I didn't mean it like that. You see, there are 3 new releases with Razzie potential. Not that long ago, there would be 1 or even 2 bonus picks in one week. But there were none in 2012 (leftovers from the previous week don't count). Usually I'd say that HeadRAZZ should create a forum on Monday and wait until Friday for the reviews to create a 2nd forum. But since he just created the forum for BROKEN CITY, I'm guessing he'll only have time for one forum. ------------- http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com - http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com |
|
Why the sudden slowdown? Unless this is THE week the final ballots go out, why would HeadRAZZ be so strapped for time that a scatological comedy anthology and a modernized fairy tale adaptation couldn't be the #1 and #2 Worst New Movies of the Weak on January 25? There were two weekends in 2012 with two worst new movies, listed as "#2 Worst" and "#1 Worst", not "Leftover" or "Bonus". On January 27, 2012, two films were listed as Official RAZZIE Contenders: Man on a Ledge (#2 Worst New Movie of the Weak) and One For the Money (#1 Worst New Movie). It happened again on 5-18-012, with What to Expect When You're Expecting (#2 Worst New Movie) and Battleship (#1 Worst New Movie). If I can't win my case, then I leave you with one warning: We're going to have more unofficial RAZZIE contenders than official ones by the time the winter's through at this rate... RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: There seems to be a serious misunderstanding as to the relationship between a film having an "Official From" and a "Member-Started" one -- It is, after all, the votes of our Members that eventually decide what gets nominated. And if you'll look at this year's Nominating Ballot, you'll see that many a movie discussed in a "Member-Started" Forum (as opposed to an "Official" one) got mentioned on that ballot, while several titles with "Official" Forums didn't end up making the Nominating Ballot at all. This whole thing is a process, and thinking ahead to a year from now really doesn't serve any purpose at this time. Basically, I think you're making a bigger deal out of this "minor distinction" than needs to be made of it... ------------- RAZZIE Dirty Dozen: Battlefield Earth, F G Fingered, Pluto Nash, A Sound of Thunder, Alone in the Dark, Dirty Love, Rise Silver Srfr, Daddy Day Camp, IKWKM, The Love Guru, All About Steve, Airbender |
|
The only reason that happened was because Battleship forums were set up I have a feeling that old age is catching up to HeadRAZZ, which would partially explain why he's slowed down his forum-making... ------------- Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are much more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact. |
|
Old age catching up to him? I've been dreading that day for years ever since I found out HeadRAZZ was more than 2 months older than my dad. Then suddenly I don't know what to believe: Does old age really impact computer and internet functioning like it does athletic functioning and physical activity? If not, then I doubt if HeadRAZZ disclosing any medical problems would be worth knowing they were hindering his management of the RAZZIE awards. But if HeadRAZZ were THAT concerned with medical problems, wouldn't he be planning on passing down the GRAF some time soon? Or at least wouldn't someone else be co-heading the Foundation? He's not even 60 yet, after all!
Worst comes to worst, all this rambling about HeadRAZZ's health not being that bad is all just me in denial. 2013 has the smell of RAZZBerries hanging heavy over it. There'll probably be more high contenders than 2012, 2011, and even 2010, and could potentially match 2009, but this time it'll be a 50/50 split of official and unofficial contenders.
|
I totally forgot about those! But that doesn't change the fact that, throughout 2012, there were many requests to create bonus forums for movies that did end up with bad reviews. There also were a couple of movies that were suggested, ignored...and still made it to the ballots without forums. I'm not saying that there can't be more than 1 pick; I'm saying that it used to happen a lot from 2005 to 2010, but it has decreased a lot since 2011. And I'm sure it doesn't have to do with HeadRAZZ's health. Maybe he just wants less forums because he knows the number of them that actually end up nominated. Or maybe he didn't even realize? Anyway, there are no early reviews on any of the 3 movies (only the one with a weird title, JOHN DIES AT THE END, has positive early reviews)so maybe we should just flip a coin?

