UPDATE from Head RAZZberry: Here's the http://www.razzies.com/forum/complete-list-of-all-2014-movie-releases_forum719.html - to check out our Complete List of 2014 Movie Releases.

And, just to get the discussion going, here's the  http://www.interiorleatherbar.com/ - to check out the website for one of the more bizarre early releases of the New Year: A James Franco-produced indie with an odd RAZZIE® connection. An exploration of sexual fear and homophobia in the "pre-AIDS era,"  INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR uses the device of "out-takes" from 1980 Worst Picture nominee CRUISING ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080569/awards - ) as its tasking off point. Daring for its time, considered semi-pornographic 34 years ago (and all but forgotten now) CRUISING was something of a mess in its heavily redacted released version, with a basic plot-line which was itself homophobic.

Not sure this one is a RAZZIE® contender, but it certainly looks like a unique notion for a motion picture...

Interesting, very interesting.

I heard a report about James Franco remaking Cruising, but I guess that was mis-communication.

Headrazz, just out of curiosity, do you think that film would have been better or worse if the "sex  scenes" were not cut out?

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: What CRUISING had set out to be was quite daring for 1980 -- A no-holds-barred look into the subculture of leather bars in NYC. What it ended up being, in part because of timidity and studio interference, was a dis-jointed, grim and grimy mess of a movie that openly suggested that being gay and being a psychopathic killer were somehow synonymous.

I can't say if leaving in the more graphic sexual material that William Friedken wrote and shot would have made the film any better or worse, since its basic premise was flawed. I think Friedkin's intention was to be sympathetic to the gay community, but his plot-line played on age old fears and mis-perceptions about homosexuality (which were even more prevalent 34 years ago). Even today, what Friedkin hoped to achieve with CRUISING would probably not be possible, but that long ago there was essentially no way to make such a film as a "mainstream" movie...

Now I know that our sights have already been set on The Legend of Hercules (which makes sense because it does star Twilight alumni Kellan and it is directed and co-written by four time Razzie nominated Renny Harlin) but this might also be - No, IT IS - another Mirror Mirror/Snow White and the Huntsman thing: There is another Hercules movie being released this year, directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

However, the movie Dumbbells looks like it should also get some consideration. It's co-written by (and starring) Brian Drolet, and if IMDb and Wiki are being truthful, the man was also a brief cast member in the "classic reality show"... The Hills . Yes. That BS with Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag (I can't believe I remember their names!).

The trailer for Dumbbells, http://www.razzies.com/forum/trailer-trash2014-edition_topic6377_post57720.html#57720 - which I posted on Trailer Trash 2014 , shows off cameos of has-beens Jaleel White and Fabio. According to IMDb, there is going to be more, from has-beens old and... older. The people I recognized were: Jay Mohr, Andy Milonakis (ugh), Carl Reiner, Oscar nominee Nancy Olson and Razzie "winner" Tom Arnold.

I would say that cast and premise combined should give this some major "Razzie pedigree," but how do you guys feel?

EDIT: Just posted the Red Band trailer too!

I wouldn't call Carl Reiner a "has-been". He's still appearing in movies and shows, and he usually does a good job. Also, months ago they aired here a special with a lot of Comedy Central's roasts shows. Everytime there was a "has-been" (George Hamilton, David Hasselhoff, Hulk Hugan, etc), the roasters would say it. Several times. Reiner appeared in one of them, and everyone treated him like a legend.

I wouldn't call Jay Mohr one either. He has never been a megastar. He has always been in supporting roles in major movies and shows, and in lead roles in small movies and shows.

A few comments on your awards, Vits:

Breaking Bad ended too. Why didn't you include that in your "In Memoriam?"

I am a little surprised you did not choose Kourtney Kardashian, but I guess that would have been too obvious.

Did Dads not air in your country? I ask because after all the bad things I heard about, I would have thought it would be all over your Worst list.

