something worse.  So, until he stars in something so wretched we're going to serve him Golden Raspberry flambé, we might as well halp him go for getting the record for the most Razzie nominations without ever being diss-honored with a "win".

BTW, who holds that record?

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: We had just such an award at our 2005 ceremonies, Worst RAZZIE® Loser of Our First 25 Years. When that was "won" by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the mantle of most RAZZIE® noms w/no "wins" was passed to Keanu Reeves -- Here's an http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000206/awards - to see what all Keanu has been RAZZIE®-nominated for...

Well, counting Cage's Worst Screen Couple nods, Cage currently has a "career total" of 5 Razzie nominations, and Reeves has 6.  So Cage could tie things up this year!

Look at them -- Both of them should be setting Oscar records, not Razzie records.  UGH!