I have to say that this always kind of bothered me about this Forum: Why is it that every time when HeadRAZZ doesn't make a forum about a certain movie, people get so worked up about it? Come on, is it REALLY that important?? I also think that indirectly insulting HeadRAZZ by saying that "he's losing it to old age" is a bit tasteless (I know that you probably didn't mean it as an insult Oiram, but to me it came across as rude -- I mean, he does allow us to have a much bigger role in the discussions about what's on the Razzie-radar through this site, at least in compared to other award -shows. And I kind of think that this at least deserves some respect... Sorry for the bad grammar, I am typing this on my SmartPhone and find it impossible to correct sentences after I've typed them... ------------- |

Many of us are just bitter because the GRAF picked Broken City when we had a weekend packed full of much worse looking films ahead of us, and the prospect of one of them NOT being an official contender, even in the case they get worse review averages. We know it was all about the lost money, but that's not good enough for most of us because nearly all the critics were neutral towards Broken City, thus strongly suggesting it's not going to be near one of the worst films of the year (or the winter, or even the month!)
I never said HeadRAZZ was losing it, getting too old, or anything of the sort. In fact, I was advising him NOT to disclose any medical problems he might have (I'm such an open book that I don't emphasize privacy very often)! For all I know, he could be in perfectly good health and I wouldn't think it would be worth cutting his family's privacy to know. I just think it's a little strange that the additions of new forums has slowed in the past 2-3 years when there are about as many bad films every year as ever...
...and I still don't have a full explanation for it. My only idea was that he wanted to emphasize the ones that lost the most money, starred the RAZZIE repeat offenders, and came as remakes and sequels to past films, and leave the rest for our Unofficial Contenders, which have perfectly good odds of making the final ballots anyway. (Only difference is that, to my memory, they've never made the final cut). Here's my question for Vheid: You're a LOT more conservative with the new subforums than most of us here. If you were in charge of adding new subforums, what would your policy be? (Can you describe in detail?) I ask because 2013 has a big spike in RAZZIE prospects compared to 2011 and 2012, though I can't make a case for more forums until after you make your case for fewer forums.
I've been invited to an avant premiere. It's for a comedy called EL BABYSITTER (really). My grandma knows the director. Just to clarify, here, there aren't red carpets or paparazzi. Even when it's a movie from a director with prestige, it inclued a cocktail and that's it. Anyway, I'm excited!
Hang on a minute. I never said anything like that. Actually, I think BROKEN CITY was a good pick, based on its reviews. Despite the silly premise, THE LAST STAND turned out to be merely decent. The same with MAMA, despite the stupid title. ------------- http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com - http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com |
Okay then. How do you explain the 48% "mean average" at Metacritic? How about the fact that, out of the 32 reviews, there are twice as many green as red, 20 of them are in the yellow, and 15 of them gave Broken City exactly 50%? And most of all, someone tell me why Broken City deserved the forum

This week is a pretty big week for awards. Saturday: Winners of the Producers Guild of America Awards are announced Sunday: Winners of the Screen Actors Guild Awards are announced The last two might give us an idea of what the Academy might choose. ------------- |

When I left the theater after EL BABYSITTER, there were TV news teams ready to interview the audience. I did my best to avoid them, because I was too embarrassed to say how much I hated it. To give you some idea, here's the poster for the movie: ![]() The tagline reads "Which of these 2 would you babysit?". Me? Neither. They're not my type. And you guys?
BROKEN CITY got a forum instead of THE LAST STAND, not instead of MOVIE 43. And I personally don't trust Metacritic. I prefer Rotten Tomatoes.
Great! I was worried we wouldn't have a 2013 answer to RED DAWN.
Are you saying your awards are as important as the other two?

Vits: Not really, but there may be a few surprises among them. The year 2013 will see several films that were initially going to be released earlier than when they are now coming out. Here's an article that focuses on those films: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/the-delayed-films-of-2013-why-these-films-were-pushed-back-and-what-will-you-be-seeing-20130123 - http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/the-delayed-films-of-2013-why-these-films-were-pushed-back-and-what-will-you-be-seeing-20130123

Of course that EL BABYSITTER is now in theaters, and I'll warn people about it. The other new releases here are LINCOLN and SAMMY'S ADVENTURES PART 2. Oh, and also HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. What should I see?

