I wish this film's makers had decided to be "short and sweet" 10 years ago. The 1st RESIDENT EVIL had a "small movie" charm. I'm not talking about the budget, but how it was a simple story that took place in a specific place, and its goal was just to entertain. When I catch it on TV, it brings me back to that time period (2000-02) where a lot of movies (of different genres) had that same charm.

Now it's become a franchise, even though nobody seems to want another one (I have friends who are fans of the video-games who would back me up). At least in SAW* there was an idea of a goal: wanting to see the police arrest JIGSAW and his pupils. But after APOCALYPSE, the world is no longer in danger because the virus has already infected most of the population. EXTINCTION and AFTERLIFE just showed ALICE and co. trying to survive in this new infected world... which was boring!

*I feel that this franchise will have the same destiny: it won't be nominated until the final installment.

Yeah, this deserves Razzie attention, and I really hope that THIS TIME Paul WS Anderson doesn't get snubbed for Worst Director again. I CAN DREAM, DANGIT!!! XD

Also, wanna ask. Is Stolen also being considered? That's the movie with Nicolas Cage directed by the same guy who directed Expendables 2 that seems to be ripping-off Taken.

Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact.

Worst Supporting Actor: Brendan Fraser/Gimme Shelter and The Nut Job

Seems as usual, this isn't being pre-screened for critics.

Reviews here have mostly negative (duh!). A friend who liked the first one went to see it in 3D, and even he said it sucked. He was also angry that the ending was open for another installment.

Can someone tell me why there are 5 RE movies already? I haven't seen #4, but what is taking Alice so damn long to kill zombies and crush the Umbrella corporation? Do these films ever end in a concrete resolution, or is there always an opened ending for a sequel? However, I must say the trailer intrigued me a lot (the one that starts off like a rom-com and turns out to be a RE movie).

To moviewizguy: I heard a rumor that the 6th one is planned to be the last. Even then, one who avoided these films at all costs can't predict if Milla will even succeed.

On topic: If this dodges any 2012 RAZZIE nominations, I'll be fine... for a while. That neutrality will end if the unknown 6th Resident Evil film either gets exonerated in the reviews or dodges RAZZIE nominations as well. But I doubt that'll happen until September of 2014.

The only thing more regrettable? Some people believe the Resident Evil series of videogames is drawing further past its prime. Screwattack.com says the 10th worst mistake made by Capcom up to this month is supplanting too many of the horror elements with action!

I've had a lot of disagreements with ScrewAttack in the past, but they're right about Capcom's decision to add too much action. Resident Evil 6 (the video game) looks bad. That being said, Resident Evil 4 is still one of my all time favorite games.

The virus has gone global. Could you kill 6 billion zombies in just 4 movies?

They usually have those endings where everything seems OK... and then something bad happens leaving things open for another sequel.

Why is this? Is it because it looks more like a Michael Bay film rather than a true survival-horror game?

Actually, I think it's more like the RE movies than a Michael Bay movie. And that's why I think it's gonna suck.

I thought each film had already "gone global." How much more global can you go?!

No, in the 1st one the virus was still inside Umbrella. In the 2nd one, it broke out but only affected the city. It was in the 3rd one where it went global. And if I remember correctly, UMBRELLA seems to have a lot of people working there and "offices" all over the country or even the world. And when I see this, I'll know why at the end of the 4th one we see JILL VALENTINE working for UMBRELLA. Wait. Why do I know all this?!

R.T. (30%): "Another predictable entry in the franchise that seems to get more cynical and lazy with each film". Ironically, the rating is the highest of the sequels.

And it's the longest, running almost 2 hours! I stopped RE4 within 10 minutes because the slow-mo annoyed the hell out of me.

I was talking about RE4, not RE5. If you're suggesting I watch RE4, so I can watch RE5 just to say what was so bad about RE5...I might have to pass.

Sorry, I thought you said "RE 5". But yeah, you should watch both. I know, they're unwatchable. I saw the first 4 back-to-back in 1 weekend!

Time to finish up the Resident Evil series and not a moment too soon! I doubt that you need any background info this time.

Let's start with a brief smattering of the things that didn't suck. Keven Durand's great as Barry Burton, the scenes with Las Plagas are good, and Bingbing Li is good as Ada Wong.

The special effects are still sucky, but I'm at peace with them now. The special effects are the least of the film's many problems. One of the film's "hooks" is that several previously dead characters like Carlos, Rain (Michelle Rodriguez), and One are back as clones. Don't remember the last one? He was the black guy he got cut up by the laser grid near the start of the first one. Other than Rain, the clones have no character whatsoever. The only thing seperating them from regular mooks is that they're played by familiar faces. It's nothing more than a shameless attempt to get more butts in seats without doing anything.

Do you need to be told that Milla Jovovich can't act? Didn't think so. Despite his helicopter getting blown up in the last one, Shawn Roberts is back as Wesker. He has about seven minutes of combined screentime, but still manages to leave an ugly impression. Also, he was given a Heel Face Turn and now he's a good guy. Yes, Worthless Sh*t Anderson made one of the best villains in video game history a good guy. But, the worst thing about the movie is... Sienna Guillery? When I heard that the best part of the Resident Evil series was coming back I was excited as Hell. But, no. Her performance is worse than Jovovich's by a good county. In this film, she's brainwashed by Umbrella to fight against Alice and I don't give a crap anymore.

I could go into detail about how terrible Worthless Sh*t is, but you can probably guess how bad his writing and directing is. So, instead, here's the Razzie nods that I think this film should get. Worst Actress for Jovovich, Worst Supporting Actor for Roberts, Worst Supporting Actress for Guillery, and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off, Or Sequel.

It could be argued that the film I'm reviewing tomorrow isn't a horror movie, but it was too obvious a target to pass up. Grade: D-

Next-up: The Number 23!!!!!

FYC:
-Worst Actress for Milla Jovovich.
-Worst Supp. Actress for both Sienna Guillory and Li Bingbing.
-Worst Director.
-Worst Remake or Sequel.

That's a problem lately.  Instead of the Razzie-nominated movies that are laughably bad, most of the movies have been just plain bad.  It's hard to slog through a movie that's just plain bad.

Yes.  There's enough nuclear bombs to kill off the world several times over.  One problem, though.  The radiation will kill Alice.

I didn't mean "you the U.S."; I meant "you as an individual". Even if you have ALICE's fighting skills, it would still take you a lot of time.