American Dad, I watched one recent episode because its premise intrigued me, but it was ruined by really unnecessary music numbers, which I thought it could have done without. It was the one that had Danny Glover guest star in it. I have a feeling, though, that American Dad is not going to last too long. It not only is going to be moved to a different channel, TBS, but it is also lost one of the people in charge of the show. Creative differences apparently. Not sure if it will make the show better or worse, but it certainly is a sign that it is going into life-support.

Hmm... Can I ask why Romeo Rose lost to Julie Ruin? At least they did not resort to auto-tune, which should never be used in rock.

I thought you hated Lana Del Rey.

I did not hear any hints of Pour It Up being "Electronic." I thought it was R&B.

While I did not think Moonbeams was a good song, I did not think it was worse than Adam Barfa- Excuse me, Adam Barta's song.

Though since it did win, that means both of John Lennon's sons won your awards (Sean Lennon is a part of Plastic Ono Band). I did not know Julian Lennon released a new song this year, let alone it being a duet with Steven Tyler. I just listened to it, and it was awesome.

A little mistake you made, but Pharrell (or Pharrell Williams, whichever) did not contribute anything to Busta Rhyme's Twerk It.

I personally thought Kid Cudi's Girls was worse than Immortal.

At first, I was like "How did this song 'Birds' beat out such crap like 'Lolly', 'Me Sexy', or 'Bubble Butt'. Heck, Karate Chop was awful based off that horrible pun about Emmett Till alone." Then I realize I never heard the song, so I looked it up, and "Wow, it was certainly not great to listen to, production wise."

While Mass Text is a pretty bad song, I thought It's Too Big was worse because they are singing about how big this man's privates is...

I still enjoyed finding out about songs and artists I never heard from before. That's really awesome you found them, and I also appreciate that you added in some older faces to the challenge.

If there was one true criticism I had with the entire video, its that you should have tried to make a joke about some of the winners of the Best/Worst. Otherwise, it is not as interesting. The video is still good, though.

Dwayne Johnson is a more believable Hercules than Kellan Lutz, so I have a very good feeling that Ratner one will be better.

Oiram, a lot of times I choose based on expectations. Why award worst acting to a non-actor playing him/herself when I can award it to an actor who's trying? Why award a YouTube musician who doesn't even have a demo of his song when I can award an artist who released the song as a single through an actual album? Why award a song with stupid lyrics with passable rhythm when I can award a song that sounds awful? Also:

1) BREAKING BAD's Season 5B premiered here a few weeks ago... at 3AM. Bastards! Maybe they thought people had already download it by now. Anyway, there are like 5 episodes left.
2) DADS hasn't aired here. And I haven't seen any promos or posters anywhere.
3) I hated Lana Del Rey's songs from last year. That doesn't mean I'll hate all of her music.
4) Aside from what I said above, MOONBEAMS is also pretentious.
5) Thanks. I'll fix the TWERK IT mistake.
6) If you go to the YouTube page, you'll see that Tay Allyn commented on the video.
7) Thanks for the tips!

Oh... and here's Part 2:

Intouchables, interesting. I did not know the movie was that popular. The last two years winners were blockbusters Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Avengers.

I'm surprised that Muse only got that one nomination.

I was not sure if you were going to group the entire Asap crew as a Band or you were going to look at them individually. Guess that answers my question. Also, I'm surprised that there were not that many bands and singers to have as Worst overall, but on the opposite end, you have a ton!

Wow! Guess I should listen to what Bonnie Tyler has released recently.

No surprise that you chose A Haunted House.

Interesting chose, Jagten (or The Hunt). That movie should be getting more attention. Mads Mikkelsen might end up being one of your favorite actors with that and Hannibal.

1) In the previous years, the Jury's Movie category was very tight. But this year, INTOUCHABLES got about 4/5ths of the votes!

2) None of Muse's songs individually were bad enough.

3) Why were there many more nominees for the best in music than for the worst? Maybe I've gotten less picky. That could also be why there more than 4 Best Movie nominees and less than 25 Worst Movie nominees.
LOL

4) Well, if you could, you should try listening to all of the winners you haven't heard of. But start with Bonnie Tyler and then we'll see.LOL

5) You're right that THE HUNT deserves more attention (I was surprised others voted for it for Jury's Movie). I was hoping maybe my awards would help with that. If not, then its future Oscar win (odds are all in favor) will. By the way, have you seen it? Has anyone here seen it?

