WE THOUGHT WE'D "GET the BALL[OT] ROLLING" by JUMP-STARTING a DISCUSSION of WHO WE THINK THE LIKELIEST WORST ACTOR CHOICES for 2012 ARE GONNA BE.
BASED on MEMBER POSTINGS HERE on the FORUM, R.T. REVIEWS, BOX OFFICE GROSSES and WHAT WE LIKE to CALL "RAZZIE® PEDIGREE," the DOZEN or SO STRONGEST CONTENDERS as WORST ACTOR of 2012 SEEM to BELONG in 3 GROUPS: REPEAT OFFENDERS: NICOLAS CAGE (PREVIOUSLY NOMINATED 5 TIMES) ELIGIBLE for BOTH GHOST RIDER 2 and SEEKING JUSTICE (HIS 3rd 2012 RELEASE, STOLEN, APPEARS to HAVE FALLEN SHORT of QUALIFYING for CONSIDERATION) COLIN FARRELL (PREVIOUSLY NOMINATED for HIS "LUCKY CHARMS ACCENT" in ALEXANDER) ELIGIBLE THIS YEAR for TOTAL RECALL... EDDIE MURPHY (TOO MANY NOMINATIONS and "WINS" to LIST -- AMONG THEM WORST ACTOR of the DECADE for the 1990s) WHOSE 2012 RELEASE A THOUSAND WORDS SCORED a PERFECT ZERO at ROTTEN TOMATOES... ADAM SANDLER (LAST YEAR's CHAMP, WHOSE JACK & JILL WAS the FIRST FILM EVER to "WIN" EVERY AWARD WE GAVE) WHO COULD/SHOULD BE BACK for MORE (WELL-DESERVED) ABUSE with THAT'S MY BOY! ...and SLY STALLONE (OUR ALL-TIME CHAM-PEEN) BACK in HARNESS (and POSSIBLY BACK in CONTENTION?) for the UTTERLY REDUNDANT EXPENDABLES, TOO... WE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL NEW-COMERS to OUR PARTY: TAYLOR KITCH, with the IRRESISTABLE KITSCHY COMBO of BATTLESHIP and JOHN CARTER... LIAM NEESON, WHO'S CLEARLY the LEAD ACTOR in TAKEN 2, as WELL AS PLAYING PROMINENT ROLES in BOTH BATTLESHIP and WRATH OF THE TITANS (FEEL FREE to DISCUSS WHETHER the LATTER TWO ROLES QUALIFY LIAM as WORST LEAD or WORST SUPPORTING)... TYLER PERRY (WHO's PROBABLY a SHOO-IN for a 2012 WORST ACTRESS NOMINATION for MADEA's WITLESS PROTECTION) and WHO'S UNDER CONSIDERATION HERE for GOOD DEEDS (and/or ALEX CROSS)... BENJAMIN WALKER (WHO COULD BE OUR "BIZARRO WORLD" EQUIVALENT of POSSIBLE BEST ACTOR OSCAR CONTENDER DANIEL DAY-LEWIS in SPIELBERG's BIO of OUR 16th PRESIDENT) UP for a POSSIBLE RAZZ-ing for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER... ...and SAM WORTHINGTON, WITH HIS DUO of 2012 BOX OFFICE/CRITICAL DUDS: MAN ON A LEDGE and WRATH OF THE TITANS... ...THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL NOV/DEC RELEASES THAT LOOK to HAVE at LEAST SOME RAZZIE® POTENTIAL: OBVIOUSLY, PATTINSON and LAUTNER for SUREFIRE RAZZIE® FODDER TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING WIND, PART 2... MAYBE BILLY CRYSTAL for PARENTAL GUIDANCE... ...OR CHRIS HEMSWORTH for the POINTLESS RED DAWN REMAKE (and POSSIBLY SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN?)... ...and FINALLY, SETH ROGAN in GUILT TRIP. FEEL FREE to LOBBY FOR, DISAGREE and/or DISAVOW ANYONE LISTED HERE -- AS WELL AS ADDING ANY NAMES YOU THINK WE MAY HAVE OVER-LOOKED. WE CAN'T WAIT to HEAR YOUR BERRY MUCH APPRECIATED FEEDBACK! |

