Oh my god, John Frankenheimer's Seconds is one of my all time favorite movies!!!! Like literally, Top 5 for reals. Also, hope you don't mind me asking, but should SONY-MAN 2 get shut out (which lets pray doesn't happen) would you support me in voting for Garfield as Worst Actor and substituting Marc Webb's Batman and Robin w/ Michael Bay's Trannies #4 in all categories? Except Marky-Mark and that Frasier dude who I thought did good w/ what they had. JOHNNY DEPP FOR TRANSCENDENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

And PLEASE respond soon.... I don't want to be all alone here.

I HATED Time Bandits because it was pretentious and boring, although admittedly visually interesting at times. What did you like about it so much as to award it an A+? Am I missing something, because I normally am a fan of surrealism if its done well. Heck, Barton Fink is one of my all-time favorite movies as well as IMHO one of the greatest motion pictures ever made.

I also responded to our Batman and Robin vs. Superman 4 conversation under the new TMNT forum and left a related question I'd appreciate answered. Remember, I respect your OPINION no matter what it may be, even if I don't agree w/ it.

I loved Time Bandits... I partially loved it because its the type of movie i would have loved had i seen it as a child... What do you consider to be surrealistic film, JacobD?

I can kind of see Time Bandits as a surreal film (it is a Terry Gilliam film after all), but pretentious? As for why I added it, I re-watched it a few days before I added it to my list of potential new favorite films and loved it even more than I did before.

Yeah, i have the nasty tendency to still see Surrealism as an art movement from a specific period... which as all art movements in the 20th century was a response to previous art/scientific movements and politic problems from that time... Thats why i am personally very reluctant to use words as immpressionistic, surrealistic, postmodernistic and such to describe a movie unless it was clearly made according to the thoughts and ideas of that specific art movement... Anyway to make a long story short i am overcomplicating things...

Due to the usual factors that elevate a film to my Best of the Year lists, such as high approval rating (A from pro critics, B+ from commoners), and either high box office numbers or several award accolades, I named Time Bandits to the Retro Top 40 Movies of '981 at #13.

I've been thinking. As SchumacherH8ter adds films to his Best of All Time list, which I'd estimate at 700-800 movies, I've been cleaning up my Ancient and Retro Best Movies lists, shuffling some rankings, and replacing some films that got C's from either pro critics or commoners with films that both crix and audiences could agree on. As it stands, my annual lists span 74 years since '940, and include 2000 films from before Jnr. 1, 2000 and 560+ good and 560 bad films since New Millennium's Day.

But before I post the collection under the "Movies in General..." forum, I feel like I would need permission from you people and perhaps even HeadRAZZ to join in on this trend, even if I didn't. But I would need to start a new thread for it!

Response to the following post by Vits: I made a forum for my lists back then, but three reasons why I should indeed... start a new one:

*That thread only covered my post-Y2K lists, not pre-Y2k
*They were old drafts long since rendered obsolete
*That thread is buried pretty deep

Two of the movies I inducted this week are short films that are available to watch on YouTube. The House Is Black, an Iranian documentary about a leper colony, and A Movie, a NSFW experimental film that was added to the Library Of Congress in 1994, are the two. I'd link to them, but I've had a Hell of a time linking to things lately so I'll just tell you guys about them.

You Only Live Once is Fritz Lang. What's your favorite film of his? Mine's Metropolis. I consider it one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made. It also has one of my all-time favorite movie quotes, "The mediator between head and hands must be the heart."

Also, if you've seen Metropolis, have you also seen the 2002 anime remake, and does it do the original justice, or is it not worth seeing?

The 2002 wasn't actually a remake because it doesn't share plot elements, but was based off a manga and was inspired by the Fritz Lang film. It was directed by Rintaro.