The tagline (the one about the release date) is funny. But the poster makes it look like a National Lampoon direct-to-video movie. No, I don't mean "direct-to-DVD". I'm saying that the poster looks so dated that the movie might as well have been made before DVDs were invented.

I was confused. At first sight, it seemed like a very cheap movie. Then I noticed the minor celebrities and the sports movie clichés and I thought it was a FUNNY OR DIE video. By the end, it seemed like a real movie.

One of the down sides of the People's Choice Awards is that, because their voting opens around October and November, there are many good movies that don't get a chance of being nominated. Sometimes, they bend over the rules and nominate them for the next year. To stop this, they've created a new category for the movies released at the end of the year. And http://www.peopleschoice.com/pca/votenow.jsp - the voting is now open. Don't worry. I checked, and all the nominees are good movies.

I went to the movies and saw THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. Even though I loved it, I was still surprised it made it to the IMDB Top 250 so fast. Anyway, I thought I'd participate in the debate on whether or not it celebrates the main character's crimes. I don't think it does, because there are a couple of scenes that make it clear that we're not supposed to sympathise with JORDAN BELFORT nor with his co-workers, like when JORDAN pays 2 cops to beat up a gay guy (he stole from him, but it was clearly an act of homophobia), and when his friend DONNIE literally eats a fish. There's also the entire last part. Without spoiling anything (unless you wanna look up what happened to him), let's just say the movie becomes very similar to GOODFELLAS*. Any thoughts?

The numbers for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES went up and down so many times I got dizzy! In the end, its reviews aren't that bad. INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR (which HeadRAZZ mentioned in the very first post) and THE BEST OFFER got similar reviews. The inelegible OPEN GRAVE is the worst new release.

There's already a forum for THE LEGEND OF HERCULES. There are also 2 new movies in limited release, and they both have foreign directors (just something I noticed): THE TRUTH ABOUT EMANUEL (starring Razzie nominee Jessica Biel) and COLD COMES THE NIGHT (starring Alice Eve and Bryan Cranston). They both have early mixed reviews. Remember that we're in January, so we have to prepare ourselves for a whole lotta crap!

*Now I won't fight with people anymore when I tell them that I find GOODFELLAS to be overrated. I can now say "Watch the much better WOLF OF WALL STREET" and you'll see what I mean.

The DGA Awards tend to be very different from the Oscars. But this year, they've nominated Alfonso Cuarón, Paul Greengrass, Steve McQueen, David O. Russell and Martin Scorsese. Those 5 have been the frontrunners all along. Well, maybe Spike Jonze and Alexander Payne too. But Richard Linklater and the Coen bros. have barely received Best Director nominations this season.

Okay, so we are almost in the second movie week of January, awaiting the release of The Legend of Hercules...

So, anyways, since it was so obviously awful, the forum was made a week early, and because of that, we have more than enough time to take a look and consider next week, as we have quite a few movies being released. Now, the question isn't so much "Which will be good?" The question is "Which one will not be bad enough to deserve an official forum?"

Also, I am only focusing on four movies, if you guys don't mind.

First, there is The Nut Job. It is an animated movie about a squirrel who finds a nut shop, and gathers a crew to steal all the nuts in it. Now, this movie looks like most of the jokes are going to involve nuts, which will get annoying after a while. Heck, I don't think they will even be that funny to begin with. While the animation may look good in some areas, in others, not so much. Also, Katherine Heigl is part of the cast, and since she has been blacklisted, this will probably be the last movie you'll see her name attached to in a long while.

