I made a mistake. You see, I just saw ZACK & MIRI MAKE A PORNO (5/10) and read that Smith complained about the box office results. The movie costed $24 million and grossed $42 million. That's almost twice, but because Smith and the producers were expecting it to make 3 times it's budget, it was a flop in their eyes. And I thought that one of the points of the movie (looseley based on how Smith made CLERKS) was to show the troubles aspiring filmmakers have when they're starting. They usually don't make money. So why was he wining about his movie basically a hit?

Apparantly, Kevin SMith's mad at the Oscars. He gives several legitimate reasons to be angry, but it's obvious that the real reason he's mad was that they didn't nominate Red State. Yeah -- the Academy was definitely going to nominate a movie with middling reviews in a genre they rarely honor!

Yeah, Ben Affleck was a bit of a cop outLOL. Mel Gibson would have been a better choice.

Since he didn't have this attitude until this movie, and he has made bad movies in the past, I think it's because most critics said "It puts him in perspective now that he has directed a movie he didn't write. He's not a director". Based on the bad camera work, the nonsensical editing and the unthrilling action sequences, I'd agree but first I'd prefer to see a movie he directs without writing and without getting high.

I agree with what it says about Smith and Daniel Day Lewis. Also with Tarantino, except for the part about the INGLORIOUS BASTERDS ending. I think they're looking too much into it. As for Affleck... that can be said of everyone who has made good and bad movies... which is everyone (like you said).

The reason is that it revealed Smith to be a big baby. Everyone* craps out a bad movie sometime and every sane person in Hollywood knows this. I assumed Smith was sane, but I was wrong. This describes it better: http://www.cracked.com/blog/4-great-artists-who-make-it-really-hard-not-to-hate-them/

Also, and this is kind of petty on my part, he always rags on Mallrats, which is miles better than Cop Out. I know it's dumb, but it's funny.

When Smith made that comment, my respect for him died instantly.

I just saw it, and I'll review it soon. Meanwhile, this might interest you:

1)This was Kevin Smith's highest grossing movie so far. However, as his first big studio movie, it's one of his few to cost more than $20 million. It cost 30 and grossed 44 in the U.S. and 55 worldwide. So it's still kind of a flop.
2)Smith backlashed to critics about how they didn't like a movie that was meant to be nothing more than fun. This reminded of someone who wrote a comment on one of my reviews about how it would be my fault if cinemas and video-stores close for saying bad things about a movie. This people understand the concept of a review, right?

Any thoughts?

Sadly, yes he did. I think he could have done better.

If those movies would've been released on DVD now, they probably would've already.

Based on an unrated trailer I saw, it does have his style of dirty jokes and sex humor, but at least Kevin can take those trademarks and put them in a story with heart, ie. "Chasing Amy". The writers of this don't seem able to do that.

That may have to do with the fact this is the first movie directed by Kevin Smith, but not written by him.

I'm a Kevin Smith fan, too, but if he makes a bad movie, I'm not going to praise him about it.
