Here's my situation with Netflix: I use their 1 DVD out at a time plan. The price point was just over 9 Daura a month with taxes. I handed over streaming service to avoid paying any more. Here are my questions about my next move:

1) Is Netflix going to raise the price of 1-DVD-No-Streaming plans very high?

2) Is it possible that Netflix's fanbase is overreacting?

3) All of my movies that I've rented from Netflix were from 2000 and after (The New Millennium is my specialty). If Netflix should go out of business because of this bad publicity or any other reason, where would you recommend I look for films released in this same time window?

4) What would be the biggest pros and cons to joining the Exodus from Netflix?

And an extra question to HeadRAZZ: Why aren't most of the latest topics showing up whenever I click on "Talk Amongst Yourselves"?

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: If you want your recently posted topics to appear near the top of the listings, you will need to mark them  "Sticky Topic" (when posting a first entry for any subject, look for this box in the Upper Right of your screen). If not, only those subjects others marked "Sticky" will appear near the top...

In my opinion, Netflix is your best bet. Even with the price increase, you will not find a lower price anywhere else. Blockbuster.com's monthly DVD rental is $9.99 and sites like Hulu, YouTube, and Amazon.com charge $3.99+ PER rental. So for the flat rate of roughly $17 for one DVD and unlimited streaming, you have a great deal over other options that can cost you three times that amount if you rent more than two or three movies a month.

Now I just need a plan of action if Netflix goes out of business! All over the internet, I've heard rumors saying that this public relations disaster could force Netflix out of business, and I need a refuge if those rumors are all true.

I think the reports of Netflix's end being near are a little too soon to call. Yes, Netflix lost alot of money, but it's still the best movie bargin out there (unless you count RedBox, which could be your Plan B in the event Netflix MIGHT go under).

But this is all part of Hollywood's plan. The studios saw Netflix was taking all their business and they didn't like it, so now they want the company gone. First it was the 28 day delay in between the movies' DVD release and the time you could rent them on Netflix, now it's the price increase, and in four months' time, all Starz content will be removed. It's all about Hollywood making sure you have no other opinions besides seeing movies in theaters and watching TV programs through your cable provider.

Netflix may not go under just yet, but it is only a matter of time. Within 5 years, probably less, every movie ever made is going to be available on demand whenever you want it on your TV.  So I wouldn't be too concerned.

That would be great, but I'm sure all of Hollywood will be kicking and screaming to stop it from happening the entire time (if it's on a "monthly fee" and not a "per-rental" fee basis), so I would give NetFlix more like 10-20 years.

I still think it will happen sooner than that. In all probability, certain movies will be available for free, some relatively inexpensively, and the newest releases may be priced similarly to current video rental fees. All the necessary technology already exists, so it won't be long.

Netflix's great plan is to just sell their DVD rentals under a different company name.

Wow, what a plan!

Then I'd best tell my family that the DVD industry could be on its way out, but before I forget: Are you saying that I should look forward to streaming past movies on a computer or on TV? If I should buy TV service, what level do I need, and what'll be the price? What else should I look into?

Well, I'm just a lover of movies, so I'm willing to watch whatever Netflix has to offer on their streaming list, be it old movies, indie flicks, inernation movies, etc. Like I said, you're other chooses are Comcast On Demand, Amazon.com, Hulu, and YouTube, but you have to be willing to pay per movie, rather than a monthly flat rate. Think of it as like a prepaid phone vs. a cell phone on a contract. You can pay in full up front and get unlimited minutes/texts/data, or you can pay small amounts which add up over time to form an even larger bill. The choice is your's.

I don't think the DVD industry will die completely, but it will lose most of the relevance it has now. I don't think you will see any more attempts to upgrade with experience ala Blue Ray because those kinds of upgrades just won't be necessary.

Everyone claimed that Blu-Ray was going to be the downfall of DVDs, and yet, you don't hear much about Blu-Ray being 90% of the home entertainment market either. People are always looking for the next big thing, but they are almost never right on what will be a success and what will fail.
