Time for The Grudge 2, yet another sequel that I've reviewed this month that just retells the same exact plot of the first one. Now, I should mention my opinion on the first Grudge film. When I first saw it, I thought it was the scariest movie ever.* Nowadays, I know it's nowhere near the best ever, but I still like it.
The music in The Grudge 2 is really good. That's not hyperbole or me grasping at straws to say something positive. Christopher Young did a really good job scoring this. The acting is pretty crappy. Mrs. David Cross Amber Tamblyn is bland as Aubrey, the little sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar's character from the first film. Gellar also shows up for ten minutes and then falls off a hospital. Her acting is crappy too. And Jennifer Beals is hilariously bad as an American housewife. Why is there an American housewife in a movie set in Japan? The answer's in the next section. There's three plots going on at the same time in this movie. The movie's only 1 hour, 42 minutes, not very long by today's standards. The fact that they couldn't come up with one plot to fill in that amount of time is telling of the lazyness in store here. The main story is Aubrey's. It's a near exact copy of the first film's plot except less good. The second story involves three female students who go into the house from the first Grudge. There the naive Allison (played by future Vampires Suck star Arielle Kebbel), the bitchy Miyuki (played by Misako Uno), and the mega bitchy Vanessa (played by future I Am Number Four star Teresa Palmer). They all get killed off in boring ways. But there's one funny scene in this part: their school counselor Mrs. Dale goes to the house and gets killed. Then she attacks Allison in her office. The final story involves the haunting of an American family. There's a twist at the end and I won't give it away, but it's really dumb. But, the worst thing about The Grudge 2 is director Takashi Shimizu. Considering how he created the Grudge films, he should have know better than to make a crappy movie like this. It's apparant that he didn't give a sh*t about this. In fact of all the films I've reviewed this month, this might be the one that had the least amount of effort put into it. As poorly made as Birdemic, Shark Attack 3, and Troll 2 were, the quality wasn't because of a lack of caring. It was a lack of talent. The film I'm reviewing tomorrow might actually rival this in not-caring. Grade: D Next-up: Alien: Resurrection!! *Shut up, I was 12 and hadn't seen a horror movie older than 1997 yet.

Which sequel are you talking about: "Grudge 2" or "Ring Two"? Either way I agree with you.

I liked the first one, which was scarier than The Ring. The sequel, on the other hand, is more confusing and pointless, and has the exact same plot, which goes nowhere. It's just stupid -- spinning its wheels over nothing!

Glad to see this film on this forum, since this is one of the several upcoming films that are on my films no to go see list. Another thing that's pretty obvious is that October has always been the target for horror films to try and scare audiences in theaters.

The Mormons were'nt really popular in the beginning, they're now becoming more popular, even in Hollywood.

A SECOND HELPING of SOMETHING WE HAD TROUBLE SWALLOWING the FIRST TIME, GRUDGE 2 IS MORE of the SAME, EQUALLY LAME. PLUS IT LOOKS MORE SILLY THAN SCARY. BUT FEEL FREE TO WEIGH IN BELOW...IF YOU DARE!
