What is the name of the sprawling, skyscraper-lined city where The Dark Knight is set?

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Batman lives in the fictional "metropolis" of Gotham City -- but I believe exteriors for Gotham in DARK KNIGHT were actually shot on location in Chicago...

The exteriors were indeed shot in Chicago. When we visited there last summer, one of our tour guides pointed out a number of the buildings that were used for various scenes in the movie.

Technically, Batman first appeared in 1939 in Detective Comics. The Asian city in "The Dark Knight" was in Hong Kong, China, I think. What is with everyone asking about where the "TDK" was filmed? Is everyone going sight seeing for movie landmarks?
