DISCUSSION of CONTENDERS
for OUR MID-YEAR WORST PICTURE POLL...

WITH 2014 APPROACHING ITS MID-POINT (and NOTHING TRULY ATROCIOUS OPENING THIS FRIDAY) WE DECIDED to START UP a BACK-and-FORTH AS to WHAT'S LIKELIEST (and MOST DESERVING) of WORST PICTURE CONSIDERATION AMONG the 306 FILM RELEASED SO FAR (LINK to LIST).

AS MANY of YOU KNOW, THERE ARE 3 PRIME FACTORS USED to DETERMINE WHAT CONSITUTES RAZZIE® FODDER:

CRITICS' RATINGS at ROTTEN TOMATOES...

BOX OFFICE GROSSES (ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED w/PRODUCTION BUDGETS) and

WHAT WE CALL "RAZZIE® PEDIGREE" -- the FILM-MAKERS' PREVIOUS HISTORY with OUR AWARDS.

BASED on THESE FACTORS, the FOLLOWING 12 TITLES (EACH w/a FORUM LINK for MORE INFO) APPEAR to BE AMONG OUR CURRENT "FRONT-RUNNERS":

Ah-Nuld in SABOTAGE

Tyler Perry's THE SINGLE MOM'S CLUB

AZ ALWAZE, ANYONE IS WELCOME to MAKE a CASE for OTHER TITLES, and WE ENCOURAGE YOU to DO SO.

ONCE the DISCUSSION's BEEN GOING for a WHILE, we'LL CULL the RESULTS and CREATE a "MID-YEAR WORST PICTURE POLL," WHICH WE HOPE to HAVE UP-and-VOTEABLE NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, JUNE 1.

UNTIL THEN...

FIRE AWAY!

Right now, it looks to me like a four way battle between Legend of Hercules, Need for Speed, Transcendence, and Winter's Tale. When Blended is added, it'll be a five way.

For now, I'm going with Legend of Hercules.
Elizabeth Hartman and Judith Barsi are more talented and beautiful than Scarlett Johansson and Chloe Grace Moretz. Fact.

Worst Supporting Actor: Brendan Fraser/Gimme Shelter and The Nut Job

I'm going to have to go with Pompeii since it's the only one of these that I've seen.

How satisfying is to see I Frankenstein in the list? A lot!
It could not be otherwise.

So far, it 's the film that most made me shudder!

I'd say Legend of Hercules, Winter's Tale, Endless Love and possibly Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return are major possibilities for Worst Picture. I have a feeling Blended could be nominated as well, considering the fact that Adam Sandler is in it... and really that's all a film needs in order to be nominated for Razzies at this point!

I'm definitely not going to rule out Blended as a likely contender. Frank Coraci's directed some pretty bad films involving Adam Sandler, such as Around the World in 80 Days [remake] (Bottom 40 Films of '004, #8), Click (Bottom 40 Films of '006, #39), and Zookeeper (Bottom 40 Films of '011, #9). But the question I have about Blended is: HOW bad will it be? Only to the degree of You Don't Mess With the Zohan (Bottom 40 Films of '008, #40), or *Shivers* Jack and Jill bad? (Bottom 40 Films of '011, #1) It'll probably be somewhere in between. Which means it may fit perfectly somewhere on the Bottom 40 Films of '014 next winter, but unless its approval rating is at least as low as Grown-Ups' (10%) (Bottom 40 Films of '010, #13), it's bound to have stiff competition from The Legend of Hercules to win worst picture. But enough about Sandler for now.

Here are my 20 prime contenders for my Bottom 40 list so far, by order of priority BEFORE Blended:

20. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones
19. That Awkward Moment
18. Nick Cassavetes' The Other Woman
17. Ride-Along
16. The Nut Job
15. The Single Moms' Club //Not as hated as Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor
14. Walk of Shame //only a limited release
13. 3 Days to Kill
12. Winter's Tale
11. Vampire Academy
10. Pompeii
9. Need For Speed
8. Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return
7. Transcendance
6. David Ayer's Sabotage
5. A Haunted House 2
4. Endless Love [remake]
3. Devil's Due
2. I, Frankenstein
1. The Legend of Hercules

If only the poll function allowed for 20 options...

P.S.: The halfway point of the year is June 30 and July 1, for those of you who think it's June 1.

It somehow feels a bit too early for this forum to me, because prime contenders like Blended, Transformers 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Atlas Shrugged 3 and Human Centipede 3 still need to open...

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: The Mid-Year Poll on Worst Picture is merely a way of getting Forum Members' feedback on what titles are likely contenders thus far -- It in no way implies that any titles released later in the year will not also be considered. It's essentially intended to be taken in a spirit of fun, and not to be seen as seriously as you seem to be thinking of it...

So far i would have to put The Legend of Hercules, I, Frankenstein, Pompeii and Transcendence on my short list.

And I'd suggest adding Transcendence to Oiram's list for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel (based on it being a remake of Lawnmower Man).

Jamie Foxx and ESP. Dane DeHaan (The *not*Amazing Spider-Man) MUST both be considered for Worst Supporting Actor for this year's Razzies list to have ANY legitimacy...also, Kate Upton is clearly a Supporting Actress in The Other Woman...
FYC: WORST Acting Performances of 2014 include: Johnny Depp (X2), Kevin Costner (X3), Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Seth MacFartlane, Sandler (X3), Rob Reiner, Dan Aykroyd (X2), and YES Diane Keaton!

Aw, I was hoping Winter's Tale would have stayed up there. If I were to take out one film to put Winter's Tale in, probably Legends of Oz.

Anyways, I choose Legend of Hercules.

I think Sandler was actually nominated 23 times.

If he gets further nominations, it will probably be his 24th and 25th, and Drew Barrymore will be getting a 4th nom as well.