Yes, she's been blacklisted:

[TUBE]plTxA-O0A5M[/TUBE]

The next one to talk about is Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (I almost called the thing Jack Reacher .) This movie was supposed to come out on December last year, but because the people behind Wolf of Wall Street were hoping for Oscar potential, Jack Ryan got pushed back to January, and sometimes the fact that it got pushed back to this month speaks of how bad the movie will be. Razzie nominee Kenneth Branagh directs and plays the villain of the movie, so obviously this is not a high point for him. Chris Pine stars as the Jack Ryan character, and he has potential to pull it off, but the plot being represented in the trailers does not look anything special. Keira Knightley looks like she could have the potential too... the potential to annoy. Finally, we have Kevin "Was almost the new Stallone" Costner, returning to theatrical movies. If this video has the right information:

[TUBE]hBJR1w93GM0[/TUBE]

Then Kevin is essentially trying to be the Clark Gregg Agent Coulson of the movie. I have my doubts, looking at this, that it will take off in any way like that, and with movies that Kevin Costner is participating in through out the rest of the year, it looks like he could be returning to the Worst Actor ballot.

Another movie to look at is Ride Along. This movie is a buddy cop movie that stars Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. Mr. Cube has had highs and lows in his movie career, but I personally always found him enjoyable to watch. Kevin Hart is one of those guys that I never expected to have a movie career, especially when his first movies included Scary Movies 3 and 4, Superhero Movie, and Epic Movie...

However, he bounced back from all of that thanks to his comedy concert movies, which proved to be very successful, so I respect him for that. This movie, though, still has me doubting it will be good. They pretty much announced that there will be a sequel before there was even a poster for the movie, and even ignoring the fact it is a January release, the movie has SIX WRITERS!

SIX WRITERS!!!

Whenever you have that many writers in the movie, it is not going to turn out well.

Finally, the movie that has the potential of being the worst of the week is Devil's Due. Another found-footage horror movie, and right off the bat, the believability factor is gone by casting actors who have been in movies before.

Also in the cast is Robert Belushi, the son of Jim Belushi, and the nephew of the late great John Belushi.

The movie does not have anything new to it. It's like "Lets just put Rosemary's Baby in the found-footage genre" and that's all there is. And of course, since it is January release, it is guaranteed to be horrible.

So, which movies do you guys think deserves official forums the most?

Animated movies don't get a lot of Razzie attention. But THE NUT JOB sounds as silly as FREE BIRDS. Because of the history with the character, JACK RYAN could follow the same path as ALEX CROSS. But Kenneth Branagh has had a good career as a director (more consistent than this career as an actor), and he prooved with THOR that he's not limited to Shakespeare adaptations. Ice Cube and Kevin Hart have been in some bad movies, but they're at their best in R-rated comedies. DEVIL'S DUE is a mix of concepts, but so was CHRONICLE.

New releases here: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, and, 2 GUNS. What should I do?

Wasn't there a prequel TV series to Sex and the City that actually did pretty well? Maybe that renewed interest in the idea.

Anyways, since you're here, moviecritic1994, I would love to hear your opinion on this:

Which film do you think is most likely to get a Razzie forum? Nut Job, Devil's Due, Ride Along, or Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit?

The limited releases I mentioned a week ago didn’t have enough audiences or bad reviews to match THE LEGEND OF HERCULES. I already expressed my thoughts on who deserves a forum. But JACK RYAN is more likely to get it, for being the biggest release.

The 2014 Golden Globes were the best in years! Most of the winners were suprises:
-We all knew 12 YEARS A SLAVE was going to win. But at the end of the night, I noticed that it hadn’t won anything. GRAVITY was the only Best Movie-Drama nominee that had won in another category, so I thought it was going to win. So I was still surprised when they announce the winner.
-Best Movie Actor-Drama didn’t have a real favorite, so the winner was going to be a surprise no matter who it was.
-I thought either Bruce Dern or Oscar Isaac would win Best Movie Actor-Comedy.
-I thought Meryl Streep would win Best Movie Actress-Comedy.
-I thought BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR or maybe even THE HUNT would win Best Foreign Film.
-I thought either 12 YEARS or GRAVITY would win Best Score.
-I thought FROZEN would win Best Song.
-I thought Tatiana Maslany would win Best TV Actress-Drama.
-I thought anyone but Andy Samberg would win Best TV Actor-Comedy. When he did, I had a feeling BROOKLYN 99 would win Best TV Series-Comedy. It’s a pattern I’ve noticed over the years with new shows.
-I thought anyone but Amy Poehler would win Best TV Actress-Comedy (sorry, but she always loses).
-I thought Aaron Paul would win Best Supporting TV Actor.
-I didn’t know who would win Best Supporting TV Actress. I just wish Jacqueline Bisset does a better job preparing her speech next time.