I still don't know which movie deserves a forum, but maybe this will help: 1) PARKER's R.T. rating has started off with 0%.
2) I just found out that H&G:WH was shot in 2011 and it's only being released now because of Jeremy Renner's blockbuster* success. The same thing happened last year with 2 movies that ended up in the Razzie ballots: HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET with Jennifer Lawrence, and, RED DAWN with Renner's AVENGERS co-star Chris Hemsworth. 3) Guess where MOVIE 43 is placed on http://www.film.com/movies/largest-movie-ensembles - *He became a star with THE HURT LOCKER and THE TOWN, but now he prooved that he can attract many audiences. ------------- http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com - http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com |

I just found out that MOVIE 43 has also been on the shelf. And longer than H&G:WH! Anyway, since neither will have reviews for days (Statham and J-Lo's PARKER has reviews, and it'll probably stay around 15%), maybe one of them or both are destined to be next week's Worst Leftover Movie. The problem is that next week we also have more than one obvious contender (a sequel nobody wanted, and a movie with Stallone)! Maybe http://cinematicmethod.com/there-are-no-horned-witches-in-the-cia/ - Meanwhile, http://www.rottentomatoes.com/guides/golden-tomato-awards-2012/wide/ - (what's odd is that it doesn't feature the worst movies as usual). GTA, these should be the Best Picture nominees according to you, right? [TUBE]oO_Po2ALczk[/TUBE] At this point, I don't even care who makes it. I'm more interested in the content of the story and relevance of making another one.

When I get a chance, I'll be voting for The Devil Inside for Worst Picture at the Methane Movie Awards.
Apart from my limited familiarity with The Secret World of Arriety, the other 9 films deserved their high honors at the Golden Tomato Awards.
I don't notice anything strange about JJ Abrams directing Star Wars Episode VII. Star Trek 2009 and Super 8 were on the Top 40 lists for their respective years. The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were nowhere near as bad as we've made them out to be. They were just RAZZed on principle for being in the shadow of the original trilogy. But any director whose made mostly good films and has enough experience directing spacefarers would be a good fit for Star Wars Episode VII. At least it isn't M Night or the one who made Battlefield Earth.

After reading that article gain, I realized that they're trying to make MOVIE 43 seem like another one of those Rom-Com/Multi-Star/Multiple-Story-line movies. But it's an Anthology Movie, so it's not just an excuse to bring a bunch of stars together at once.

Was going to post this on the Movie 43 Forum, but decided to post it here instead, because we might have a lengthy discussion about this, and I would like Headrazz to put his two cents in as well. Do you guys think that the person that most deserves a Razzie for her own individual performance in Movie 43 is Kate Winslet? The reason I believe so is because this is like the equivalent of Susan Sarandon doing Mr. Wooodcock (and later That's My Boy) trying to appeal to the "gross-out/shock/stupid comedy" crowd. Now I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Kate's, but I do respect most of her work, and I know she can act. But her being in this, especially after winning the Oscar, makes me what to scream: "WHAT KIND OF MEDS WERE YOU TAKING, WOMAN?!?!?!" I understand that she's probably trying to "branch out," but, Kate: At least visualize in your mind "Is this really going to work" before you say yes! Does anyone agree? Oh, and since this is an ensemble piece, she'll probably end up in the Worst Supporting Actress category? ------------- Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are much more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact. |

Oiram, we should all see MOVIE 43 to see who stands out as the worst of the cast (someone must be, right?). Next week, I think THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT PART 2 should get the forum. It's an unwanted sequel to a Horror Movie that was already forgotten. And it stars Chad Michael Murray, who's been in Razzie nominated movies, but hasn't been nominated for a Razzie... yet. I know that the more obvious choice was BULLET TO THE HEAD starring Stallone, but early reviews have been as positive as THE LAST STAND and THE EXPENDABLES PART 2. I'm not saying that we should rule it out. It's based on a graphic novel, just like JUDGE DREDD. I'm just saying we should wait until Thursday or Friday, and we should give THIC2 a forum ASAP. Some users have also suggested Golden Globe nominee (Best Song) STAND UP GUYS, which has early weak reviews but doesn't seem like an obvious contender (not to mention that it'll get a limited release), and, WARM BODIES, which does look like it could fall apart because if its crazy concept isn't well-handed, but I'll trust director Jonathan Levine ("50/50"). ARGO won the Producers Guild Award (and so did WRECK-IT RALPH). Could it make history by becoming the first Best Picture winner at the Oscar that wasn't nominated for Best Director? I don't know. What I do know is that if it wins the SAG Award for Best Ensemble tonight, which I don't think it will*, it won't give it more chances because that award isn't related to Best Picture, no matter how many movies have won both. *That award usually go to ensemble pieces. Experts were even surprised at its nomination.