What about two time nominee Gerard Butler for Chasing Mavericks and Playing for Keeps? He could end up being a potential nominee, though it might not be a guarantee.
Also, John Cusack in The Raven and Kevin Kline in Darling Companion were pretty bad.
As for those already listed: Even though I thought the first trailer for Jack Reacher looked like Generic Action Movie: The Movie, the second trailer looked like there could be some potential, but I wasn't going to hold my breath. I really think we should wait until Jack Reacher comes out before we decide.
I was actually wondering if Lautner could still be considered Worst Actor since this last Twilight movie is his only movie this year. I guess that answers the question.
I think it would be better if Neeson was Worst Actor for just Taken 2 and if he was Worst Supporting Actor for Battleship and Wrath of the Titans, because I believe he has a better chance of winning the latter.
So, I'm guessing you did not think Savages (Taylor Kitsch's third movie) is Razzie worthy?
Lastly, and this is just personal preference, but I feel like Chris Hemsworth should not be punished yet. I'd feel better if he started makng flop after flop after flop, and then I'll think "Okay, consider him." I know you LOATHED the original Red Dawn, but I'd rather have Josh Peck as a Worst Actor contestant instead -- or just see Red Dawn as a Worst Remake/Rip-off contestant.
So, yeah, that's all I have to say. Well, actually, I would like to know if more polls like this are coming shortly?
EDIT: I forgot to mention who would be the "TOP FIVE" and "WINNER"
I think it is a no brainer that Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, and Nicolas Cage will be nominated. I believe it will be mostly a race for the last two spots between Neeson, Kitsch, Worthington, Pattinson, Lautner, Perry (for BOTH Alex Cross and Good Deeds), and maybe Stallone.
As for winner, it has to be Cage. This could be the last time he will be eligible, and we don't want him to miss a win, now do we?

I'm SO glad you didn't list any joint nominations! I can't even think of many more plausible nominees than the 12-14 you listed above. However, there are some kinks in the selection of films:
*Even if it's (beep)ing Sylvester Stallone, I wouldn't recommend The Expendables 2 for the nomination ballot until I can remember how the 13 out of 20 approval rating was refuted. *Liam Neeson should receive one Worst Actor nomination for Battleship, Wrath of the Titans, and Taken 2. That way all 3 films can be RAZZed, plus more room is saved for the Worst Supporting Actor nomination.
*Battleship was Taylor Kitsch's only bad film. I keep forgetting why John Clarter deserves RAZZIE nominations so much apart from the 1/4 Gigadollar budget, and even then I thought I heard somewhere that it grossed more than that on the planetary cinema market. And Oliver Stone's Savages was not an official RAZZIE contender, and had a middling approval rating, so Savages is right out!
*Tyler Perry should probably just be nominated for Madea's Witness Protection and Alex Cross. Otherwise, why didn't you start the forum for Good Deeds back in February if you thought Tyler Perry was worse than Jennifer Aniston?
*Rock of Ages was average, indeed MUCH better than That's My Boy (same release date of June 15), so I hope that doesn't get RAZZed. But Jack Reacher looks far better than This is 40, Parental Guidance, or The Guilt Trip.

What I consider contenders: -John
Cusack in THE RAVEN, -Zac Efron
in THE LUCKY ONE, -T. Kitsch in BATTLESHIP, JOHN CARTER and SAVAGES -- While he
was more passable than usual in SAVAGES, he was still weak. And I don't think nominating average movies in acting categories is unfair. That being said, I'm
still against JC for Worst
Picture. -A.
Sandler in THAT'S MY BOY, -B. Walker in AL:VH. Contenders
I know won't make it: -Gael García
Bernal in A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN, -Tom Hardy
in THIS MEANS WAR, -Chris Hemsworth in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, -Aaron Johnson in SAVAGES, -Channing
Tatum in HAYWIRE and THE VOW, -Denzel
Washington in SAFE HOUSE. My front-runners: -Nicolas Cage in GR2 and SJ. -Sam Worthington in MOAL and WOTT. Although I haven't seen TAKEN 2 yet, it does seem to me a good idea for Neeson to get just 1 nod for all his titles, even though he barely did anything in BATTLESHIP or WOTT. |

I've said in the past -- that story-line had enough closure in KNOCKED UP. But I don't think it'll be Razzie-worthy (and it didn't sound like GTA thought so either). It'll probably be decent but disappointing, like FUNNY PEOPLE.

My five Worst Actor picks (at the moment) are:
Jason Beghe for Atlas Shrugged Part II, Nicolas Cage for Ghost Rider 2 and Seeking Justice, Eddie Murphy for A Thousand Words, Adam Sandler for That's My Boy, Sam Worthington for Man On A Ledge and Wrath Of The Titans
I know very well that Beghe probably won't make it -- But I gotta represent the only Rotten Asshole of the year!

Great list!
My Top Five (in no particular order yet):
1. Nicolas Cage for Ghost Rider 2. Sam Worthington for Man On A Ledge and Wrath Of The Titans 3. Adam Sandler for That's My Boy 4. Taylor Kitsch for Battleship and John Carter 5. Either Pattinson or Lautner for Breaking Dawn Part 2 OR, if neither one of those two Twilight Boys makes the cut, one of these Runners up: Channing Tatum (because he is a sucky actor and I don't care what people say how supposedly heartfelt it was, his speech at the end of Magic Mike "B-B-But that is Magic Mike, and this is M-M-Me", did not make me feel the least bit of sympathy for the character). Benjamin Walker for Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter BTW: I personally thought Hemsworth was pretty much the only good thing about Snow White & The Huntsman (apart from the dwarves). |

