ABOUT THREE-QUARTERS of the WAY THRU 2009, HOLLYWOOD HAD ALREADY REMADE MOST of the WELL-KNOWN HORROR/SUSPENSE MOVIES. SO, THEY TURNED to REMAKING the NOT-SO-WELL-REMEMBERED ONES... THE ORIGINAL 1987 STEPFATHER WAS SOMETHING of a SLEEPER HIT, BUT WOULD HARDLY MAKE ANYONE's PRIORITY LIST of "CLASSICS" RIPE for BEING REMADE. THE PROMOs for THIS REMAKE MAKE IT LOOK LIKE STANDARD-ISSUE TEEN-AGERS-to-the-RESCUE / DRIVE-IN-QUALITY FARE. AND IT's FROM the DIRECTOR of the SURPRISINGLY NOT RAZZIE® NOMINATED 2008 REMAKE of PROM NIGHT. AT LEAST the TWO ADULT LEADS ARE ACTORS CAPABLE of GIVING GOOD PERFORMANCES...BUT WHEN THEY'RE GETTING GOOD MONEY to BE in DREK LIKE THIS... GOTTA GO NOW... I PLAN to BE ALL DRESSED UP and READY WHEN HOLLYWOOD ANNOUNCES the STAR-STUDDED MEMORIAL SERVICE for ORIGINALITY -- WHICH, CONSIDERING IT WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD in JANUARY, SHOULD BE HELD at FOREST LAWN ANY DAY NOW...
STEP-DAD: "Okay, who wants me to cut 'em the first slice of RAZZberry pie?!?!?" |

Gee, another holiday themed movie (like "I Hate Valentine's Day") that would have made more sense to be released on or around the actual day of the holiday. Overall, it's looks like the same old "my single parent is marrying someone who might be a serial killer, but no one believes me until it's too late" story.

Who would have thought that two days after the season premiere of Nip/Tuck, the star of Nip/Tuck would appear in something this horrendous?

Someone really needs to tell these people... If you don't have an idea for a movie, don't make a movie! Don't just remake something that no one's ever heard of just because you want to keep busy. Unfortunately, that's part of being an artist - you can't always find work, and you don't always get to make @#$%loads of money...

Well, actually, it makes sense releasing it like a week or 2 before the actual date because if you release it on the date, then Christmas/Thanksgiving comes right around the corner. I can see why the studios do that but I don't understand why H2 was released at the end of August. |

*rolls eye*
Between crappy remakes like this and torture porn like Saw, horror's dead in Hollywood. It's only the horror comedies like Zombieland and indie films such as Paranormal Activities that are keeping the horror movie on life support. That's all I have to say. Interestingly, this director has directed episodes of good shows such as Prison Break and Nip/Tuck. Guess not everyone can be like JJ Abrahms when transferring from TV to the big screen. There's also another stinker coming out this week: Law Abiding Citizens |

What do Christmas and Thanksgiving have to do with Father's Day, which is in June? This movie is months late for what could have been a more ironic (and ideal) release date.

I was talking about Halloween, not Father's Day -- but that would have been interesting. I find it cool that there have been a stepmother and stepfather movie in the same year: This and The Uninvited, which came out earlier this year.

I have a friend who saw this last night, and she said that the opening is pretty much the spoiler for the whole movie: the stepfather is evil and the audience has to spend the rest of the movie waiting for the characters to find out about it.

But isn't that the point?

How's this for a point: make a good movie that has a plot that can't be predicted within the first 2 seconds of the trailer. So far, "Paranormal Activity" is the ONLY horror movie to do that this year. But wait, it's an indie movie, no wonder it was GOOD. |

So where's the star-studded memorial for cinematic originality?
Knott's Scary Farm of Southern California and even America's Most Wanted promoted this...only to lose. What a shame. I was born in late 1990 going on 1991, so before long (I'd estimate around 2014), they'll be remaking horror movies from after I was born.

When Grand Theft Auto revolutionized the "sandbox" gameplay style, it also agitated politicians everywhere. Should a film adaptation be so hideously violent...