Oh, that Haunting movie is coming out in February? Thanks for the heads up! Okay, I've been thinking... Do you think we should have a special category this year for Worst Raunchy Comedy? We've already had A Haunted House and now Movie 43, and looking at some of the releases down the line, it's not stopping there.

ARGO won the SAG for Best Ensemble. http://www.sagawards.org/awards/nominees-and-recipients/19th-annual-screen-actors-guild-awards - *. I still don't think it makes ARGO the Oscar front-runner. Anyway, http://www.rottentomatoes.com/ballots/oscars-challenge-2013/ - The biggest surprises were Jennifer Lawrence winning over Jessica Chastain (this means that now they're both equally front-runners), and, Tommy Lee Jones winning over Philip Seymour Hoffman (and Christoph Waltz wasn't even nominated). What they didn't show last night is that 007: SKYFALL defeated THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, THE BOURNE LEGACY, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and LES MIS for Best Stunt Ensemble. Does anyone agree or disagree with this? *That award is usally given to ensemble pieces, specially movies with multiple storylines.
I think that when they do create categories like that, it's for noticeable trends. But separating by genre is tricky. I mean, how do we know that this will be the year of the worst comedies in recent years?

Looks like Headrazz decided to do Bullet to the Head anyways, according to the List of 2013 films. The month of January gave us 8 Razzie prospects. Let's see what February has to offer: Warm Bodies - If this film stays on the Fresh side of the Tomatometer, then it won't be a Razzie prospect. It might not be one anyway since the only familiar names in it are Rob Corddry and John Malkovich. Bullet to the Head - Sylvester Stallone's last Razzie win came in 2004 for his role in "Spy Kids 3D: Game Over." His last nomination was in 2011 for his direction of "The Expendables." Will he be nominated for this or will he escape Razzie-free? Identity Thief - This comedy stars Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy and is directed by Seth Gordon. Multiple Razzie nominee Jon Favreau is also in it. Side Effects - This film stars Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, Oscar nominees Rooney Mara and Jude Law, and Channing Tatum (he could be a Razzie prospect for a later film). It's directed by Oscar winning director Steven Soderbergh. If it stays on the Fresh side of the Tomatometer, then it won't be a Razzie prospect. A Good Day to Die Hard - The films in this series haven't disappointed...yet. But typing that sentence might have just jinxed this 5th film. Beautiful Creatures - This fantasy film looks like something the CW would air. It stars two leads I don't recognize and could receive supporting role Razzie nods for Emma Thompson, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum, and Jeremy Irons. Safe Haven - Still blind to the fact that Nicholas Sparks novel adaptations don't bring quality entertainment to the big screen, Relativity Media is releasing another one. Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel play the leads and Lasse Hallstrom, who directed another Sparks novel adaptation, is directing. Escape from Planet Earth - Animated films usually do real good, but this one doesn't look good at all. Razzie winners Jessica Alba and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the voice actors. Snitch - Like Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson also has a Razzie campaign in multiple parts this year. Razzie winner Barry Pepper and Razzie nominee Susan Sarandon also appear in this movie. Dark Skies - I don't recognize any of the names in the cast, but I do recognize director/writer Scott Stewart, who was also responsible for "Legion" and "Priest." Keep an eye on this one. ------------- |

There's going to be a movie adaptation of ENTOURAGE. I haven't seen the final season yet, but I have the feeling that there's no need for a movie. Okay, so I think it's pretty obvious that our next Worst of the Weak title should be: Identity Thief -- and before anyone says anything otherwise, I have two words for you: Craig Mazin. He's the main writer of the film. What has he written before, you may ask? Scary Movie's 3 and 4, Superhero Movie, and The Hangover Part II. Oh, and did I mention he's writing The Hangover Part III as well? If that doesn't make it obvious, I don't know what does! ------------- Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are much more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact. |
Turns out that BULLET TO THE HEAD is weaker than early reviews suggested, but it's still out of "Razzies range." Meanwhile, STAND UP GUYS is bad, and WARM BODIES may be 2013's equivalent of 21 JUMP STREET.
I was actually thinking about it, and I think we should go by date releases. You see, the director is Seth Gordon. 4 CHRISTMASES was released in December, a time of year when most Comedies suck. HORRIBLE BOSSES was released in the Summer, where Comedies have a better chance than in other seasons. His new movie is a Comedy released in February. I'd say it has 1/10 of a chance to be good. Again, I'm going by dates. Despite being talented, Jason Bateman is a hit-or-miss when it comes to picking projects. As for Melissa McCarthy, there's a rumored curse on the cast of BRIDESMAIDS: most of them have followed up with bad movies. ------------- http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com - http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com |