These are the films I'm hoping will NOT be nominated that have already been mentioned in this thread:
Safe House (Feb. 10, 53% approval): No forum. Who keeps bringing this film up? Tyler Perry's Good Deeds (Fbr. 24, 32% approval): If this was worse than Wanderlust, why didn't Good Deeds get a forum instead?) Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (Mar. 2, 38% approval): First a publication on a site I can't remember, now Antilsu! If enough people hated this film, why didn't it get a forum here? John Carter (Mar. 9, 51% approval): You better make D*** sure this doesn't get on the ballots, especially for Worst Picture! A Little Bit of Heaven (May 4, 4% approval): There's a small handful of people putting intense pressure on us to RAZZ this, but it must've been quite small to not have gotten a RAZZIE forum. A film this small with so little RAZZIE pedigree doesn't deserve to waste a nomination. Snow White and the Huntsman (June 1, 49% approval): No forum. At least it wasn't Piranha 3DD. Rock of Ages (June 15, 41% approval): No forum. At least it wasn't That's My Boy. Magic Mike (June 29, 80% approval): With such a high approval rating, this would be a huge waste of space on the list of finalists! Oliver Stone's Savages (July 6, 51% approval): Easy to understand why it didn't get a forum after weighing Kitsuchi against the middling reviews, but does this HAVE to be RAZZed? The Expendables 2 (Aug. 17, 66% approval): Where's the refute for the approval rating? Chasing Mavericks (Oct. 26, 34% approval): No forum. At least it wasn't Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. Lay the Favorite (Dec. 7, 26% approval): Though it's a limited release, would you like it to get a forum? Freelancers and Occupy Unmasked: Extremely small films that absolutely no-one else would recognize, even considering they were limited releases! RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Some of your points above are well taken, but I most enjoy hearing your arguments in defense of JOHN CARTER - A movie frequently cited as among the year's Biggest B.O. Bombs, and one that many of our Voting Members (and the entire audience I saw it with at a sub-run multiplex) found absolutely, hilariously over-the-top and inept in every way. Anyone else who finds our mentions of CARTER as a potential contender "indefensible," please also feel free to post your thoughts... |

That would be me, but I specified that I knew SAFE HOUSE wouldn't make it onto the ballot...
At the time it seemed a better idea to choose the movie starring a Razzie nominee instead of a repeat offender who always gets away unharmed.
Not enough people hated it; Miguel is the only one who has mentioned it. That's the point.
You mean waste ballot space, right? Because if it does get nominated, it won't be a waste because it means people wanted it to be nominated.
HeadRAZZ said "maybe" (and just in case Cruise sucks in JACK REACHER). He put ROA because, despite not-so-bad reviews, it was one of the biggest box office flops of the year.
Again: It's not being considered for it's overall quality, just for having an actor with no talent and no eye for choosing scripts.
That's the same rating PLAN 9 has. And if you read the reviews on both movies, you'll notice that most critics called it "so bad it's good", which still means "bad".

WHY not consider A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN??? The movie was a total critical AND commercial dud, with TWO previous Razzie nominees (Kate Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg) at the bottom of their game (esp. Kate, who's long overdue for a "win")...

Should've been Razzed- Kate Hudson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Sean Penn, Gerard Butler, Chelsea Handler, Maggie Grace, Sherri Shepard, Chris Klein, Robert DeNiro, Tim Burton, The Devil Inside

The guy plugging Magic Mike? That's me, but it isn't about the movie. It just sucks that Tatum and Pettyfer can't be nominated for WA and WSA just because the movie overall was good -- there can be bad performances in a good movie, and last year we were told even if it they don't end up on the ballots, we can nominate them by write-in votes. If not, I''d probably say Tatum for The Vow, then (though I haven't seen it).

Here's my view on who deserve to be Worst Actor nominees:
1) Adam Sandler for That's My Boy. Sandler's childish "acting" deserves condemnation, especially in such an appallingly $h!^ movie. 2) Robert Pattinson for Bel Ami. Robert Pattinson was a terrible casting decision for this movie. As usual he gave a wooden performance. I haven't watched The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part II yet. So on principle I can't nominate him for that movie. However it would not surprise me if he gives a Razzie-worthy performance in that movie. 3) Nicolas Cage for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. His performance in that movie deserves a Razzie nod. 4) Oliver Cooper for Project X. As one of the main characters Costa is supposed to be one we can have some sort of sympathy for. He failed to do that. Instead he portrays Costa as someone you would want to punch -- below the belt line. 5) Sam Worthington for Man on a Ledge. His acting should be acknowledged for the next Razzies. He gave a character that I didn't give a $h!^ about. I haven't seen Wrath of the Titans so I'm unable to say anything about it. |

Dun-Ida, I'd say that Oliver Cooper is more suited for Worst Supporting Actor, but he does deserve a Razzie nod for his terrible acting.
