THE ORIGINAL IS ALMOST ALWAZE BETTER -- BUT in THIS CASE, IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE: 1976 GREGORY PECK / LEE REMICK OMEN COMES 2 DVD in SPECIAL 2-DISC, EXTRA-LADEN EDITION...
With featurettes galore, multiple commentary tracks and lotsa other goodies, the way-scarier (and classier) original 1976 version of THE OMEN is coming to DVD in a Special Collectors' Edition this week. When Ye Olde Head RAZZberry worked at a first-run theatre in Westwood while attending UCLA in the late 70s, THE OMEN was one of the biggest box office hits that played there at the time. For 13 weeks (the longest engagement in the nearly 5 years Wilson worked at the theatre) OMEN scared audiences silly night after night, and Wilson would often spend his break time in the auditorium, studying the film's technical polish: its editing and wide-screen cinematography remain among the best of the era. Equally fun was standing below the huge movie screen, facing the audience, and watching them leap in terror at key points in the film. Although OMEN is erroneously listed in the Medved Brothers' FIFTY WORST FILMS OF ALL TIME, to most of us who love a truly well-made thriller, it remains a benchmark of high-class, high-octane horror movie-making. And now it's finally getting its due on DVD. For details on the DVD, CLICK HERE... |
