Saturnwatcher, I highly doubt that the allies would have negotiated with Germany, even if Hitler would have been assassinated. I don't believe that. Germany had become impossible once and for all. I also read that Churchill did have his doubts about Stalin. Roosevelt, however, thought that he could co-operate with him.

Germany had always hoped that the Western allies would prefer Germany to the USSR, but they were wrong at that point, and Hitler knew that. In fact, this is one of the reasons why Hitler declared war against America, which was nothing but a welcome invitation to Roosevelt. With that, Hitler delivered the reason for Roosevelt to enter the war, something that Roosevelt desperately needed, because he had promised American voters that he would stay out.

I don't think that assassinating Hitler prior to his rise to power would or COULD have had any more catastrophic results. Germany started WW II under Hitler, and the Holocaust took place under Nazi power. I very much doubt that anything else could have been much worse.

Anyway, I hope this image helps lighten things up a little bit:

Holy Crap! Tom Cruise was nominated for a Golden for this movie! This either means that we are picking on this movie just because it has Tom Cruise in it, or that the Golden Globes are becoming irrelevant and going the way of the Grammys (Mamma Mia for best musical????).

I'm going to lean towards the latter.
Seltzerberg is back?

Have The Golden Globes turned into The Razzies?

But he's up against the likes of Robert Downey Jr. (also for "Tropic Thunder") and Health Ledger's Joker from "The Dark Knight" in that same catagory (Best Movie Actor in a Supporting Role). Chances of Cruise winning: very slim. Chances of Cruise winning our award: very promising.

Oh, please, let him be the winner this time. Please, he deserves no less. He is such an ass, so addicted to success and  he has absolutely no scruples. He also deserves another extra reward for pimping Suri. Just look:

Remember what I said: if you give him Worst Actor over Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, your fan base might turn against you.

I meant you Razzie judges as a group.  If Cruise gets nominated, I'm not expecting him to win it.  You guys already got in trouble with the LA Times, and you guys could get boo'd if he wins.

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: Good news for Cruise, bad news for all you Tommy-Haters here on the Forum: I was preparing this year's RAZZIE® Nominating Ballot, with VALKYRIE listed all over the place, when one of our Lifetime Members shot me an e-mail telling me he'd actually seen it.  His verdict: Hardly an Oscar® contender, but not really deserving of a RAZZIE® either. In fact, he said, "I actually enjoyed much of it." Since this is one of our core members, and someone whose judgment I completely trust, I went throuth the entire ballot deleting VALKYRIE.

So for those of you who were salivating at the prospect of RAZZing Mister Scientology once again, guess you'll have to settle for writing him in...

So it's not THAT bad, but not great either? Oh well. The better the chances for Murphy or Myers to "win".

I was browsing my friend's People magazine (don't judge me), and their critic, Leah Rozen had this to say, "Cruise alternates here between being grim, determined and noble, all apt choices given the circumstances."

We have a fan base? How come no one has ever asked me for an autograph?

The voting membership of the Razzies is rather large, so had Cruise made it on the ballot and won, it would have been because a lot of people viewed him as deserving. Evidently there is already significant doubt as to his worthiness, consequently, he probably won't win this year, nor is it a given that he would have won had he appeared on the ballot. Of course, with the possibility of write-in he still could pull it off, but it's doubtful.

Incidentally, I feel confident that I can speak for the vast majority of the membership, at least in this case, in expressing our complete indifference as to any opinion the L.A. Times may have of us or our choices.

The political situation was complex, and there was considerable disagreement within Roosevelt's circle as to the threat presented by the U.S.S.R; that combined with concerns about the Soviet Union within both the British and French governments might well have made an offer of surrender by Germany at least worthy of consideration in the minds of many. And remember at that point that the horrors of the holocaust were still not well known.  The matter makes for interesting debate, unfortunately beyond the scope of this forum, and ultimately I guess the point is moot.

DANG! You mean you won't even nominate him for Best, uhm, I mean Worst Actor?

RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry: After a berry long weekend of seeing countless TV spots featuring Tommy Boy repeatedly (and robotically) reciting lines like "Hitler is the enemy of all mankind," "We must kill Hitler," and "Operation Valkyrie is in effect," I've slightly changed my mind -- Cruise is back to being listed in Worst Actor, but VALKYRIE is nowhere else on the ballot.

Once the film's released, I leave it up to our Voting Members to decide if they think Sir Scientology is RAZZIE-worthy or not...
