Graaah! My mother once wanted to see Vin Diesel live, but she's long since forgotten him, it seems. Isn't it ironic that both a movie with A. D. in its title got its own RAZZIE forum just five months after a movie with B. C.?
SAN JUU YON
RAZZIE Dirty Dozen: Battlefield Earth, F G Fingered, Pluto Nash, A Sound of Thunder, Alone in the Dark, Dirty Love, Rise Silver Srfr, Daddy Day Camp, IKWKM, The Love Guru, All About Steve, Airbender
Yeah, I think of the Saturn Sci-Fi Awards whenever I see saturnwatcher's name as well. This movie might get a nod or twoo from them, but I'm more than pretty sure "The Dark Knight" will take home everything at that award show. Much like I hope "Disaster Movie" will sweep at OUR award show.

Come to think of it, Saturnwatcher's name implies a connection to the Saturn Awards, which recognize the best in science-fiction. This film has a one-in-a-million chance of getting nominated for one of those, but I doubt it will.

But in terms of money, "Speed Racer" had the bigger budget (well into the hundred millions) while "Babylon" was in the 70 millions. In term of critics (at least those at RT), "Babylon" was the bigger bomb -- But in box-office-gross-versusd-budget, "Speed Racer" was the bigger loser...

I'm quite sure that 22/70 is slightly lower than 44/120, and that would actually make Babylon A.D. the biggest flop of the year (Speed Racer is doing better with the critics and users on Rotten Tomatoes as well).
"Speed Racer" is hands-down the biggest flop of the year. "Love Guru" only made back half of what it cost to make, and "Meet Dave" was lucky it even broke into the double digits...

Out of morbid curiosity, I decided to check out to the current total grosses on this film: On a budget of about $70 million, B.O. MoJo sez it has not even taken in $22 million (LINK). That makes this an even bigger Spectacular Failure than "Love Guru" (LINK) and almost as big a bomb as "Meet Dave" (LINK) -- though this year's Loss Leader has GOTTA be "Speed Racer" ($120 million budget/$44 million gross - LINK)...

If Hollywood understood irony, I'd have to say that the director of a derivitive, formulaic piece of clunk like "Babble on A.D.D." complaining that studio hacks "ruined the vision" of his film would be the ultimate example of it.
But as we all know, Hollywood doesn't understand irony...
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: I assume you mean the LINK to the article about the director of this film trashing the final cut and Fox for "ruining" it?? Here is the LINK once more --- It does make an interesting read...
Obviously you guys never read the article on how director Mathieu Kassovitz (and Vin Diesel) was disappointed at how Babylon A.D. turned out. Here's the story from WorstPreviews:
"Babylon AD" director Mathieu Kassovitz is not a happy man and he is making it very clear. In an interview with AMCTV, he reveals: "I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience."
He blames 20th Century Fox for "sending lawyers who were only looking at all the commas and the dots. They made everything difficult from A to Z." Then the studio interfered with the editing of the film, cutting it down to 93 minutes. This even astounded Vin Diesel, the star of the film, who was quoted as saying: "Am I even in the movie any more, or am I on the cutting room floor?"
According to Kassovitz, "Babylon AD," which is based on a French novel "Babylon Babies" by Maurice Georges Dantec, fails to deliver the book's messages. "It's pure violence and stupidity," he admits. "The movie is supposed to teach us that the education of our children will mean the future of our planet. All the action scenes had a goal, instead parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24."
At this point, Kassovitz regrets ever to have signed on with Fox. "I should have chosen a studio that has guts," he says. "Fox was just trying to get a PG-13 movie. I'm ready to go to war against them, but I can't because they don't give a sh*t."
Finally, the director feels that "Babylon AD" will likely have a strong first weekend, but will then die off after fans see how bad it is. "I don't see how people who went through all these amazing blockbusters like 'The Dark Knight' and 'Iron Man' this summer will take it."
Ooh, a "special award" for Worst Studio: 20th Century Fox!
I like it!

Considering that 20th Century Fox in 2008 released Meet Dave, The Happening, the unbelievably unnecessary X Files 2, Jumper, Meet the Spartans, Deception, 27 Dresses, What Happens In Vegas, Space Chimps, Mirrors, and now this (where even its own director has came out claiming its crap) can we have A Special Award for Fox? Pwetty please!?!
Response from Head RAZZberry: WOW! Whatta list!! I shall take your suggestion "under advisement."

This line of discussion is highly inappropriate... There is no need to debate the decency of The Fifth Element when this sucka is staring us in the face.
"Are you a killer?"
"Yeeeeessss... Get into the car"