Final Razzie ballots have been released, so get ready to vote. EDIT: Small note to HeadRazz, you forgot to point out the a number of people, Sandler included, did uncredited rewrites of That's My Boy. It says so on the IMDb trivia for the movie. So, this is pretty much a three way race between Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, That's My Boy, and Battleship. Do you guys agree? RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Sorry, Oiram, but I thought everyone knew that the "trivia notes" at IMDb are hardly an acceptable source of accurate information. If Sandler had contributed substantially to re-writes of THAT'S MY BOY, you can bet he would've had his agent/manager insist on a screenplay credit. As with all awards, we go with the credits that actually appear on-screen... ------------- Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are much more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. We should still keep an eye on the other releases, aside from IDENTITY THIEF. There's SIDE EFFECTS, starring BROKEN CITY's Catherine Zeta-Jones and Razzie Repeat Offender Channing Tatum (who's usually bad in serious roles), and, THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE, starring Razzie Repeat Offender Jet Li. By the way, this week TOP GUN is being re-released in 3-D and IMAX. In case you've never seen it and want to use this opportunity to...I say don't! TOP GUN currently ranks #57 (out of 68) on my All-Time Worst list -- right between QUEEN OF THE DAMNED (which I saw yesterday) and HOUSE OF THE DEAD. Finally, Ben Affleck won the DGA Award. I'm sure of this because they do write at least once a week. Why has this happened? I don't know. Steven Soderbergh didn't turned out any bad movies last year, so Side Effects might just dodge Razzie consideration. We also haven't really had any foreign films recently in contention for Razzies, so I don't think The Sorcerer and the White Snake will get a forum, even though Jet Li is a Razzie Repeat Offender. I'm positive that HeadRAZZ will choose current nominee ALEX CROSS as the Worst New Movie On DVD. I'd like to mention that SO UNDERCOVER starring Miley Cyrus (as well as Jeremy Piven) is also available, and its reviews are even worse than L.O.L.'s. That makes sense, because at least with that one, it was clear who the target audience was meant to be. You know, you're very lucky. The Super Bowl does air here (a country who's against American Football because we consider Soccer to be the real one), but not the famous commercials. So nobody watches the live broadcast. The TV movie LIZ & DICK just premiered here, and I feel like I was lied to. I was expecting Ed Wood level of quality. You know those funny recaps all over the net? They show just a few moments of the movie, and now I know why: there were only few moments like that. I'm not saying that the movie is good. Even by Lifetime standars*, it's boring and not insightful. And the sets look too fake. I'm just saying that it's not jaw-droppingly bad. I did my best to judge Lindsay Lohan fairly. There are a couple of moments where she's actually conveying emotions. The problem is that it feels like she's playing some character, not Elizabeth Taylor. And as far as the women who look like Taylor, which barely do because no one can look like her, I think that Lohan does resemble her enough. The rest of the time, it feels like it's her first time acting. And since I know how long she's been acting... Grant Bowler is also uneven, but a little better than Lohan. I think that the director deserves most of the blame. I know not every director can be worthy of an Oscar, specially one that (probably) has to work in TV movies. But if you're someone who's offered to work in a big project like this, you have to do your best. If your main actress throw something without any strenght, you talk to her and do another shot. If the shot still feels rehearsed, change the angle. But letting the final result contain bloopers and trying to pass them off as serious scenes is unprofessional. I give it a 3/10. *I gave THE CLIENT LIST a 6/10. Not sure how I feel about the TV series, though.
Maybe he'll wait to see the box office results, to see if it's a flop. According to him, that's a Razzie factor. ------------- http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com - http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.com |