Actually, a movie based on a card game isn't a bad idea. Unlike a board game, card games already have characters and a mythology. In fact, there are some successful (and good) anime shows based on card games. No, not POKEMON. That one was based on a video-game, and the card game was created after the show started.

From what I've read, that was a parody of another card game. So of course it couldn't work as a movie.

I'm glad that Jack Ryan's getting positive reviews. Not just because I won't have to create a forum, but because I'm glad that they didn't screw-up Clancy's legacy. As a fan of Clancy's Jack Ryan stories and the previous Jack Ryan movies (except for The Sum Of All Fears, that one sucked), I was concerned about the January release date. That's the main reason why I volunteered to create a forum for it.

My thoughts on the Oscar nominations:

1) Surprising snubs: INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS (it's only up for Cinematography and Soung Mixing); SAVING MR. BANKS (it's only up for Music Score); Tom Hanks in CAPTAIN PHILLIPS; Joaquin Phoenix in HER; Will Forte in NEBRASKAJames Franco in SPRING BREAKERS; 12 YEARS A SLAVE and ALL IS LOST for Music Score; CATCHING FIRE for Song.

2) Not surprising snubs: THE BUTLER; ENOUGH SAID; FRANCES HA; FRUITVALE STATION; MUD; RUSH; SHORT TERM 12; Robert Redford in ALL IS LOSTScarlett Johansson in HER; BEFORE MIDNIGHT and PRISONERS for Best Picture.

3) Good surprises: Jonah Hill in THE WOLF OF WALL STREET; PRISONERS for Cinematography; THE LONE RANGER for Visual Effects.

4) Bad surprises: THE CROODS instead of MONSTERS UNIVERSITY or even CLOUDY 2; THE LONE RANGER for Make-up.

5) Surprises I can't judge yet: BAD GRANDPA; THE BOOK THIEF; DALLAS BUYERS CLUB; ERNEST & CELESTINE; LONE SURVIVOR.

Don't worry. There isn't a movie nominated in every category. There isn't even a movie nominated for all 4 acting awards. So there can't be a sweep.

New releases here: GRUDGE MATCH, DIANA, THE FIFTH STATE, and, RIDDICK. Huh. I'd figure they'd release at least one Oscar contender, but instead they're releasing 2 Razzie nominees. Anyway, what should I do?

Yes, for Best Song. What about it?

Vheid, where have you been?

Last you came on, you were talking about posting pictures of a museum I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), but even after we said we're interested, you stopped posting for a while.

Are you still going to post that thing, or have you decided not to?

Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact.

Worst Supporting Actor: Brendan Fraser/Gimme Shelter and The Nut Job

The Lone Ranger got more Oscar nominations than Before Midnight. And one of its nominations is for Best Visual Effects and Pacific Rim isn't. How does that work? Other shameful omissions: Tom Hanks (both lead and supporting), Sam Rockwell, James Franco, Emma Thompson, Joaquin Phoenix, and Margot Robbie.

It looks like either THE NUT JOB or RIDE ALONG will get a forum. Now the question is: Will it be an official or member-started forum?

And TRANSFORMERS PART 3 got more nods than DRIVE. The number of nominations doesn't matter. If it did, all the Best Picture nominees would be the most nominated ones. Also, THE LONE RANGER used a lot less C.G.I. than PACIFIC RIM, which means the latter's effects will look dated sooner than the former.

I already mentioned those acting snubs, except for Rockwell and Robbie. People agreed that their performances were good, but she didn't get an individual acting nomination throughout the entire award season. He had like 3 or 4, but didn't win any of them. So I wasn't surprised they didn't make it.
