I'm gonna have to disagree with Orca not being funny. The whale baby falling on the ship? Hilarious. The casual way it was washed off? More hilarious. Bo Derek losing a leg? Crowning moment of funny! OK, a lot of other scenes were hard to sit through, but those three scenes ALONE more than made up for it.

I said there were dozens of shark attack themed horror movies made over the course of the past three decades, I never said any of them were wildly successful, but they exist. Most of which are made by, you guessed it, The Asylum or SyFy Channel! However, you can easily spot these kind of movies at your local Best Buy or other DVD retail store, that was what I meant by living under a rock.
As for this flick getting under 30% at Rotten Tomatoes and Meta Critic ... come on, of course! What do you expect from a movie that's true selling point was it being a weak sauce version of "Girls Gone Wild ... With A Shark"!?

R.T.(16-20%):"A joyless excursion into the water that doesn't even produce good gore or nudity thanks to the neutered PG-13 rating".That could mean it's a contender, expect it seems it's already been forgotten.
If there is one thing I hate on this earth in the cinematic world it is watered down PG-13 horror movies. Go all in with films like these or don't go in! You are either something or you are not. Don't give us horror fans this PG-13 nonsense. It may have been better if they had just gone all in and made the film that stuff like this is supposed to be.
I agree with you My Lord Naseby, If you are going to release something that is going to be sensless crap you might as well do it as it was meant to be in it's proper format. However, the producers probably have an extended DVD cut of this triffle to be rolled off the presses in November anyways. So you can catch it in its full prosterior then.

I always thought that watching horror movies just for the T&A was/is a stupid concept. There's other outlets for that sort of thing. It's called porn, and it's never PG-13!

It's not that. I just dislike lukewarm films that go against what it should be. If an action film had one fight scene in it with a small pistol with a few rounds and that was it and the rest was crappy dialogue that would suck as an action film! we need the action scenes and explosions for it to be a good action film. (some people can't even do those right *cough* Michael Bay *cough*)

Yeah, did does seem we have either get a drought or a flood, with no middle ground in between.

You guys are right.I mean, the concensus on PIRANHA 3D was that it was good because it delivered everything you'd expect from a Summer movie with that premise.

Yeah, but I rank that movie as a "turn your brain off and enjoy the mindless fun" flick. That probably what Zack Snyder was going for with "Sucker Punch", but failed.

I didn't think Sucker Punch was meant to be mindless entertainment like Piranha 3D. I thought it had a lot to say and there were some mature themes including possible rape and sexual abuse. I thought it was a very good movie because it wasn't some mindless film.

Maybe.Critics forgive and even praise those types of movies when they're released in the summer.

Not all of the critics. As for this movie, it was its own weird hybrid of Cowboys and Aliens, except this was spring break movie, mixed with shark attack movie, mixed with bank heist movie. In the end, it's one big ugly mess.

A lot of movies are criticized for pandering to an audience, but I don't think they should be panned just for pandering. Hugo shamelessly panders to film buffs, but it's an EXTREMELY well-made film! It's films that pander to an audience, but fail miserably that deserve panning. Films like Shark Night 3D, that tries to pander to fans of sleazy bloody boobie movies, but doesn't seem to realize why people "like" those types of movies.
The good:
Sara Paxton and Katherine McPhee in bikinis: Pretty much self-explanatory.
Malik: Malik is a football player who gets his arm bitten off by a shark. Later in the film, he punches the shark out with his remaining hand. The film should have been more of that and less of the actual movie.
The music video: After the credits, there's a music video that is a good indication of what the film should have been! Malik's solo is a higlight.
The bad:
Sara Paxton and Katherine McPhee's acting: They may look good in bikinis, but their acting lives much to be desired. If you want to see Paxton in an actually scary movie, go order The Innkeepers OnDemand.
The special effects: The shark effects are terrible, but not as hilarious as the ones in Shark Attack 3: Megalodon!* Also, I heard that the 3D effects weren't good.
The ugly:
The message: The message of the film seem sto be that people who watch violent movies all really want to watch REAL violence. Hypocritical because the film itself is violent.
The PG-13 rating: It desperately wants to be the Piranha 3D of 2011, but it doesn't want to lose the valuable money of teenagers. This leads to the biggest failing of the film:
The failure to commit to being a sleazy bloody boobie movie: I've never seen a film that rips-off a movie without realizing what made it "good" so badly in my movie watching career. The biggest example would be the dog in the movie. Dogs survive disaster movies. (i.e. Armageddon, Independence Day, 2012) Dogs don't survive these types of movie! I'm not saying I want to see dogs being eaten, but it just shows how the filmmakers didn't want to commit to their movie.
The reason why this review was posted later than usual is because I fell off the Pokemon wagon. Grade: C-
To explain, yesterday was my nephew's birthday party and because of my schedule, I didn't learn of it until Thursday. Since I didn't have a lot of time to shop, I just gave him some of my old GBA Pokemon games since he likes the show. He made me play with him and man, those games are like heroin: easily addictable and hard to quit.
As for why I spoilered that part, it didn't feel right to reveal something that happens at the end of the credits.
